How awful it must be for him to lose his mother and then immediately take on this role. He's had his whole life to prepare, but can a person ever really prepare for something like that?

OP posts:

Yup, it's so annoying, I've taken it one step further with cavalier King Charles spaniel, it's floating around my head.

I hadn't until you mentioned it- cheers.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 08/09/2022 23:03

Oh, damn you @Ladyof2022 now I’m going to have to Google Charles and tampon.

Don't do it.

Unless you like the sensation of bleaching your eyes afterwards.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 08/09/2022 23:05

I always had a niggling suspicion that Charles might die before his mother... guess I got that wrong. Oh well, King Charles III it is. I wish him all the best- he has big boots to fill.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 08/09/2022 23:05

overcame a lot of hurdles to be with the woman he loves

Hurdles like his wife, you mean?

MaryLennoxsScowl · 08/09/2022 23:07

Eurgh, I didn’t listen @OnTheRunWithMannyMontana and now I need to throw up.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 08/09/2022 23:08

@MaryLennoxsScowl I tried to warn you!

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet Diana didn't start seeing 'other' men until she realised that Charles was seeing Camilla again and didn't love her and the marriage couldn't be repaired.

And at least she had a job before she got married.

He served in the Royal Navy. And how come being Monarch is a job but being prepared for that role is not?

godmum56 · 08/09/2022 23:16

Mischance · 08/09/2022 19:38

I am afraid I do not share the sentiments - he did not overcome lots of hurdles to be with the woman he loved, he was with her during his marriage and callously allowed his young wife to be sacrificed to his own desires. I have no time for the man to be frank.

I am sorry his Mum has died, but that does not make me blind to his faults.

this. He is an adulterer.

Always4Brenner · 08/09/2022 23:16

I’m a silly bugger I cried when I read she’d died I do pity Charles though lost mum and now on display as soon as.

Blossomtoes · 08/09/2022 23:19

comments about Charles’s deep grief over his 96 year old mother are ridiculous. She was ancient, people die, he knew it was coming, he’ll miss her sometimes

My mum was 97 when she died. I was devastated.

So it’s ok that she spent years shagging at least 4 married men? What about Will cArling - she wasn’t married to Charles but Will was married to his wife. Not exactly some sweet innocent lamb IMHO. It’s either OK to have affairs or it’s not - you cant have the double standard

Does anyone else want to add ‘spaniel’ when they hear King Charles? 😬

YES! I used to have two Cavaliers...that's my excuse anyway 😆

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 08/09/2022 23:20

*4 men when she was married (and AFAIK 2 of those men were married themselves)

Am raising a glass to his mum, may she rest in peace.

Truss' statement was excellent, I am very glad Boris wasn't in office for this.

Yes, I thought Boris's statement this afternoon was in very poor taste . He couldn't resist inserting himself into the situation and undermining Liz Truss. Even the death of the monarch had to be All About Boris. His wording was eloquent but in a show-offy way. Truss (of whom I am no fan) had the decency to keep hers simple and restrained.

Nonunsnonunsnone · 08/09/2022 19:33

Plus him and Diana spent about 4 days in each others private company prior to their engagement. They were strangers.

An arranged marriage, basically

BMW6 · 08/09/2022 22:58

Ooh yes, I'd forgotten that we'd be Carolinans !
That will fry some on here 😆

We could always be Charlatans.

Namedifferentorquestion · 08/09/2022 23:28

I like Charles. I don't believe all the rubbish and emotional clap trap written.

I like that he has always loved the natural environment and cares about it.

She, nor any woman, is not responsible for a man deciding to cheat on his wife

ivykaty44 · 08/09/2022 23:46

Charles III is the oldest king to take the throne at 73, the previous was 64

Whatthe4 · 08/09/2022 23:47

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/09/2022 19:32

I was a cheater. I was in a miserable marriage, I met someone and I cheated.

It sucked. But it happens.

People aren’t perfect. Doesn’t mean they aren’t good people.

Why couldn't you just end the miserable marriage before jumping into bed with somebody else? I presume you weren't being held against your will although do correct me if I'm wrong.

It really grinds my gears when people trot out the "my marriage was miserable so I cheated" line as though it absolves them of judgement.

That's what all the philandering men tell their OW's, oh how miserable their marriage is.

Do better.

Yes, also the longest heir apparent, beating Edward VII.

Ive reported your post, you're making a personal attack on another poster, its none of your business and completely irrelevant to the thread anyway

AshTrees · 08/09/2022 19:25

He will always be Charles the Cheater as far as I am concerned and Camilla will always be the OW

I doubt he's bothered about your opinion. I think there comes a time when you have to stop getting worked up over something that happened between people you don't know more than 30 years ago.

Will the national anthem lyrics change ?

Well, yes, Just as they did back in 1952.
