How much alcohol does your DH/DP drink weekly? (Average)

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 20:12

Wanting to know as DH claims his drinking is below average for a man his age (mid 30s)
I disagree
Just a general idea would be nice so I could show him!

A bottle every day

DoodlePug · 28/10/2022 21:39

Too much for health. But less than he used to.

1litre of gin over about a fortnight (so 20 units a week)
Plus a beer at football and with any meals out, maybe 2 a week.

He only has a night out drinking a few times a year, no idea how much he'll have then.

Scrambledchickens · 28/10/2022 21:39

Loads, wine every night at least half a bottle usually more, also goes to the pub three or so times a week and drinks lager I would imagine 4/5 pints. I barely drink.
We live in Glasgow where many men think this is acceptable.

jgjgjgjgjg · 28/10/2022 21:40

The problem with asking that kind of question on this kind of group is that the people who respond tend to be either those whose husbands are teetotal or nearly teetotal, or those that secretly worry that their husbands also have a problem.

PizzaTonight · 28/10/2022 21:40

DH has 2 or 3 pints on a Saturday when he goes to football.

Might have a couple of beers or glasses of red wine at home during the week.

Every few months he’ll go on a boozy night out with his friends but he’s never properly pissed when he gets home.

He drank much more heavily when we were young and pre-kids. Probably most days after work. But it’s been years since ge drank like that.

Yarrawonga · 28/10/2022 21:41

How do people know what their husbands drink when they go out?

I see his bar bill.

Ledwood85 · 28/10/2022 21:43

5-6 bottles/cans of beer at home on a Friday and Saturday night.

The odd special occasion blowout (party/event) where it will be low double digits.

Holidays hard to quantify, but that's part of being on holiday.

On the other side of the coin - no wine, no spirits, and goes sober in October and dry January every year.

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 28/10/2022 21:43

1 can of beer on a weekend night, 2 when he goes out with friends every couple of weeks.

Oysterbabe · 28/10/2022 21:44

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 21:28

Surprised at how many dh/dps dont drink any spirits?! All seems to be beer or larger/ciders. Or wine

We don't drink spirits often at all. Maybe once a month one of us fancies a gin and tonic and we'll have a couple.

BigFatLiar · 28/10/2022 21:46

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 21:35

@BigFatLiar

What was the illness?

He has long term issues with his kidneys and is on drugs that say no alcohol. Evdn non alcoholic drinks are an issue as they seem to go straight though, he's up and down all night to the loo, we sleep separately now so he doesnt dusturb me. Not drinking alcohol doesn't bother him.

Girasoli · 28/10/2022 21:48

None at home, will have 2 or 3 ciders if he meets up with friends/work mates (usually around once a month)

KillingLoneliness · 28/10/2022 21:48

We are most probably unusual but for both myself and my DH it would be 0, neither of us are big drinkers, literally only have the odd one here and there throughout the year or on a special occasions.
We are in our 30s and neither of us had a nightlife in our younger years or cared for one, we met late teens and had kids young!

Yarrawonga · 28/10/2022 21:48

Surprised at how many dh/dps dont drink any spirits?

My husband doesn’t like spirits. He says they mostly taste like petrol.

The only exception being some obscure French champagne brandy.

Suzi888 · 28/10/2022 21:50

DH rarely drinks since turning 50, gaining too much weight, unfit, tiredness. Missed it at first, but not anymore. He occasionally has five pints or a half bottle wine, but rarely.

WhosafraidofVirginiaWoolf · 28/10/2022 21:50

DH is 49 and I am 52.

We only drink when we are on holiday, so that was June for us and the next trip is in January.

Neither of us are that keen on the taste or the effects. We don't have alcohol in the house.

Nothing competitive about it, just being honest.

Dunnoburt · 28/10/2022 21:51

350ml bottle of vodka every night......

Thatusernamewastaken · 28/10/2022 21:52

It varies, but maybe 1-2 beers, 3 times a week. Sometimes more, sometimes nothing. My wife is pretty much teetotal and hangovers with young children are really no fun, so avoid anything more than that usually.

TinySaltLick · 28/10/2022 21:53

Eggygirl · 28/10/2022 20:26

My god, where do all these teetotal people live? This is an anonymous forum, you know, not your GP asking how many units a week you drink

The ones drinking on a Friday night aren't on mumsnet yet

whirlyhead · 28/10/2022 21:53

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 20:56

What size bote 70cl or 1ltr?
Same with my dh but the snoring is killing me!! 😩

1 litre. On a bad week he can get through 2 bottles. He functions perfectly well though so I don’t know how he does it. Yeah, the snoring is annoying!

DisforDarkChocolate · 28/10/2022 21:54

None, for about 12 years.

I drink so little most months its none for me too.

tinkerbellvspredator · 28/10/2022 21:55

Zero, gave up years ago in late 20s.

BigFatLiar · 28/10/2022 21:56

qpmz · 28/10/2022 21:24

How do people know what their husbands drink when they go out? Do they have to fill in a spreadsheet when they get home or something? Or do people prefer to believe they've only had 1 shandy?Grin

Usually I go with him, we have mostly the same friends, it's how we met all those years ago.

Season0fTheWitch · 28/10/2022 21:56

Either a couple of beers or a glass or two of wine, usually on a friday or saturday evening. Never a habit, just a "might as well" choice. If we go out for dinner and aren't driving he'll have a couple of beers and maybe an old fashioned.

girlfriend44 · 28/10/2022 21:56

Numbat2022 · 28/10/2022 20:24

None, he's been teetotal since his early 20s. I would hate to live with someone who was often drunk.

Me too.

Oh hardly drinks alcohol neither do I you don't need it.

HangingOver · 28/10/2022 21:57

Nothing. He gave up to keep me company because I had a praaaablam.
