Another woman wearing DH’s shirt

Old friend of DH and his partner have been staying with us. She has done some washing and included my DH shirt in it, then has worn it because she liked it. I think this crosses boundaries and it made me uncomfortable, but AIBU?

yabu - it’s not big deal
yanbu - it’s not on

Sounds like she’s trying to mark some territory somehow.

How long have you been together?

You say you’re not really friends with her, did he know her before you?

Have they ever had a thing? Could they still be having a thing?

hidadsoup · 09/10/2022 21:08

Thank you all for your replies! So glad I wasn’t overreacting.

I don’t think she had any malicious intentions but it does feel like an ignorant thing to do. DH just told me she just really liked the style and even offered to buy it from him, but he said he would never sell it as it was the shirt he wore when DS was born 🥲 ahh bless

I'd see that as the human equivalent of a dog pissing on a lamp post 😬

Herejustforthisone · 09/10/2022 21:09

Ah, maybe she’s just not got a scooby about what is and isn’t appropriate behaviour when a guest in someone else’s home, then. 🤷‍♀️

J0y · 09/10/2022 21:10

It's a bit of forced intimacy there

hidadsoup · 09/10/2022 21:10

@PinkButtercups that is brilliant 😂 imagining that has given me a good giggle thank you!

That's extremely odd. I really wonder how other people live. I just can't imagine a scenario in which I or any of my friends would do this.

MummyJasmin · 09/10/2022 21:12

Very weird!

Prettydress · 09/10/2022 21:12

That would really unsettle me. It's really not normal at all. Definitely crosses an intimacy boundary.

😂😂😂😂😂

Doggydarling · 09/10/2022 21:14

She fancies your husband, I've no doubt about it.

DwightShrutesgirlfriend · 09/10/2022 21:15

What are you going to doing if she takes a liking to your side of the bed?!

GG1986 · 09/10/2022 21:15

Yeah this is pretty weird. How would your husband feel if you wore one of his friends shirts?

HangOnToYourself · 09/10/2022 21:15

Yanbu, wearing your partners clothes is a very intimate, couply thing to do. It is definitely over-familiar at best

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 09/10/2022 21:16

I have to (regrettably) agree with a few others.

It's either ...

An affair, and she is seeing what she can get away with/taunting/teasing.

OR

She fancies him.

99% certainty it's one of those two. ^

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 09/10/2022 21:17

@hidadsoup Get this woman OUT of your house NOWWWWWWWW!

dawngreen · 09/10/2022 21:18

He should burn it in front of her in the garden. I would insist on it been taken off her.

Candleabra · 09/10/2022 21:18

Very weird.
Hiding in plain sight (affair)
or has a thing for your husband

SarahAndQuack · 09/10/2022 21:19

WTF? That's so weird. I thought, clicking on this thread, it was going to be some situation where the poor woman got soaked/spilt something down her and your DH gave her a spare top. I cannot imagine picking stuff I fancied out of someone else's wash basket!

PinkButtercups · 09/10/2022 21:19

Glad it made you giggle! 🤣.

Marcipex · 09/10/2022 21:19

She fancies him.

Solonge · 09/10/2022 21:20

I would do the next load of washing....and put her husbands pants on over your trousers and say you like them so thought you would put them on......should be fun to see the reaction.

Tonkerbea · 09/10/2022 21:21

How do you know shirt-stealer?

InsertPunHere · 09/10/2022 21:21

That is very, very weird. You don't just appropriate your host's clothing, FFS. Did she even ask? It's just so not OK.

MarshaMelrose · 09/10/2022 21:22

hidadsoup · 09/10/2022 20:39

@JennyForeigner 😂😂

@Riverlee yes that’s exactly it, the implied intimacy! I thought surely there’s some unwritten rule that you don’t wear another woman’s husbands clothes? Especially if you aren’t really friends with the wife

Oh yeah. That well known, oft-repeated rule. 😂😂😂
