To say it OK to pee in the shower?

GingerNutMe · 25/09/2022 10:13

So the question is, is it OK to pee whilst in the shower - proviso being you ensure you have washed everything away properly. The topic of conversation came up relating way back to one of the Big Brother series where someone admitted to regularly peeing in the shower.

One logic was 'well most families share one sponge/flannel/fluffy to wash their faces as well as all their bottoms and winky bits' ..........

Years ago we were told by a paediatrician that urine is sterile as he tipped a sample down the ward sink😲

He's right though.

This was debated upthread ^^

DonnaBanana · 26/09/2022 18:34

If it’s sterile then why do toilets stink really bad if wee is left to dry on the floor? It’s clearly not clean water.

Water left stagnant sticks too.

GladAllOver · 26/09/2022 22:06

Perfectly OK to pee in the shower. I do it every time to flush out when washing down there. And it saves water flushing the toilet.

Titsywoo · 26/09/2022 22:08

I hate it and think it is disgusting. Get out and wee on the toilet.

Verbena87 · 26/09/2022 22:08

With my knackered pelvic floor a shower wee is a good way of actually emptying my whole bladder as you’re not stuck in a sitting-in-a-chair position. So yanbu.

sharing flannels/sponges is yuk though.

UWhatNow · 26/09/2022 22:23

I’d think it was more weird to hold it and get out of the shower to pee! It goes down the plug with litres of water and detergent so is well diluted.

He’s not. Every inch of your body is covered in millions of bacteria, including your bladder. We now know there are more bacteria cells than human cells in your body!

Not that I think there's anything wrong with peeing in the shower, the stuff you wash off your body is full of bacteria and in fact the soap/detergents are probably worse for the ecosystem than urine.

But It turns out that urine is not, as many people believed including me until recently, sterile.

WatchingTheCloudsRollAway · 27/09/2022 10:17

It's fine. People are so bloody uptight!

Fuggly · 27/09/2022 10:20

Absolutely fine. I do it.

GasPanic · 27/09/2022 10:20

No issues with it, unless you don't clean the shower or wash it all down the plug hole.

The problem is showers get dirty and the floors of the shower trays get covered in "stuff". This tells you some dirt always doesn't get washed away. This means some piss won't get washed away (even if it is diluted), and will probably collect around areas like the plughole, staining them yellow. Which is not pleasant.

So if you are going to piss in the shower it is probably important to make sure the shower tray and round the plughole is properly washed and cleaned out afterwards. Unfortunately the kind of person scruffy enough to piss in the shower is probably the same kind of person who doesn't give two hoots about cleaning the shower tray out properly either.

TheDogsDinner · 27/09/2022 10:38

I don't just pee in the shower, I brush my teeth while I'm in there too.
We don't share towels and flannels though.

Blimey I don’t even leave the tap running whilst brushing my teeth, let alone leave a shower going?

DillDanding · 27/09/2022 13:34

I brush my teeth in the shower. It takes at least 2 minutes to get my thick hair wet so it’s a good use of my time. I also do squats while I’m brushing 😂

RolyPolyLittleBatFacedGirl1 · 27/09/2022 13:35

Apparently urine is only sterile while it’s sat in the bladder. Once it travels down your urethra and out the end it’s no longer sterile as it picks up bacteria along the way.

I read once Madonna pees on her feet in the shower to keep them soft. No idea if it’s true or not but surely Madge has got the funds to splash out on a tube of Flexitol.

Purple52 · 27/09/2022 13:45

People taking issue with pee going down the drain in the shower …. Check your plumbing …. (In the house not your bladder) …. It’s the same blooming drain!!
it ALL ends up in the same place!!

& “if it’s yellow let it mellow” is absolutely rank! & how you end up with calcium and lime scale deposits in your toilet ! 🤮

Cam22 · 27/09/2022 14:09

OP:
No it’s not ok. Only a skanky person would do that sort of thing.

Sistanotcista · 27/09/2022 14:10

JuliaDorneys · 25/09/2022 11:51

In our house we don't possess flannels or any of the stuff people use to 'wash'.

Flannels are disgusting, along with loo brushes. Unless you use it once then boil-wash it.

Why do you need a flannel in the shower? We just put shower gel into our palms and use our hands to wash.

As for sharing towels- yuck.

@JuliaDorneys - thank goodness for your post! I was beginning to think we were terribly unusual in not having flannels. We have a choice of a soap bar and shower gel, and people are expected to use their hands. Now I know that English visitors are probably judging me for the lack of flannels! Each person in the house, and all visitors get their own towels. I have no idea what people do in the shower, but as long as it is not obviously gross (using my toothbrush to push a poo down the plughole, for instance!) I don't care. As other posters have said, menstrual blood, old skin, etc gets washed down - why panic about urine?

Taffetasilkchiffon789 · 27/09/2022 14:16

I simply don’t understand why it’s necessary. You are in the shower for about 10 minutes. And showers are usually located in rooms where there is a loo a few steps away.

So why would you need to?

Do you think the body produces limescale? The way you end up with limescale in your toilet is by living in a hard water area.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/09/2022 14:17

It’s fine but the sponge/ flannel thing is gross

Motherofalittledragon · 27/09/2022 14:19

Exbf once walked in whilst I was brushing my teeth in the shower, his head practically exploded so disgusted was he that he scrubbed the shower. Maybe the twat shouldn't have just walked in hey!

pinok · 27/09/2022 14:30

During heavy period, wear a tampon in the shower yes or no? Had never thought of this!
