I know I aibu to post here but I’ve accidentally fed my myself and my child undercooked chicken, oven wasn’t up as high as I thought and chips were done so I thought ok. Definitely raw. Am so anxious.

likelihood of illness? What do I do? Is there anything that can be done? Google says don’t make yourself sick.

Depends how under done? Was it completely raw or just a tad undercooked

Doingprettywellthanks · 25/09/2022 14:54

How long ago?

and if “definitely” undercooked… why did you eat it? How much?

Doingprettywellthanks · 25/09/2022 14:55

And how old is your child?

food poisoning from “raw” chicken is dangerous and bloody awful. If not a hint within 4 hours, you can relax quite a bit. Fully relax after 12 hours.

Yerroblemom1923 · 25/09/2022 14:57

How did you know? Was it pink? If so, why did you eat it?

BigChesterDraws · 25/09/2022 15:10

How do you accidentally feed someone undercooked chicken? If you knew it was undercooked, it wasn’t an accident.

Unanananana · 25/09/2022 15:13

How much of it did you all eat?
Its pretty obvious when chicken is undercooked so why would you serve and eat it?

Hotandbothereds · 25/09/2022 15:15

Didn’t you notice as soon as you cut into it if it was raw? if so why did you eat it?

Why/how have you only just realised?

JaneJeffer · 25/09/2022 15:16

You would have noticed if it wasn't cooked.

SpinCityBlue · 25/09/2022 15:17

Why did you eat it??

NoSquirrels · 25/09/2022 15:18

I think it’s unlikely that you’d have knowingly eaten enough of undercooked chicken to get ill. So don’t worry.

Either it would have been obvious and tasted horrid, so you wouldn’t have eaten much, or it tasted fine in which case the high likelihood was it was actually cooked through.

HamiltonFan1 · 25/09/2022 15:19

Very likely to make you Ill

Good luck op, make sure you've got a lot of toilet roll in

Keyansier · 25/09/2022 15:20

How can you notice you are eating "definitely raw" chicken and continue eating it after the first noticeable bite?

ManateeFair · 25/09/2022 15:21

Sorry, but this isn’t necessarily the case. Campylobacter, for example, has an incubation period of two to five days.

However: there is absolutely no guarantee that you will be unwell, OP! Eating undercooked chicken might make you ill but in most cases it doesn’t. If it helps, I ate two entirely raw breaded chicken goujons once (long story…) and had zero ill effects whatsoever. You are more likely to be fine than you are to be ill.

Do not try to make you or your child sick; it’s a really bad idea.

WeepingSomnambulist · 25/09/2022 15:23

If it was raw then it would have been pink. Why did you eat it? How much did you eat?

Surely you had seen it wasnt cooked and would have eaten it or would have stopped after one bite?

Doingprettywellthanks · 25/09/2022 15:23

Most people who become ill with campylobacteriosis get diarrhea (loose stool/poop) which may be bloody, cramping, abdominal pain, and fever within two to five days after exposure to the bacteria.

OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:23

Child is 4.

i wasn’t paying attention. It was a southern fried chicken breast. Cut it up into bits and started shovelling it in whilst reading something with ketchup. Went to cut the next half up and saw it was raw.

child too young to notice.

it was obviously an accident, who eats raw chicken on purpose?!

When you say raw…. Describe what you saw?

Isaidnoalready · 25/09/2022 15:26

So a chicken nugget type thing? Or real chicken?

NoSquirrels · 25/09/2022 15:26

Are you saying you ate it when you say you ‘shovelled it in’? Or just your DC? If it didn’t taste raw, and it was a processed chicken product, it is possible for them to look a bit pink but actually be cooked through, depending on whether it’s chopped & reformed meat (can look pink but be fine) or pure breast/fillet (bring raw will be more obvious).

Was it cold inside?

OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:26

Raw, pink, undercooked chicken. Like it was raw. Properly raw. Honestly I could puke just thinking about it. Oven obviously wasn’t up high enough.

OP posts:
OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:28

It was covered in ketchup and not piping hot. Should have been my first clue but I cut it up in preparation to eat it so didn’t notice. It was not cooked. I promise you it wasn’t and I am so anxious about it I feel as sick as a dog.

OP posts:
SpinCityBlue · 25/09/2022 15:28

I don't think I'm showing off or being arsey to say that I'd notice chicken is raw when I cut it up because I'd be looking at it.

And then if for some reason I did eat any, it would taste wrong.

What make was it? Normally they're those spongiform things that you're really just heating up, not actually cooking from raw.

Anyway yes, you could possibly get a bit ill now, unfortunately. Which is a bummer.

OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:28

Yes a chicken nugget thing. Processed shit that I’ll never eat again, I am scarred for life.

OP posts:
OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:29

It was breaded and I didn’t really look. Honestly I have terrible eating habits and really wasn’t paying attention. This isn’t my concern. I will never do it again. My concern is wtf do I do.
