How much alcohol does your DH/DP drink weekly? (Average)

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 20:12

Wanting to know as DH claims his drinking is below average for a man his age (mid 30s)
I disagree
Just a general idea would be nice so I could show him!

Maybe 2 or 3 bottles of Coors a week but some weeks he drinks nothing.

Mindymomo · 28/10/2022 20:53

My DH got into habit of a can of beer each night after work, then 2 or 3 times a week we would share a bottle of wine and when we went out for a meal we would have 2 bottles of wine between us. Earlier this year blood tests revealed he was pre diabetic so he cut down to a pint twice a week and a bottle of wine shared between us. He reversed this and blood tests since are ok but latest has revealed liver function isn’t ideal. He’s has cut back more and yesterday GP texted to say liver is a bit better and needs to be checked again in 3 months.

YABU to survey Mumsnet for a view of what is ‘normal’

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 20:50

Ok so im really doubting Dhs drinking is "normal"
Before his new job drinking most nights

After this new job
Half a bottle or nearly all of a bottle of 1litre vodka
7-10 bottles of sol/calsberg/stella
500ml.
Weekly

I am a fan of drink, but yeah that's bit more than I would go for.

romdowa · 28/10/2022 20:55

My dp hasn't had a drink since 2020 and that was 2 bottles of cider 🤣 he's not a big drinker at all

Macbeth8 · 28/10/2022 20:56

whirlyhead · 28/10/2022 20:39

Mine is in his early 50s. I would say at least one bottle of vodka a week plus about 4 bottles of wine. If we go out, way more - 3 martinis and a bottle of wine. Irritatingly enough he’s had a full physical and his organs are fine. He does work out a lot. I honestly don’t know how he does it.

What size bote 70cl or 1ltr?
Same with my dh but the snoring is killing me!! 😩

My partner drinks roughly 4 or 5 beers a night, every night. Often bottles of strong cider, and once or twice a week will follow those beers up with a bottle of wine. Its destroying our family, and he knows, but it seems he thinks its worth it..

escapingthecity · 28/10/2022 20:57

Mine is teetotal.

justiria · 28/10/2022 20:57

3-5 cans each night during the week, 5-10 cans Saturday /Sunday. He doesn't think he has a drinking problem. . I've already told him I'm not visiting him in hospital when his liver starts packing in.

FlowerArranger · 28/10/2022 20:58

Quite apart from the very serious risks to his health..... Imagine if the cost of all that booze were to be invested in an ISA for the children's future.

So a minimum of 20 units of vodka and the same again in beer.
40 - 60 per week is quite a long way over the recommended 14.

whatkatydid2013 · 28/10/2022 21:00

1 or 2 drinks (pint of beer, a glass of wine or a whiskey as the drink) a couple of times a week on average

OP hasn’t mentioned any children.

lljkk · 28/10/2022 21:02

DH has 1 unit every other week. A sparkly beer or a small glass of wine, that kind of thing.

Applesandcarrots · 28/10/2022 21:03

Yup. And even if she did, people always say things like "if you didn't smoke/drink, you could have a Porche right now". Well they don't either😂

kitcat15 · 28/10/2022 21:03

About 2 pints on a Friday and same on a Sunday......he never drinks on a school night

maddiemookins16mum · 28/10/2022 21:04

I’m a recovering alcoholic, 5 years sober now yay. I still buy for DH, but he only drinks Cider. I’d say, a can every month! We still have 8 cans left from the box of 12 we bought in June for his 60th.

We drink too much tea though - 6 cups min a day.

lostinthejungle22 · 28/10/2022 21:04

1-2 drinks once a week if he's out with mates, not every week even. 1-2 drinks a month at home (craft beer or g&t in a tin). Doesn't need to get drunk and doesn't like to be hungover.

Newmumatlast · 28/10/2022 21:06

Goldmember · 28/10/2022 20:23

DH is in his forties and hardly drinks. He sometimes has 1 beer a week in the summer if the weather is nice but is not bothered the rest of the time.
Me, on the other hand has 2 glasses of wine on a Fri and Sat without fail.

This is similar to us. For me its maybe a glass of wine a night or two at the weekend.

antipodeancanary · 28/10/2022 21:06

DH probably has a pint maybe twice a month

StClare101 · 28/10/2022 21:07

Mine has a drink every night, more on weekends. I’m the same.

Cw112 · 28/10/2022 21:07

Sometimes nothing, sometimes a beer or two once a week, maybe 3-4 on a weekend if he feels like it.

introverteccentric · 28/10/2022 21:07

SherlocksDeerstalker · 28/10/2022 20:15

We share a bottle of wine on Friday night usually. Maybe two pints if we go to the pub. A third would be an issue.

An issue for what reason, curious?

Absolutely not normal, outwith NHS guidelines, and unnecessary too.

Simonjt · 28/10/2022 21:08

it varies, he is a wine drinker and drinks a bottle a week, some weeks thats one glass of wine a night, others he’ll drink it in one evening.

I drink more than him, I tend to have a beer with dinner, tonight I had three. I drink non-alc
