To say it OK to pee in the shower?

GingerNutMe · 25/09/2022 10:13

So the question is, is it OK to pee whilst in the shower - proviso being you ensure you have washed everything away properly. The topic of conversation came up relating way back to one of the Big Brother series where someone admitted to regularly peeing in the shower.

One logic was 'well most families share one sponge/flannel/fluffy to wash their faces as well as all their bottoms and winky bits' ..........

Wow - I didn't expect so many replies so quickly. For those concerned about my whereabouts I've been out shopping. I needed some bleach for the shower 😂

So personally, yes I have peed in the shower and whilst I don't make a habit of it, I use the loo when I can, but if I'm in the shower then why not, it all gets washed away. I just make sure I wash all around with the handheld shower head.

In terms of flannels etc, we use those shower puff things, well at least I do and we have one each. The kids use the main bathroom and we use the en-suit for showers which is the vast majority of times. All of us only have occasional baths, all much prefer a shower.

In terms of reminiscing, as a child we didn't have luxuries such as showers, double glazing or central heating. We had a bath 2 or 3 times a week and even with 5 of us in the house we all shared the same water!

No, disgusting. It makes the shower/bath smell. Grim.

Don't care how you 'wash it away' you CAN tell when someone does it (I could tell when my flatmate was doing it) and it's gross to shower in a bath/shower that smells of urine.

HadEnough798 · 25/09/2022 13:19

Also the plumbing is different for a reason! Toilets are designed to remove waste quickly so it doesn't sit around and smell. Bath/shower traps are not. Eurgh.

ouch321 · 25/09/2022 13:20

No that's disgusting.

Sparklingbrook · 25/09/2022 13:21

It's a peeing in the shower thread. It's like cat poo in the garden or reclining chairs on airplanes threads.
And there's also the added problem of people wondering about the piss troll. Sad

VladmirsPoutine · 25/09/2022 13:21

There are people who walk among us who do not use something to wash themselves with when they shower!!!!! Just their hands and soap!

NellesVilla · 25/09/2022 13:21

A wee in the shower? 🤷‍♀️ I have other things to worry about tbh. Period blood goes down, why not wee?!

mooselooseaboothoose · 25/09/2022 13:23

As soon as I get in the shower I need a wee.

Circleoflife2057 · 25/09/2022 13:24

I've always peed in the shower (and bath!). It's literally just water with some salts and urea in. Pee is actually very clean and shouldn't have bacteria in it. It gets washed away with the shower water anyway. No one has died or even got sick from someone peeing in the shower.

YoSofi · 25/09/2022 13:14

I’m pretty sure they meant WRINKLY bits, for all those disturbed by “winky bits”

Urgh, not sure that's any better TBH.

FabFitFifties · 25/09/2022 13:25

It's fine in your own shower - but I never do it on purpose 😂

Oh Sparks!!! I'm inclined to give you a pass! Every time some variant of the hygiene topic comes up on Mumsnet it's like an education. I honestly will never understand why and how so many people revel in filth.

LesOliviers · 25/09/2022 13:27

I do. I draw the line at peeing in the bath though.

FlySwimmer · 25/09/2022 13:27

I don’t see the problem? The pee is immediately washed away and then you wash your body?

Sharing flannels, sponges, towels though? Absolutely not.

AloysiusBear · 25/09/2022 13:27

Its literally a standard recommendation to help with bladder emptying for people with loads of common issues like prolapse or recurring cystitis.

It's fine & saves water too.

Lockheart · 25/09/2022 13:28

When you have cystitis one of the things I've seen recommend to sooth it on MN (albeit one I haven't tried) is to take a bath and if you need to, pee while you're in it.

Yes of course, it’s just pee. Saves water on flushing the loo.

This is what I think too.

We don't share flannels or sponges though

Italiangreyhound · 25/09/2022 13:31

No it's not acceptable

No we don't share flannels or sponges.

I just use my hands and soap.

Sponges, flannels and loofahs are beautiful breeding grounds for bacteria, fungus and all sorts.

Pee is much more hygienic than the rest of the dirt you wash off in the shower.

True. Pee has an enormous amount of urea, which is an essential product in many moisturisers. In the old days in Spain, men working in the fields used to urinate on their hands to keep them warm and moist. It sounds gross today, but it was quite effective.

We have reached such a level of stupidity that we can only piss in a toilet even when the shower and toilet drain are connected, and it's cleaner to have a shower at the same time you take a leak.

clpsmum · 25/09/2022 13:34

The shower pee is the best pee in my opinion!!! Everyone does it just not everyone admits to it. It's more environmentally friendly too

FangsForTheMemory · 25/09/2022 13:35

Good grief I live alone and have a clean flannel every day. Share one???! 🤮

I don’t pee in the shower either.

Januarytoes · 25/09/2022 13:36

I have a mesh repair after a prolapse. When I pee it comes out sideways, straight up, or straight forward so I always make a toilet unusually dirty.

I therefore enjoy peeing in the shower. It does sometimes make the grouting round the plughole go yellow so I bleach that
