I don't know the word but the power of certain minds? Is it real?

3 years ago I had a week's horrible unexpected hospital stay. I swelled up so much I took my engagement ring off (not my wedding ring).

When I came home I put it somewhere "safe" as I was still bloated and since then I haven't found it. I'm almost certain it was in the kitchen but to this day I haven't found it.

It's a beautiful ring, not massively expensive (cost £375 18 years ago). It was designed based on Monica's ring from Friends but opposite settings - emerald cut sapphire, with a small diamond either side on a white gold plain band.

Can anyone help me find it please? 🙈 I'm not spiritual but willing to try this ridiculous plea to being my lovely eing back to me.

Dressing gown pocket?

LadyEloise1 · 14/10/2022 08:28

Ask St. Anthony. When it's found put a £10 in the St Anthony donation "box" near his statue in a Catholic church.
If there is no St. Anthony donation "box" give the £10 to a charity.

On top of the cupboard not in it 😁

LoisLane66 · 14/10/2022 10:08

Years ago I couldn't find my spare set of keys and worried about changing the locks.
I had bought a key safe but stupidly never had it installed. Found in an old Ted Baker purse I haven't used in years and was selling on eBay. Nowadays, if I put stuff away, I take a photo of the item in the place and archive it.

Years ago I lost my engagement ring. I was convinced that when I'd put some clothes away, it had slipped off my finger but I had everything out of the cupboard and couldn't find it. A couple of years later we decorated the bedroom and there was my ring tucked between the carpet and the skirting board. It had fallen down the back of the old cupboard and out of the bottom. Check the floor 😀

Maybe St Jude (hopeless cases) rather than St Anthony x

MrsPetty · 14/10/2022 15:56

I’m with St Anthony too. An earnest prayer ‘St Anthony seek, St Anthony find, St Anthony bring this to my mind’. I recently introduced my DD12 to this prayer - she’d dropped her new LOL doll in the dark and was in bits. She said the prayer with her eyes shut, and promised him 20 quid - he likes money - she retraced her footsteps again and found it. She was amazed. She put the twenty quid in the box in the local church 😂

Pray to St Anthony.

Yes St Anthony, usually helps me find stuff.

LetsPlayShadowlands · 14/10/2022 22:35

£10?! I'd come and search her house for her if she would give me a tenner for it!

AutumnCrows · 15/10/2022 12:38

I prayed to St Anthony, as instructed on this thread, a couple of days ago to find my mislaid birth certificate. It still hasn't turned up.

To be fair, I haven't actually looked for it yet.

JacquelineCarlyle · 15/10/2022 13:24

I'd pray to St Anthony too - things then usually turn up (& it can't actually hurt, so no harm in trying!)

PMSL - I like that @CrapBucket !!! 😂

Ah here - you have to meet him halfway by actually trying to find things. He's not a Lost & Found desk and is rummaging in the back for something 😂

EvilRingahBitch · 15/10/2022 14:57

This is where St Anthony differs from the Boggarts. If you ask the Boggarts to return the thing they've taken you have to then stop looking.

I lost a watch when haymaking. Nephew couldn't find it with his metal detector
In the same field 21 years later I found the watch while bale carting - saw the strap buckle glinting. How flukey is that?
Watch doesn't work and is very rusty though.

ChineAndWheeseParty · 15/10/2022 17:40

A family member lost a very precious ring belonging to a deceased member of their family. A few years later, inexplicably, there it was just in the middle of their stairs to their upper floor.

WendyMAD · 15/10/2022 18:54

My great-aunt hid a ring for fear of burglars before going on holiday and never found it again. Years later when clearing her house I found it in a disused teapot in a cupboard full of disused teapots.

They do say you'll often find something if you look for something else, or buy a replacement. I really don't know if this is superstition or psychology, but I lost something several years ago, finally bought a replacement a few weeks ago – and then found the lost thing the same day, while looking for something else.

piesforever · 16/10/2022 19:41

What if you're a different religion, does the mystery man come and help you find stuff??

GlomOfNit · 16/10/2022 19:51

I think it's very important to continue to search, OP, at the same time you're petitioning the Little Folk or St Anthony to bring it back. The Little People reward assiduous searching, I feel sure. Wink There's a thing called Regression to the Mean, but dammit, I too am lacking my engagement ring and I think I'll ask the Little Folk to help me tomorrow.

In my case, I feel very uneasy about it. I don't normally wear it and it's usually buried in a very hard-to-find place, in case of burglary. It's an antique diamond solitaire and one of the claws seemed slightly wonky so I was always concerned it might let the stone out, and I do lots of work with my hands so used to be forever taking it on and off. When I had my babies I stopped wearing it and hid it away, and that was 14 years ago!

But for some reason I got it out a few months ago, admired it and determined to wear it more often. I wore it, remembered about the awry claw and popped it on a ring tree to take to a local jewellers later. Then I forgot to. A few weeks later it wasn't there. But because I seldom wear it, I don't know when it vanished. In that time we had a guy in to service an issue with the boiler/tank and I think he did need to be in the bedroom at one point. Confused And also a friend of DS's who used to help himself to DS's lego. I'm almost certain he's not capable of lifting something like that, but he's a bit of an unknown quantity morally. But I have absolutely NO reason to assume it was either DS's mate or the plumber and feel horrible even thinking it. But I've looked and looked. It's not in any of the safe hidey places I'd use for jewellery. It's not down the back of the chest of drawers. We do have an extremely messy house and the bedroom's worst of all, so I'm not discounting that it's in some dusty corner, but what I can't imagine is HOW it levitated off the ring holder and onto the floor/wherever.

I think I'd prefer to believe that the elves took it than the plumber, so I think I'm going to ask them to return it tomorrow. Grin

GlomOfNit · 16/10/2022 19:54

Just remembered a hopeful/amusing Lost Ring story - a friend was cooking and took her engagement ring off in the kitchen and then it was just gone. Eventually, she got a replacement.

Two years later, and by then married, she opened a cookery book from her kitchen bookshelf and there it was, acting as a bumpy bookmark at the last recipe in that book she'd cooked, two years previously!

Have you had all the things out that can be pulled out, ie washing machine, fridge etc pulled fully out? Not relevant if it’s all fitted it but worth a try if they are moveable.

Haha! You say that but several years ago I lost a metal badge (Girlguiding one - I'm a leader). Convinced it must have fallen off at an event I'd gone to that day but it was never found. 3 years later our built-in dishwasher started leaking. I pulled off the kickboards to dry underneath and there was my badge. How did it fall off my top onto a stone floor and fit through a tiny hole at the top of the kickboard without me noticing?

Weird!

First thing i do my children also.

This is sooooo strange, but after reading this thread I was talking to my 11yo DD about the St Anthony thing. She has lost her mobile phone and despite an extensive search, we’ve not been able to find it. I told her how to ask St Anthony to look for it and she did it yesterday. I have also lost a (v.expensive!!) necklace and earrings and have also searched high and low to no avail… until I found them in a cosmetic bag under the sink in my bathroom today!!!!!! They have honestly been lost for so many months that I had given up looking and thought I’d never see them again! I’m not religious or a believer of woo, but what a coincidence!! The mobile is still lost unfortunately, but I have asked him for help this time, in the hope that it works for her, because her request worked for me. Worth a try I guess?!
