Well she's staggered on to PMQs today. Get the popcorn ready.

Her appearance is irrelevant. Not to a lot of people on MN it's not

Well if it doesn't feature here it's irrelevant to this thread.

Challenge / report it where it occurs.

Herr body language, communication and delivery, including her demeanour might be relevant to her performance and credibility (or lack of). Her actual appearance isn't.

Anyone else seen this...Liz Truss' special adviser suspended and faces investigation?
Not sure calling Sajid Javid "Shit" was particularly nice...also before joining Downing Street, Jason Stein used to work as a communications adviser to Prince Andrew.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 19/10/2022 13:55

I think it would be very relevant if she had to be drugged to do her job, the job she wanted and campaigned for for years, not something that's been thrust upon her.
I personally don't think she is drugged I think she is just being herself and is being scapegoated by people who voted for her and her policies.

ilovesooty · 19/10/2022 13:56

Yes, she jabbed her finger repeatedly at the dispatch box. That's the behaviour of a bully.

I've worked for a bully who did the finger jabbing thing. His son is an MP and also does it.

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 19/10/2022 14:00

Be interesting to see fracking vote later. There’s a 3 line Tory whip, no leave allowed.

Boris is in the Dominican Republic on holiday I believe. Wonder if he'll be back for this, and if they'll remove the whip if not?

I thought this was why they all do that tucked-in-thumb hand gesture thing - because their PRs tell them that pointing fingers is way too aggressive. It's not a good look at all.

coffeerevelsrule · 19/10/2022 14:06

I honestly don't know how KS has sat there for the last 2 years with Johnson and now her hurling a load of childish insults, accusations and repetitive soundbites at him. Have they ever answered a single one of his questions? He must have the patience of a saint. I wouldn't blame him if slammed his papers down but I don't think he ever has. On Monday he had to take a tirade of abuse and whataboutery for asking the PM to explain herself after the havoc of the last week or so.

It all makes me wonder if our system actually works at all.

justmeand2DC · 19/10/2022 14:07

I don't usually watch PMQ but thought I'd have it on in the background today. Does anyone know why Said Javid was down for a question but didn't get called? I know the opposition leaders get a chance to speak but who decides which other MPs get picked, is it the speaker?

Yeah, it's the speaker.

sunnydaytoday0 · 19/10/2022 14:08

The correspondent on sky news is saying tory rebels won't vote against the government on fracking this afternoon, so that they'll still have the whip and their letters of no confidence going to Brady will still be valid..

Sam Blewett
Liz Truss has pulled out of a scheduled visit this afternoon.
No 10 has not given a reason for the last-minute cancellation of the trip, during which she was expected to take questions from broadcasters

Has Brady received all the necessary letters? Is she just scared of the press? In Truss Land who knows, every day is an adventure! 😃

Triple lock is now staying, apparently. The right arm doesn't know what the left is doing.

Or to misquote Reagan, the right arm doesn't know what the far right arm is doing.

He withdrew his question apparently on condition that the aide who reported that Liz Truss said that Javid was "shit" was sacked - he has been.

Supposedly his question was about the PMs advisor, he was going to embarrass him and the PM unless he was suspended. Stein was suspended so no question.

Braverman showed very clearly what she thinks with womens safe spaces by voting against buffer zones, exactly at the same time as trying to introduce a new bill that clamps down on legitimate protests.

Indeed, no protests allowed. Unless it's outside an abortion clinic...

Nat6999 · 19/10/2022 14:22

I hope every Tory MP who has put their letter in to the 1922 committee ignores the whip & votes against fracking in the vote today. Labour have definitely got Liz Truss rattled for her to implement a 3 line whip on the vote.

SleeplessInEngland · 19/10/2022 14:25

The confidence motion is pathetic. It's like putting a gun to someone's head and thinking they're your friend because they've complied with you.

They can't ignore the whip if they want to put in their letter.

William Wragg confirms he's sent a letter into Graham Brady - and that he HAS to vote with the government on this afternoon's fracking motion, against his wishes. So that he doesn't lose the whip. And so his letter still stands.

sunnydaytoday0 · 19/10/2022 14:28

I hope every Tory MP who has put their letter in to the 1922 committee ignores the whip & votes against fracking in the vote today.

The problem with that in their minds will be that if they lose the whip then their confidence letters will no longer be valid and they'll be stuck with her as leader, whereas if they use this chance to get rid of her they will still have further chances to vote against fracking, or the next leader might not take the idea forward altogether.

All this started when I suggested that a lot of you wanted Truss to burst into tears. She can go tomorrow as far as I'm concerned. We can have a labour government tomorrow. It wouldn't worry me a jot. I've probably lived through more governments than most of you. I just don't like bullying and nastiness at a personal level.

...apart from you re happy to dish it out.

Alexandra2001 · 19/10/2022 14:35

Sam Coates on Sky was funny, he said "Truss claimed she was a fighter not a quitter..."
Coates then said "but in a week of U-Turns...."

Made me smile.

Maybe not on this thread. But there have been endless attacks on her appearance, suggestions of being on drug etc. I don't like her but it's just not on. In hindsight I should have reported posts.

I don't like those sort of personalised attacks either but they are part of plitical culture in the UK. I well remember in 2007 / 8 / 9 it was speculated that Gordon Brown was on drugs / having a breakdwon, in fact Andrew Marr even asked him straight out in a live interview.

The US media is even worse - see speculation about Biden's mental and physical health, the speculation about Trump's health and mocking his appearance etc

So it's part of the culture and not specific to Truss, or indeed to femal epoliticans I don't think

...until the next statement from Hunt on that particular subject.
