I know I aibu to post here but I’ve accidentally fed my myself and my child undercooked chicken, oven wasn’t up as high as I thought and chips were done so I thought ok. Definitely raw. Am so anxious.

likelihood of illness? What do I do? Is there anything that can be done? Google says don’t make yourself sick.

So this looks like a typical clickbaity thread where OP posts in panic, gets a ton of advice and reactions and then decides to never come back.

My husband ate two raw breaded chicken breasts that were in the fridge as he thought they were pre cooked ! He asked me to get up with him in the night if he was sick . Nothing happened . There is hope

Harls1969 · 26/09/2022 18:40

It's more than likely that you'll be fine. I've definitely eaten undercooked chicken on more than one occasion and I'm pretty sure DS ate his own poo when he was a toddler. Hopefully you're both ok

Yorkie177 · 26/09/2022 19:23

Well its done now. Why don’t you get some good probiotics in super fast and saccharomyces boullardi and that might give you some protection (or make you feel like you’re doing something!) If you do get ill they should do a good job at getting you back to normal quickly.

How did he not notice it was raw immediately he bit into it? Yet he ate two whole breasts raw?

Kizzyma · 26/09/2022 19:52

He’s the greediest man alive . He didn’t even realise after eating them . I saw them missing and asked them when he cooked them as I didn’t smell them cooking . He said he fancied them cold . He didn’t realise they were raw

GingerNutMe · 26/09/2022 20:00

You posted yesterday and now it's today. Did you survive ?!?!?!

BajaBaja · 26/09/2022 20:15

Eat lots of raw garlic. Or garlic bread with fresh minced garlic on top. It’s a natural antibiotic

Mandyjack · 26/09/2022 20:29

Doingprettywellthanks · 25/09/2022 14:55

And how old is your child?

food poisoning from “raw” chicken is dangerous and bloody awful. If not a hint within 4 hours, you can relax quite a bit. Fully relax after 12 hours.

Chicken can take up to 72hrs to react

Mandyjack · 26/09/2022 20:31

OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:23

Child is 4.

i wasn’t paying attention. It was a southern fried chicken breast. Cut it up into bits and started shovelling it in whilst reading something with ketchup. Went to cut the next half up and saw it was raw.

child too young to notice.

it was obviously an accident, who eats raw chicken on purpose?!

Surely you'd notice it was pink and not white and the texture is totally different when cutting let alone biting into it. Was it frozen?

SofaSurferfinder · 26/09/2022 20:40

I’m pretty sure , arent most of the frozen chicken nugget type things already cooked and you heat them up …. I think if it’s that you will be absolutely fine .

if it was raw whole chicken is prob be worried .

JT12 · 26/09/2022 20:45

I hope you and your child were both fine. Let us know how you were. I am (in my opinion 😂) a good mum and I have done this too. I was worried for days as I read that some bacteria can take days/ weeks to show up. I have two children and we all ate it. We were also all fine. Not even a slightly bad tummy - well I had a little tummy upset but I know that was from my anxiety. My children were neither up nor down. Don't worry too much but if you notice symptoms take them to the doctor. Thats all you can do and 'yes' its a learning lesson but I am still having plenty of those and my children are now 19 and 21 years old. We are not perfect. Don't feel too guilty. It was a mistake, not deliberate and apart from a small few here on mums net who seem to be pretty perfect ,most of us make lots of mistakes. Its okay

threatmatrix · 26/09/2022 20:58

My guess is because it was processed crap that you will probably be fine. There’s no point in worrying until you have something to worry about. At least you know what caused it and what to tell the doctor.

wentworthinmate · 26/09/2022 21:22

Most chicken nugget type products are cooked at the factory then frozen. You are only reheating per se. If it wasn’t raw (pink) before putting in the oven I should think you’d be fine.

Mummadeze · 26/09/2022 21:24

I ate raw breast of chicken once and was very sick for about 4-5 days. The doctor told me it was a disease from a chicken that gives it to you and then it is contagious. Sure enough, I did pass it on to someone else who was very sick too. My partner ate raw breaded chicken though and was totally fine. I think they are pre-cooked to some extent or the process makes them different. Good luck. Hope you don’t get ill.

LoisLane66 · 26/09/2022 21:40

You must be slightly mad if you think that chips and chicken take the same length of time to cook. I take it they were oven chips.

wellhelloitsme · 26/09/2022 21:51

Eh? Plenty of chicken nuggets and oven chips take roughly the same amount of time to cook. Why is it 'slightly mad' to think that when it's a fact?

Unless this was just a little dig at people having frozen food rather than preparing it from scratch?

I've got no skin in the game as I'm not a fan of nuggets and chips personally but they're a perfectly run of the mill thing to eat so your message seems very odd...

Jellicoe · 26/09/2022 22:09

Totally clickbait😂

Outsideswimbabe · 26/09/2022 22:49

Why are you wasting time posting here and waiting for replies that may or may not help your child? Phone 111 or your doctor and talk to them. If your child is unwell take to A&E or equivalent.

Kjpt140v · 27/09/2022 03:49

Don't panic. Keep observing your child, if he starts to show any signs of sickness contact doctor or hospital. Everything will be fine.

Looby57 · 27/09/2022 06:03

Was it a free range chicken? If so don’t worry. And get yourself a temperature probe from pro cook site about £15 to make sure next time. It needs to be 75c xxxx

Judijudi · 27/09/2022 11:58

Friends son ate under cooked chicken goujons and ended up in hospital with campylobacter he was very unwell for a couple of weeks. I’d be very worried too and I’d contact nhs for advice especially for child

Navigatingnewwaters · 27/09/2022 12:11

OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:28

Yes a chicken nugget thing. Processed shit that I’ll never eat again, I am scarred for life.

Maybe it will be better that it was processed

OhNoOhDearOh · 29/09/2022 19:28

Thanks again for the kind messages.

Unfortunately we have been poorly, but thankfully not too bad and I hope it stays that way. Zero appetite, stomach pains and diarrhoea, started the next day. I’m just hoping that’s it and we don’t now get campylobacter on top of the salmonella. I have had food poisoning before and was ill for two weeks and it was awful, so I pray that’s not to come.

the continued unhelpful comments just make me want to eye roll. Yes it was definitely raw, no I didn’t notice, yes it was completely my fault, no it wasn’t clickbait then fail to come back. I don’t live on mumsnet.

anyway, thank you again to those who were nothing but kind. Hopefully I don’t have a worse update over the next few days!

Hope you both feel better soon OP.

how do you know it's salmonella... have you been tested for it? If so make sure you look after yourself as salmonella can make you feel very poorly for weeks. I lost 1.5 stone in 3 weeks when I had it years ago!
