I know I aibu to post here but I’ve accidentally fed my myself and my child undercooked chicken, oven wasn’t up as high as I thought and chips were done so I thought ok. Definitely raw. Am so anxious.

likelihood of illness? What do I do? Is there anything that can be done? Google says don’t make yourself sick.

Honestly with the raw chicken thing my ex actually bit a raw chicken leg and didn't notice at first my aunt thought she had bought COOKED chicken legs for the family picnic handed them around ex took it bit it CHEWED IT then she looked at the packaging and said DONT EAT IT! he had to spit it out in the bushes and no he wasn't actually ill surprisingly

So it's not always a guarantee you get sick

OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:29

It was birds eye.

Don’t blame the product

NoSquirrels · 25/09/2022 15:30

I think if it’s max half a nugget you will hopefully be fine. Obviously you may not be, and that’s a worry, but try not to drive yourself mad about it. What’s done is done and no cure for having eaten it exists now, just cross your fingers. Keep eating and drinking normally.

Vapeyvapevape · 25/09/2022 15:30

What temperature did you have the oven on ?

OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:30

I’m not blaming the product. Someone asked the make.

OP posts:
OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:32

It was half a breast.

No idea on oven temp. I always put it on 200 but I turned it off before I realised so maybe I didn’t put it far enough round.

does it matter? The chicken was raw, it was my error, it’s been eaten. I need some reassurance I guess. Proper freaking out. Been to the loo 5 times with anxiety poo 🙈😂

Most of the ‘processed shit’ are already half cooked. You’ll probably be fine

Eddieisadick · 25/09/2022 15:34

You will more than likely be absolutely fine. I’ve eaten raw bacon (on purpose don’t ask), raw chicken (accidentally) and off steak. Not ill any of the times. It’s not automatic sickness, it’s only if there’s bacteria and to be honest processed food is so processed I doubt you’ll have to worry

DurhamDurham · 25/09/2022 15:35

We'll it's not always a disaster, when my daughter came home drunk one night she decided to eat a whole pack of uncooked chicken goujons straight from the fridge. She thought they were ready cooked Hmm the next morning when we realised what she had done we were convinced she was going to be ill.
I watched for signs all weekend waiting for her to be sick and she was absolutely fine. She hasn't eaten chicken since the, can't bare the thought of it.

Hope you and your daughter have a lucky escape too, I'd feel dreadful too.

Doingprettywellthanks · 25/09/2022 15:35

does it matter?

No op, not in the slightest, not remotely relevant 🙄

ThanksAntsThants · 25/09/2022 15:35

Oh dear. The good news is you might not get ill, but the bad news is there’s fuck all you can do about it if you’re going to. The other good news is you’ll never do that again.

Birdy1066 · 25/09/2022 15:36

Odds are you’ll be fine. Drink plenty of water, sipping it not big gulps and try to think about something else. When my mother had dementia this was something the whole family regularly experienced. I remember eating a cod in butter sauce ( again Bird’s Eye ! ) and finding half of it was stone cold with flakes of ice still on it. I hadn’t noticed as when you eat it you eat it in tandem with chips and veg.
We all survived. Felt sick but survived.
I accidentally ate half a large caterpillar concealed in a Brussels sprout this weekend. Horrendous.

thirstyformore · 25/09/2022 15:38

My husband ate a southern fried chicken breaded style nugget from the fridge thinking it was a cooked one (it wasn't). No side effects whatsoever, although I wonder how much of what's inside is actually chicken!

NoSquirrels · 25/09/2022 15:38

Definitely try not to worry, OP.

RawChickenTray · 25/09/2022 15:38

Maybe spend the next few hours getting things you need to get done done? Nip and buy some emergency supplies/toilet roll/andrex wipes etc? Then if you don’t get ill, happy days!

whynotwhatknot · 25/09/2022 15:43

just keep an eye on your child and hope for the best not alot you can do now

kateandme · 25/09/2022 15:43

I will cause your tummy more harm by this much worry.anxiety on the gut can bring on all sorts of IBS horrific symptoms.just as bad as poisoning.
keep eating and drinking.make sure there other meals and stuff lining the stomach so your body isn’t just feeding off said raw chicken. Might be worth if u can have if some plain something or other now.bit of toast?

SpeckofDustUponMySoul · 25/09/2022 15:46

How would we know whether you'll be fine?
Maybe a point of learning is to pay more attention to what you are feeding your 4 year old child and to stop shovelling crap into your mouth?
🤷

@OhNoOhDearOh We did this and ds was only 3. I was soooo worried. All was fine honestly. I predict you will be back in a few days saying all was fine Flowers

BroomHandledMouser · 25/09/2022 15:50

@SpeckofDustUponMySoul wow, well aren’t you just a fucking peach?

OP I’m sure you’ll be fine, just be a little careful in future x

FurryDandelionSeekingMissile · 25/09/2022 15:52

The FSA has been working hard on both salmonella and campylobacter in chicken, and it's more likely than not that you'll get lucky. Healthy people don't usually suffer dangerous illness from the levels of salmonella and campylobacter contamination present in most UK chicken. There was a recall in May due to unacceptable levels of salmonella contamination in some breaded raw frozen chicken products, so this stuff is monitored to try to protect people from this kind of mistake, because they know that accidents like this happen. Keep an eye on it but don't panic.

OhNoOhDearOh · 25/09/2022 15:53

Thank you all for your kindness. I still feel as sick as a dog with anxiety and the thought of eating chicken ever again is not on the radar. I really hope you’re all right and I’ll be fine. I will report back… I sincerely pray with good news.
