I don't know the word but the power of certain minds? Is it real?

3 years ago I had a week's horrible unexpected hospital stay. I swelled up so much I took my engagement ring off (not my wedding ring).

When I came home I put it somewhere "safe" as I was still bloated and since then I haven't found it. I'm almost certain it was in the kitchen but to this day I haven't found it.

It's a beautiful ring, not massively expensive (cost £375 18 years ago). It was designed based on Monica's ring from Friends but opposite settings - emerald cut sapphire, with a small diamond either side on a white gold plain band.

Can anyone help me find it please? 🙈 I'm not spiritual but willing to try this ridiculous plea to being my lovely eing back to me.

It's in your bedding somewhere? Inside the duvet? Fallen in between your bed/ headboard/ wall? Where did you unpack your hospital bag?

DotBall · 12/10/2022 19:31

It’s the sort of thing I put in my tablets bag when in hospital. Perhaps somewhere like this or a bog bag (toiletries bag)?

ToffeeNotCoffee · 12/10/2022 20:34

I was going to say is it in with the prescriptions etc that you might have come from hospital with ? In the bottom of an existing pill bottle ? In the family medicine cabinet ? In your 'every day' toiletries/hair brush etc bag/box/shelf.

In the bag that other prescriptions have come from at the Chemist ? Have you got a bag of bags i.e. supermarket carrier bags in one larger carrier bag. Could it be there ?

Jewellery box ? Does your husband have a jewellery box or just a box of useful or precious things ?

Pen pot ?

Does your husband have a tool box ? Spares box ? Could it have got mistaken for a washer ? (no offence)

MaMisled · 12/10/2022 20:39

I'm going to say behind a toilet because 3 years after I lost a precious piece of jewellery, I found it behind mine!

Ok, let’s try a different approach.

With something as important as an engagement ring, you would normally put it in the same place every time, or you would put it somewhere very obvious. When things go missing, though, or aren’t where they should be, I usually find that it’s because something unusual has happened to disrupt my flow or mess with my normal routine.

So… can you remember any unexpected interruptions that might have happened in the last few weeks? Maybe the doorbell rang while you were moving it and you popped it down somewhere, like in the hallway, and thought ‘I’ll come back for that in a second’. Or have you been in any drawers or cupboards that you don’t normally open? Maybe you were clearing out a drawer and found a box and thought ‘that’s a great place for my ring’ and then immediately forgot because it’s not a drawer you normally open?

Hope you get the gist of what I mean! If you’re sure you’ve searched all the obvious places then you need to think of reasons why you might have put it somewhere much less obvious. There’s bound to be some sort of logic to it, something that will make you go ‘oh of COURSE!’ when you find it.

Ask others in your household to have a think too, in case one of them found the ring and thought ‘I’ll put this somewhere safer’ and then totally forgot doing it! My husband and I have a strict rule that we NEVER move anything remotely important belonging to each other unless we either physically hand it back to the other person or put it somewhere VERY obvious!

This is the problem. I have a specific place to put my jewelry. It's hidden, in the kitchen and I can vaguely remember putting it there in front of the box as I didn't plan on being without it for a long time. I can only assume (again very vaguely) that I thought it may fall into the bin below if I opened the cupboard it was in and I moved it somewhere "safer". About a month later I went to put it back on and it wasn't there.

This was November 2019 so it's been a while waiting for it to turn up.

Check your hoover bag……..

SallyWD · 12/10/2022 21:58

I've lost my wedding ring twice and my engagement ring. Both showed up after many months. My wedding ring showed up after a year! My engagement ring was under the dishwasher. Both times my wedding ring was in a clothes drawer. The first time it was in my son's pants drawer! I assume it just fell off my finger (I'd lost weight). The second time it was in my jeans drawer. I think I put it in my jeans pocket, then put the jeans back in the drawer and it fell out.

BobBobBobbing · 12/10/2022 21:59

DH's wedding ring was found at the bottom of the chest freezer- he'd been getting stuff out and it had slipped off his finger.

