To say it OK to pee in the shower?

GingerNutMe · 25/09/2022 10:13

So the question is, is it OK to pee whilst in the shower - proviso being you ensure you have washed everything away properly. The topic of conversation came up relating way back to one of the Big Brother series where someone admitted to regularly peeing in the shower.

One logic was 'well most families share one sponge/flannel/fluffy to wash their faces as well as all their bottoms and winky bits' ..........

I just use my hands and soap.

Sponges, flannels and loofahs are beautiful breeding grounds for bacteria, fungus and all sorts.

Come sit with me on the hands and soap freaks bench!

I'll join you! No flannels/loofahs/puffy things here either.

The shower pee is the best pee in my opinion!!! Everyone does it just not everyone admits to it. It's more environmentally friendly too

That's what people who pee in the shower say to make themselves feel better about doing it. But not 'everyone' does it.

LT2 · 25/09/2022 13:40

Same here with the just hands and soap! My hubby is the same.

LT2 · 25/09/2022 13:41

Erm, nope. I would be willing to admit it on here anonymously, but I honestly do not. I've maybe tried it once, and felt weird doing it, so decided never again!

Do it @LT2 it's liberating!!

clpsmum · 25/09/2022 13:44

@Sparklingbrook I don't need to make myself feel better. It's normal and eco friendly. More bacteria on the hundreds of sponges, facecloths and towels everyone seems to have!!

Turtletotem · 25/09/2022 13:50

I haven't read all the replies but recently read that it's bad to pee in the shower because it sends the signals that running water means you pee and obviously that's not ideal...
Each to their own though 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don't do it to make myself feel better. It's natural and cleaner than using toilet paper to wipe.

inappropriateraspberry · 25/09/2022 13:52

All goes down the same drain. I'm not getting out of a shower, dripping wet, to use the loo!

DillDanding · 25/09/2022 13:53

I don't pee in the shower but I don't get people having a conniption about those who do. It all goes into the same drain.

Winky bits 🤨

yep 😕

OriginalUsername3 · 25/09/2022 13:56

Peeing in the shower is fine.
This well most families share one sponge/flannel/fluffy to wash their faces as well as all their bottoms and winky bits is rank! Your sponge is like your toothbrush, not for sharing!

If that's what you genuinely believe then crack on. (in your own shower that is)

No it's not.

People also like to say it's more environmentally friendly. In which case they presumably always use the shower to pee in and never use the loo?

They do? I personally don’t pee in the shower, but find the idea of it far less disgusting than the thought of whole families sharing the one flannel or sponge to wash all their body parts. 🤢

5128gap · 25/09/2022 14:09

SeemsSoUnfair · 25/09/2022 10:33

Washed towels? Sharing washed towels is normal and not really sharing. Using someone elses unwashed towel is gross.

If your towels are 'gross' after your family members have dried their just showered bodies on them, you're not washing yourselves properly.

Seenandheard · 25/09/2022 14:12

I have to highlight a potential problem with this.

A female doctor recently wrote an article about how it can be responsible over the long term for mild urinary incontinence. Madness, you say. But the gist was, you start to subconsciously build the association between shower and peeing (even worse... running water and peeing!!) If you have a weak pelvic floor like me after 2 kids, or if it's weaker due to ageing, this can be a problem.. and I started to experience it before I read this article. Basically , after a few months of shower wees (sounds awful doesn't it!), I got to a point of having a massive urge to wee the second I stepped in the shower even if i had peed 5 mins before. I thought it was odd, then I read that article and stopped my terrible habits immediately. The urge has now gone. Just a word of warning! (Imagining myself 10 years from now involuntarily weeing when someone turns a tap on 😆)

happygertie · 25/09/2022 14:14

Why wouldn't you pee in shower, it is instantly washed away, it's not like the shower will have pee in it afterwards. Plus it's hygienic as it's cleaner than just wiping ya fancy with tissue!

People saying no way , absolutely not etc need to get a grip.

This. It's being discussed all over the place in France. See here:

Sixtyfourteen · 25/09/2022 14:15

I think I've also read that peeing standing up is bad for the female anatomy, which is designed for peeing sitting down.

icebearforpresident · 25/09/2022 14:16

Been peeing in the shower for years, never felt the urge for a piss when I run the tap. Also deal with my menstrual cup in the shower.
