How much alcohol does your DH/DP drink weekly? (Average)

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 20:12

Wanting to know as DH claims his drinking is below average for a man his age (mid 30s)
I disagree
Just a general idea would be nice so I could show him!

I'm the "DH". Most weeks, I drink about a bottle of wine in total, often over 2-3 nights/meals, sharing a couple of bottles with Mrs UnicornsHaveMums. Quite frequently, I don't drink at all for a week or two. Sometimes I'll drink a little more, maybe 2 bottles in a week, or 3 bottles in exceptional weeks but these are very rare, not more than once or twice a year, if that. I'm in my mid/late 40s, but it's been the same since my mid 30s. I used to drink a fair bit more in my early 30s, regularly drinking about 3 bottles of wine a week, but not since then.

Mammyloveswine · 28/10/2022 20:38

Around one bottle of beer a week...he's not a drinker..

Gardenerboo · 28/10/2022 20:39

DH drinks 1 beer maybe 4 nights a week. I don’t drink so that seems a lot to me. It’s all relative.

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 20:27

Interested in how it became a problem?

You cannot see why drinking 8 cans every night would be a problem? Seriously?

Bestcatmum · 28/10/2022 20:39

I only go out with teetotals. I cant abide men who drink too much.

whirlyhead · 28/10/2022 20:39

Mine is in his early 50s. I would say at least one bottle of vodka a week plus about 4 bottles of wine. If we go out, way more - 3 martinis and a bottle of wine. Irritatingly enough he’s had a full physical and his organs are fine. He does work out a lot. I honestly don’t know how he does it.

TheGirlWhoLived · 28/10/2022 20:39

Oh I drink a bottle of wine most nights, maybe 1 night a week I don’t, or about 5-6 nights a month

Passenger17 · 28/10/2022 20:41

None

I did suspect this . Makes my Dh look like a raving alcoholic 😐🤨

Interesting. I hope you aren't one of those people who can't afford to turn your heating on

Seaweed42 · 28/10/2022 20:42

You are the children's mother. It's your responsibility to protect them from someone who's drinking too much.

How much does yours drink OP?

Cuddlywuddlies · 28/10/2022 20:43

Weekly? Most weeks 0…although last Friday he had 1 and tonight he had 1 as we were out for dinner. He’s early 40’s

Bestcatmum · 28/10/2022 20:43

Eggygirl · 28/10/2022 20:26

My god, where do all these teetotal people live? This is an anonymous forum, you know, not your GP asking how many units a week you drink

Glastonbury. I dont drink because I had a huge problem with alcohol once.

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 28/10/2022 20:43

He usually has a g&t or glass of wine on Friday nights, and then a g&t and we share a bottle of wine on Saturday night.

If we go out he usually has a maximum of 3 beers.

I've seen him drunk once (in 2.5 years) after a works night out - I picked him up and we got home and went to bed. So no embarrassing or disastrous incidents.

My ex is an alcoholic so I was wary of dating someone who drinks every day.

NotYourHolidayDick · 28/10/2022 20:44

FINE.
Here I am.
I drink a bottle of wine a night.
No fucks to give.
I enjoy it.

Applesandcarrots · 28/10/2022 20:44

How much doea he drink?

emptythelitterbox · 28/10/2022 20:46

None.
His father was a miserable drunk so he's never touched it.

Hoolihan · 28/10/2022 20:46

Loads - probably 6-8 pints both Fri & Sat, then 3-4 on Sunday.

CoveredInCobwebs · 28/10/2022 20:48

Late 30s. We each have a couple of cocktails on Friday evening. He’ll have a beer on Saturday night if we don’t have friends over or, if we do, we will all share a bottle or two of wine.

My Dad was a functioning alcoholic throughout my adolescence and so I limit my drinking as a result, DH doesn’t really like drinking without me so…

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 20:50

Ok so im really doubting Dhs drinking is "normal"
Before his new job drinking most nights

After this new job
Half a bottle or nearly all of a bottle of 1litre vodka
7-10 bottles of sol/calsberg/stella
500ml.
Weekly

I think the more important question is.... how many units is your DH drinking a day and week?

Eggygirl · 28/10/2022 20:50

Coyoacan · 28/10/2022 20:41

@Coyoacan not sure who this comment is directed to but either way, what's the relevance? Has anyone stated that we have permanent hypothermia because our OH likes to partake in a pint or two every now and then?

shieldmaiden7 · 28/10/2022 20:51

Exdh drank 4 cans of beer, 2 to 3 bottles of wine and if he finished early enough aka before 9, a glass or two of rum a night. He was in his late 30's but had been like this the whole relationship.

DH would have a cider or 2 a week maybe but we both gave up the booze when I fell pregnant last April.

Dacadactyl · 28/10/2022 20:51

My husband is 39.

He will have about half a bottle of wine on a weekend night. And maybe 2 rum and coke mixer cans.

If the football is on, he can drink quite madly if its a Derby or big match. But then he wouldn't drink the wine and couple of cans on the Fri or Sat night if he knew he was having beer on match day. He very rarely goes out boozing.

He can go without alcohol though and sometimes (not often) does his own detox qbd does like dry January in June or whatever.

Caraoke · 28/10/2022 20:52

3 to 4 fruit ciders 2 nights per week on average, so seven 400ml bottles most weeks probably.

It would be more I'm sure if we had more of a social life, less child responsibilities and if hangovers hadn't become so bad! It's a lot less than we were drinking pre children.
