Can this be true?

I don't know the word but the power of certain minds? Is it real?

3 years ago I had a week's horrible unexpected hospital stay. I swelled up so much I took my engagement ring off (not my wedding ring).

When I came home I put it somewhere "safe" as I was still bloated and since then I haven't found it. I'm almost certain it was in the kitchen but to this day I haven't found it.

It's a beautiful ring, not massively expensive (cost £375 18 years ago). It was designed based on Monica's ring from Friends but opposite settings - emerald cut sapphire, with a small diamond either side on a white gold plain band.

Can anyone help me find it please? 🙈 I'm not spiritual but willing to try this ridiculous plea to being my lovely eing back to me.

I'm such a twat. When I lose things I pray out loud 3 times to St Christopher. Reading this thread I discover it should be St Anthony!!!

However I recommend giving St Christopher a try as he is always very helpful. Maybe as he gets less requests than Anthony 🤣

Its inside your "Friends" DVD case. You knew that you would remember coz it's based on Monica's ring.

I hierarchy of saints to help you..

"Hello this is the Saint help line. If you're looking for something that is lost, press 1 for St. Anthony. When he goes on a break or his line is busy, St. Christopher steps in.
Press 2 for St. Patrick - he is always getting rid of things...like snakes out of Ireland, but get's particularly busy in March
Press 3 for St. Stephen - he likes a good bank holiday the day after Christmas Day
Press 4 for St Jude - he likes lost causes
Or stay on the line and God or one of the holy Trinity will be with you shortly!"

Sorry @DNo I do hope you find your ring.

I would be thinking that you may have put it up high, if you stack mugs or cups and you may have put it in one on the bottom of the stack?
If you have the little containers that you can put dried food like pasta in for example or loose rice, could you have hidden it in one of them?
If you had an old medicine (as in tablets) bottle from the pharmacy, the ones that the pharmacist would attach the dispensing sticker to, could you have put it in that?
If you have a cutlery tray in the cutlery drawer, is it under the tray (most people wouldn't take that out of the drawer).

Are you sure it's in the kitchen and not in your bedside table?

Could it be somewhere safe say in your bathroom? Have you looked in other rooms or have you mainly concentrated on the kitchen?

Oh you are all so lovely!

So far today I have looked:
On top of my kitchen units got all cups out and looked inside each one
In my sewing box
In my two dressing gowns as well as ny husband's one
In every egg cup (I keep finding them in different cupboards!)
Got my built in cutlery drawer out (hideously filthy)
All wash bags
My little travel suitcase I take with me for hospital visits
My travel document folder thing
My shoes that I haven't worn for ages in the bottom of my bed
My bookcase

Nothing. Apart from realising my house needs a good deep clean and wondering whether to claim on my house insurance.

Thank you all so much though, been really nice to read through all of these following what was in effect, a slightly drunken post last night. 😂 I promise to come back if I ever find it and tell you where it was!

I was also thinking behind bookcase - nod to @shrunkenhead but actually behind some seven inch singles. You got any vinyl? Good luck! Ring, get working too and find your owner!

I’ve not RTFT, but my two suggestions would be - the washing machine in the rubber seal bit, and if you have a jar of jewellery cleaner. These clearly aren’t based on you putting it ‘somewhere safe’, but on where we’ve found missing jewellery before.

I’d also suggest replacing it - my Mum did this, claimed on insurance, and then promptly found the original (in the jewellery cleaner!).

Sorry I haven't read the full thread, but could you have set it on your toilet cistern and it fell down the back? You could lift the lid as it may be caught behind that.

The seal around washing machine drum? Under microwave or other kitchen item that has slight gap on work surface? The 'kitchen dump' drawer? And something is telling me to tell you to look in a filing cabinet? Do you even have one?!! 😂

Ohh OP I hope you find it. Something similar happened with my engagement ring but weirdly I walked in to my bedroom months later and found it in the middle of the floor. So strange! Underwear drawers (at the very back) bedside cabinets, wherever your husband puts stuff "safely" (mine once moved my ring without telling me which caused a mad panic).

Report
FirewomanSam · 12/10/2022 16:57

Ok, let’s try a different approach.

With something as important as an engagement ring, you would normally put it in the same place every time, or you would put it somewhere very obvious. When things go missing, though, or aren’t where they should be, I usually find that it’s because something unusual has happened to disrupt my flow or mess with my normal routine.

So… can you remember any unexpected interruptions that might have happened in the last few weeks? Maybe the doorbell rang while you were moving it and you popped it down somewhere, like in the hallway, and thought ‘I’ll come back for that in a second’. Or have you been in any drawers or cupboards that you don’t normally open? Maybe you were clearing out a drawer and found a box and thought ‘that’s a great place for my ring’ and then immediately forgot because it’s not a drawer you normally open?

Hope you get the gist of what I mean! If you’re sure you’ve searched all the obvious places then you need to think of reasons why you might have put it somewhere much less obvious. There’s bound to be some sort of logic to it, something that will make you go ‘oh of COURSE!’ when you find it.

Ask others in your household to have a think too, in case one of them found the ring and thought ‘I’ll put this somewhere safer’ and then totally forgot doing it! My husband and I have a strict rule that we NEVER move anything remotely important belonging to each other unless we either physically hand it back to the other person or put it somewhere VERY obvious!
