Well she's staggered on to PMQs today. Get the popcorn ready.

Honestly can't believe they're keeping the pensions triple lock. I mean I can BELIEVE it obviously- core voter and all that - but how can they do that without raising benefits, or public sector pay? As a group pensioners really aren't the most hard up. Recent reports have shown that food poverty for households with children is double that for households without. And pensioners are getting the winter fuel payments too, right?

This.

Drakeford has mismanaged the NHS in Wales. Yes the truth hurts

Whatever you think of his polices, it's irrelevant to this thread.

Why do people have to change the subject all the time? This thread is about Truss.

If this is all that Tory supporters have - that Drakeford did xyz in Wales - the Tories are truly fucked in England.

coffeerevelsrule · 19/10/2022 13:26

But Drakeford is stymied by Westminster controlled budgets, derxa. One way in which devolution works so well for the Tories.

derxa · 19/10/2022 13:26

All this started when I suggested that a lot of you wanted Truss to burst into tears. She can go tomorrow as far as I'm concerned. We can have a labour government tomorrow. It wouldn't worry me a jot. I've probably lived through more governments than most of you. I just don't like bullying and nastiness at a personal level.

Jknow · 19/10/2022 13:27

I enjoyed KS’s “is that the title or the release date?” question 🤣🤣.

Sad though that she completely dodged the question of the shambles that is carers allowance in the COL crisis, although not in the least bit surprised.

Who's bullying her?

Yes, a powerful point raised by Ed Davey where she responded with a scripted platitude.

Hmmph · 19/10/2022 13:31

The triple lock should be kept. Pensions need to increase so they are there for us when we get to retirement. We'll need the state pension as we only have a meager defined contribution scheme to fall back on if we're lucky.

BUT all benefits need to increase as well, as do public sector salaries. We all need to be able to keep up with inflation and pay to live.

It's not a race to the bottom. The problem isn't pensions going up it's that everything else isn't.

derxa · 19/10/2022 13:31

Who's bullying her?

Maybe not on this thread. But there have been endless attacks on her appearance, suggestions of being on drug etc. I don't like her but it's just not on. In hindsight I should have reported posts.

cherrytreelanecherries · 19/10/2022 12:30

The triple lock thing was quite a clever strategy. SNP bloke was clearly completely unprepared for that.

I still think she should go but credit where it’s due.

I had to stop watching after that as I just find the whole thing so embarrassing - it’s just a game to most of them isn’t it.

Or, she was baited into saying something her chancellor has not yet said.

tigger1001 · 19/10/2022 13:38

coffeerevelsrule · 19/10/2022 12:40

Her blaming KS for not getting things done when he's not actually the PM or in the government was...interesting.

I thought the same.

That speculation was in the mainstream media yesterday, including pro-Tory media like the Telegraph.

ilovesooty · 19/10/2022 13:40

Her appearance is irrelevant. Her total lack of competence, her poor communication, her lack of empathy and her inability to accept accountability matter to me. Anyone who ever thought she was fit for office must have a total lack of judgement
She's already caused a lot of damage to the country and should be sent packing.

If she had a modicum of self awareness she'd resign.

ClaudineClare · 19/10/2022 13:40

Hmmph · 19/10/2022 13:31

Exactly. Having today's pensions keep pace with inflation benefits the pensioners of the future as well as current pensioners. Plus keeping the triple lock gives a good basis for arguing that all benefits need to rise in line with inflation. If the triple lock was abandoned, there would be no hope at all of this happening.

derxa · 19/10/2022 13:42

Her appearance is irrelevant. Not to a lot of people on MN it's not

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 19/10/2022 13:43

So, are any Tory MPs going to resist the Whip and vote against fracking today?

the80sweregreat · 19/10/2022 13:44

To be fair Derxa , she did look really ill last Friday and on Monday in the chambers.
A few people suggested on some treads that she may have been prescribed some kind of tranquilizer. I don't think that is being mean as such. It was only speculation due to how she came across and how she looked.
I hope she is ok, but there is no doubting the stress she must be under.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/10/2022 13:45

ilovesooty · 19/10/2022 12:58

Couldn't care less whether she bursts into tears or not. I want her to resign or be removed.

As for "toughed it out" I'd describe that as a total inability to acknowledge any accountability.

No, not bursting into tears. Of course not. (though I must admit, facing this humiliation would have made me cry!)

I can't help think that a much more humble and considered response would have served her better than just repeatedly screaming about the "energy price cap" (that a sad smoke and mirrors claim that is) and jabbing her finger across the dispatch box.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/10/2022 13:46

Tory MPs with a constituency dead set against fracking must be very concerned and angry today. Which is just how I like my Tory MPs

Sadly I expect they will toe the party line.
If enough didn't it would make Truss politically impotent.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/10/2022 13:52

Yes, I agree. But they will surely be signing their own P45. What a horrible dilemma for them! 😂

Lol that was good...
I sadly think she will survive. She has been better today not confident..I so wish this shitsh*w would stop. n she resigns.. but don't think it will happen.

ShopoholicIn · 19/10/2022 13:52

More* confident

I agree. I'm thinking of the general threads about her. Not the political ones which generally steer away from the more personal attacks.

This is stirring memories for me. I went to the Univ of Glasgow and at that time there was a men's union and a mixed union. I remember watching a debate in the men's union where a woman was making her speech. It was like a bear pit with all sorts of nasty personal remarks being yelled at her. Surely MN is better than that.
