Well I for one am awestruck by her resilience and ability to keep going in the face of all this.

I made a mistake at work a month ago and the shame of it nearly killed me. How the hell is she facing the world and yelling back at it? Why can’t I have such confidence?

"How the hell is she facing the world and yelling back at it?"

The important thing would be would you really want colleagues whose strengths are to brazen it out when they have made a mistake.

Not just say sorry (not sorry) or ruefully refer to necessary changes. Just brazen it out with threats and insults.

myteethwerefine · 19/10/2022 16:20

@MumofHorace can i ask, before you made your mistake did you make the course of action you were about to make clear to your place of work and did those senior to you with years more experience warn you about the consequences of said course of action? And did you then ignore all warnings and press on regardless? Because if not, your anecdote is meaningless in this context. (But then I suspect you know this......)

Shells Braverman has quit!

The phrase "deckchairs on the Titanic" springs to mind

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 19/10/2022 14:00

Be interesting to see fracking vote later. There’s a 3 line Tory whip, no leave allowed.

Boris is in the Dominican Republic on holiday I believe. Wonder if he'll be back for this, and if they'll remove the whip if not?

Shouldn't he be here being an MP? Is there a limit on how much time they can take off to do other things I wonder, I mean he seemed to take the whole summer off.

EdieLedwell · 19/10/2022 16:40

Suella *

ancientgran · 19/10/2022 16:44

Does anyone know if Braverman resigned or was sacked? I can see she's gone but no details.

sunnydaytoday0 · 19/10/2022 16:46

Chris Mason BBC:
My understanding is Suella Braverman's resignation was not over a disagreement about government policy, but instead what was described to me as an honest mistake on the part of the now former home secretary.

Beth Rigby tweeted that she was told shes leaving because of "an honest mistake"

EdieLedwell · 19/10/2022 16:50

Email on a private phone.

Must've been a sensitive one.

the80sweregreat · 19/10/2022 16:50

Liz Truss screwed up the economy and keeps her job, KK and now SB have to go.
Unless there is more to it?

boys3 · 19/10/2022 16:53

Honest mistake?

presumably appointing her as Home Secretary in the first place.

never credited LT with being part of the Guardian reading, tofu-eating wokerati

Purge of the extreme libertarian right seems to be gathering pace.

ancientgran · 19/10/2022 16:56

Our deputy political editor Sam Coates understands that there was an incident involving Ms Braverman sharing secure information that she should not have done on a private phone, breaking the security rules for government. From Sky.

ancientgran · 19/10/2022 16:56

I'm not sure if that means she shouldn't have shared the information or she shouldn't have shared it on her phone.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 19/10/2022 16:57

Beyond a joke

just call a general election!

FFS

RedAppleGirl · 19/10/2022 16:59

What a fiasco, the Tories have lost the plot completely.

sunnydaytoday0 · 19/10/2022 16:59

More chaos from a strong and stable government.

Her resignation letter does stick the boot in at the end (after acknowledging she shared data) by saying she has concerns about the direction of government.
Plus she ends with “Pretending we haven’t made mistakes, carrying on as if everyone can’t see that we have made them, and hoping that things will magically come right is not serious politics. I have made a mistake; I accept responsibility; I resign“ which is rather pointed I think.

Yes the bit about accepting responsibility and resigning as it was the right thing to do was very pointed.

Place your bets!

EdieLedwell · 19/10/2022 17:04

Grant Shapps replacing her

ancientgran · 19/10/2022 17:06

Well Shapps has lots of experience of going out and defending the indefensible.
