Or maybe Tuesday at the latest? Would she really want to face the absolute public humiliation of PMQs on Wednesday?

Nope, she will need to dragged off, stage left, with a shepards crook.

AliceNutter · 17/10/2022 01:39

I am cringing so hard for Liz Truss.

If I was her and I'd fucked up this badly I would be leaving the country name change the lot 😭

TooBigForMyBoots · 17/10/2022 01:52

Hopefully.

urbanbuddha · 17/10/2022 03:10

I think I read somewhere that the 1922 Committee elect a new executive committee tomorrow and that it's less likely to contain Liz Truss supporters (are there any??) so yes, she might well be gone by Wednesday. If not she might try to stagger on until October 31st. But she's finished - it's just a matter of when.

NOTANUM · 17/10/2022 03:23

The pound trended higher in Asia this morning to reflect the u-turn on Friday. The next big test is 8am and the start of gilt trading. If that goes okay, she might whimper on a bit longer.
If it doesn’t, she’ll be gone by tonight.

user53852098 · 17/10/2022 03:46

I doubt it, she will go on for a little while longer

Anon778833 · 17/10/2022 04:12

The UK has become the biggest joke, ever.

lannistunut · 17/10/2022 04:49

I can't process what Truss has done, it's dreadful she did all this with no mandate.

If she had had the OBR report in advance, she wouldn't have done it because it would have been obvious what the impact would be. It's the arrogance/ignorance of thinking she can invent a new economic reality.

Nat6999 · 17/10/2022 04:56

I wish, she really only has two choices, resign or give a big fuck you & call a general election.

NoDairyNoProblem · 17/10/2022 05:18

Today… midweek or indeed next week - she will continue to wreak havoc until she goes and we will continue to be the laughing stock of the world stage.
Her departure can’t come soon enough. We need a General Election.

I think we’ve been so since Brexit and it’s getting progressively worse. Maybe this will be enough to stop the infighting in the Tory party when nothing else has

MayThe4th · 17/10/2022 05:26

No.

Faultymain5 · 17/10/2022 05:48

MayThe4th · 17/10/2022 05:26

No.

Unfortunately I agree.

DowningStreetParty · 17/10/2022 05:55

Please god let that happen before she ruins our economic future any further

HRTQueen · 17/10/2022 06:16

No I think it will be a few more days

gives time for others organise themselves

she couldn’t have looked more pleased with herself during KK budget speech all this serves her right her arrogance is astounding she doesn’t deserve to be an MP never mind the PM

Flapjacker48 · 17/10/2022 06:20

Truss is an airhead.

Cornettoninja · 17/10/2022 06:30

doubt it, she’s shameless. Seems to be the current Tory fad.

she’s effectively making sure the tories aren’t going to sniff a majority for a generation. Not just my option but that of members of her own party.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 17/10/2022 06:31

Is it right that the 1922 committee can't do anything for a year? What would be the mechanism to remove her?

That press conference on Friday was horrific.

HettySunshine · 17/10/2022 06:35

She looks like her own Spitting Image puppet.

Hopefully, she'll be gone by the end of the week and we'll have a general election in the first half of next year and then this shot show of a party will be out.

And an even worse party will be in with even worse financial management and wokeness. I think you have this incredible naivete that just by putting another lot in things will get better.

mrsjg · 17/10/2022 06:42

Not today. Will anyone else want this poisoned chalice?

We need a GE now instead of a new Tory leader.

Currently their rules are they can't get rid of her for a year. But if they had a majority of MPs who wanted to vote her out, they'd also have enough MPs to vote to just change that rule. It's what they apparently threatened to do if Theresa May didn't resign - she won her vote of no confidence so theoretically couldn't be voted out for 6 months, but a few months later there were enough MPs against her that they'd have voted to change the 6 month rule. I imagine they'd have done it if Johnson hadn't resigned as well, because he was also less than 6 months after winning a vote of no confidence.

Basically, if they want her out, they'll find a way even if they have to change the rules.

Time for electoral reform and proportional representation!

CornishTin · 17/10/2022 06:44

I think she will be like Trump and refuse to leave.

I agree..FPTP no longer works.

I cannot get my head around the shitshow that is politics at the moment.
