To have a party this weekend even if the Queen dies

We have been planning the garden party for two months, 30+ people invited for this Saturday. Now with the news on TV about Queen's health we are unsure whether we should cancel it, and what to do if the sad news happens tomorrow or Saturday.
Would you find it appropriate to come to the big party in case of the Queen dies on the day?

YANBU - proceed with the event as planned.

AIBU - cancel the party, it will be inappropriate and awkward

honestly, I think it depends what your friends are like. None of mine would be fussed but if you’ve got some mates who would be upset, spoil the mood or not want to attend, be mindful.

Ds has planned a big cabaret for months this weekend raising funds for his theatre group before he goes off to music college.

I don't think these days most people would think it necessary to cancel things like that, things have moved on in 70 years.
However you could always do a toast if you thought it appropriate.

I have in fact got a party and it was already cancelled once this year as her dad died. 🙁

Do you know the Queen personally? Do you cancel parties everything someone dies?

We've got a family wedding on Saturday.
My first thought was "I hope this doesn't mess it up".
Probably ridiculous to even think it, but I do remember friends whose wedding day coincided with Diana's funeral were asked if they were going to cancel it.
They didn't but it seemed rude of people to even ask it.
Although I doubt there'll be the same sort of hysteria in this case.

I wouldn't cancel but agree that if your friends are likely to be upset, then raising a glass to the Queen and celebrating her life and long reign would be nice (& then enjoy yourselves!!)

We’ve had relatives die and have carried on with planned events, we’ve always told our children that’s what the person who died would have wanted.