PickAnyName · 12/10/2022 22:06

Try the freezer - one of my parents was always leaving their specs in there.
Check places like where you keep postage stamps, toothpaste, toothbrushes, any medication/supplements you take, under pillows, in the washing/ironing pile, in food canisters (biscuits, coffee, flour etc), by the telephone (mobile or landline), where keys are kept, jewellery box - perhaps DH has seen it and moved it?

FirewomanSam · 12/10/2022 23:04

Doh, sorry OP, I totally misread the post as three WEEKS ago, not years. That is a long time to wait! It might turn up if you ever move house?! I lost an earring of my mum’s and I found it the day we moved, between the carpet and skirting board behind some furniture. I really hope you find it one day!

DorritLittle · 12/10/2022 23:09

So weird, I read it as three weeks too.

I hope you find it OP!

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 12/10/2022 23:10

I have this same problem. Lost my engagement ring and wedding ring more than a year ago. I took them off which was so rare and so to keep them safe attached them to some keys...... Never saw the keys or the rings again since that day! Baffled. Annoyed. Frustrated. Also have insurance cover but not sure if to claim or not.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 12/10/2022 23:35

Ohhh the dreaded ‘safe place’, otherwise known as the vortex to another dimension. Why yes, I currently have some things stored there, why do you ask?

If this were me, I’d start looking for something else that you’ve lost. That’s usually when I find the other things that were put somewhere safe.

Lesserspotteddogfish · 13/10/2022 00:03

I think rubbish tips must have quite a few rings hidden in them.

I found mine after 4 years and a house move. It was in an antique cupboard I'd looked in several times, but it had lodged behind a vertical piece of wood at the front.. so when you opened it, it looked empty. One day I opened the cupboard to put something in and felt about and then my hand lighted on it. I can't tell you how amazing that felt. Keep looking!

BMW6 · 13/10/2022 14:24

Is it on your finger? 😉

Bekstar · 13/10/2022 18:26

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news as I can't say it's definitely retrievable However I am getting a vision of a shelf edge next to a small container and it being on the very edge when someone possibly a man who wears his watch on right arm reached up for something and the ring fell into a void below it's hard to see if this is void is an open container or it's an appliance where it could have fallen behind. However it's a silvery or shimmery white colour, I'm only able to picture a very small part of it. But get the feeling it didn't make a noise as it landed so may have landed in a rubbish bag or even perhaps caught on the rear coils of an appliance. Hopefully the latter. I do also believe it may have been moved once from its original place before it fell perhaps in the same room or a adjoining room, not sure whether that helps you any. Hope you find it soon. But be aware on a spiritual level most physics wouldn't get exact image locations just flashes of what could have happened. Hence the often hazy descriptions.

Beanus · 13/10/2022 18:33

My mum found her engagement ring inside the oven at the very back - she didn't clean the oven very often so ''twas there quite the while..good luck xx

Do you still have the clothes or bags you used for hospital stay ? Check all pockets. My DH found his watch in the inside zip compartment of a rucksack 3 years after moving house.

My mum found an amber necklace in the zip expander bit of her suitcase 2 years after the holiday she had worn it on.

MissBattleaxe · 13/10/2022 18:37

Another here saying pray to St Anthony. Patron saint of lost things. You don't have to be religious but it works every time

Joe9090 · 13/10/2022 19:09

I keep wanting to tell you it's in the tea pot but I have no clue why

iolaus · 13/10/2022 19:21

Did you definitely bring it back from the hospital?

It may be worth contacting them to see if it was left (either on the ward - in which case they'd have locked it in the drugs cupboard when they found it waiting for someone to ring) or the laundry has stupid amounts of lost jewellery as it gets tangled up and the bed stripped so they don't know what ward (or even which hospital) it came from

1000N · 13/10/2022 19:29

Underwear drawer?

Thefsm · 13/10/2022 19:43

My mother in law found hers two years after losing it in a sugar bowl from a fancy set she only uses rarely. It had got put in when it was down being washed and stored then shoved up on the highest shelf out of sight.
