How much alcohol does your DH/DP drink weekly? (Average)

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 20:12

Wanting to know as DH claims his drinking is below average for a man his age (mid 30s)
I disagree
Just a general idea would be nice so I could show him!

I'm not married. My ex-h is functionally teetotal now (as in, he might have a glass to toast a wedding, or with Christmas lunch), previously he drank on a few nights a week. He would have 1 or 2 beers (can) or glasses of wine on maybe 2-3 nights a week, and go out for drinks once a week with work colleagues where he'd probably have around 4 drinks. If we went out together on a weekend he'd have about the same. So probably around 10 cans of beer and 5 glasses of wine in a week.

My dad drinks 3 nights a week. He has around 7-8 pints of guinness on two of those and around 4 or 5 the other one. He never drinks at home or in other situations. So 20 pints a week. Obviously he's much older than your dh.

My brother drinks a glass of wine with dinner around twice a week and goes out drinking (either to meet people in a pub or to another activity that will involve drinking) around once a fortnight. He'll have probably 5 drinks when he's out. He's the only sibling I know about in detail because we currently live together.

happyfeet5 · 28/10/2022 21:10

Hard to measure, only when he’s out except for very special occasions and one offs like parties or BBQs.

I’d say maybe it averages to two or three beers per month?

rainbowandglitter · 28/10/2022 21:10

Dh mostly doesn't drink but will occasionally have a glass of red whilst cooking Sunday lunch.

Meowsaidthecat · 28/10/2022 21:11

Like once a month, usually a couple of beers. Very rarely has spirits maybe once a year on new years!

KohlaParasaurus · 28/10/2022 21:11

A thimble a week, if you average it out over a year😉We both like a glass of beer or a nip of whisky from time to time but can go from week to week without even thinking about it.

Allmarbleslost · 28/10/2022 21:12

Me and dh like a drink at the weekend. He has probably 6 beers on Friday and Saturday.

qpmz · 28/10/2022 21:12

Simonjt · 28/10/2022 21:08

it varies, he is a wine drinker and drinks a bottle a week, some weeks thats one glass of wine a night, others he’ll drink it in one evening.

I drink more than him, I tend to have a beer with dinner, tonight I had three. I drink non-alc

Non Alcoholic beer doesn't count. You are tea total if no booze! I

MissConductUS · 28/10/2022 21:14

Eggygirl · 28/10/2022 20:26

My god, where do all these teetotal people live? This is an anonymous forum, you know, not your GP asking how many units a week you drink

New York. We're both teetotal.

Post cut out, I drink non-alcoholic beer as well as normal.

Chickenwing2 · 28/10/2022 21:15

Both mid 30s.

I will drink a bottle of wine on a friday or Saturday night. DH only drinks when we go out with friends (once or twice a month).

When we go out we will get drunk and ive never counted how many drinks but definitely too many.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 28/10/2022 21:15

Dh is 43. He'll have 1 beer (but quite a strong one). On maybe 3 week nights and then maybe 3 beers and 3 shorts on a Saturday night. Its more than the 14 units I think is recommended for a man which worries me (I don't drink at all) but is less than the 21 units that used to be recommended so he's happy with that!!

bakewellbride · 28/10/2022 21:16

4 beers a week on average (2 per evening)

jellydaydream · 28/10/2022 21:24

Probably about 8 x 330ml bottles most nights. 4-5 pints if we go to the pub. He's stopped drinking wine cos he can do a bottle in 40 minutes and it isn't fun for either of us.

qpmz · 28/10/2022 21:24

How do people know what their husbands drink when they go out? Do they have to fill in a spreadsheet when they get home or something? Or do people prefer to believe they've only had 1 shandy?Grin

Laurdo · 28/10/2022 21:25

We don't drink every week. Maybe once or twice a month if we have something on. Usually just a few gin and tonics if we're out. If we're in the house we'll share a bottle of wine. But we'll easily go weeks and not have a drink. DP is 33.

PinkButtercups · 28/10/2022 21:28

DP 29 has none. If we go out which is not often he might have one beer but even then it's usually just a coke.

I don't drink either. Not had alcohol in about 2 years. We're just not drinkers.

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 21:28

Surprised at how many dh/dps dont drink any spirits?! All seems to be beer or larger/ciders. Or wine

LondonQueen · 28/10/2022 21:30

Pretty much the same as me, a bottle of wine most nights and a bottle of vodka at the weekend.

BigFatLiar · 28/10/2022 21:30

Another with a teetotal husband. He used to drink at the weekend when out three or four pints and occasional whisky at home. Had to give up a few years ago due to illness, its me that drinks now, he's always rhe driver.

Nosleepforthismum · 28/10/2022 21:31

Both of used to be big drinkers in our early 20’s. Early 30’s now and I’ve given up completely because I can’t deal with the hangovers anymore and my DH usually has two or three pints on a Friday with work and maybe a couple of drinks on Saturday. It literally depends what we are doing. If we are going out for a nice lunch he’ll have a couple of drinks. If we have a rare child free night out, he can go a bit mad. As a general rule, both of us really enjoy(ed) drinking but dealing with a toddler hungover is horrendous and makes it not as much fun as it used to!

I do wonder too because dh has no idea how much i drink out. He just knows i get home very jolly

ABJ100 · 28/10/2022 21:33

Hardly ever. That's both of us. I couldn't imagine being with anyone whose idea of relaxing is drinking every weekend, or everyday or even going round to the pub and drinks all the time.

Noideaatall · 28/10/2022 21:34

DP (41) drinks a glass of red wine every night. I don't drink at all (don't like it)

@BigFatLiar

What was the illness?

GarlandsinGreece · 28/10/2022 21:36

Two drinks per evening, usually two single measures of bourbon. Occasionally drinks red wine in winter. I don’t drink at all.
