Dammit I really want to join in but I'm a sodding vegan. Shamelessly placemarking for tomorrow.

Could you use a bit of apple sauce or some flax seed? Or maybe aquafaba?

Zonder · 18/07/2022 17:27

We have a metal coffee table in the garden. I could try on that tomorrow. On foil.

PearlClutch · 18/07/2022 17:41

For some reason I'm feeling sorry for these eggs.

Jibbajabba1 · 18/07/2022 17:44

Haha great thread! May have to join in tomorrow!

If anyone has black stone it should work better, 4pm is optimum usually time wise. I have black but a mere 29 here

The yolk has exploded.
I think my egg has got a bit of tan and possible sunstroke. 😬

Is that an egg? Haha.

This is a great thread. What else can we try? 😂

REP22 · 18/07/2022 18:03

That was to @drinkingwineoutofamug Reply button not working 🙄

TickTickTock · 18/07/2022 18:35

Aquafaba could work! Could try vegan meringue- that only needs a low temp 😂

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 18/07/2022 18:44

@HangingOver definitely give the aquafaba a go! Whizz it up into meringue mix and then experiment 😁. You could get some apricot halves for “yolks” 😂

Kerzehmet · 18/07/2022 18:46

'How do you want your egg?'
'Strokable' Grin

Also. I have no hob as in the middle of a kitchen Reno. So maybe I can make fried eggs sarnies tomorrow on the patio 🤷🏻‍♀️

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 18/07/2022 18:52

Don't try an egg on the car for ffs sake. I did it as a kid and the paint came off. We were in massive trouble.

JudgeJ · 18/07/2022 19:07

Has no-one come on yet cluctching their pearls and clucking about the waste of a good egg that could have fed a family of four?

peppapigisanob · 18/07/2022 19:13

Placemarking as I'll be joining the eggsperiment tomorrow from sunny Hampshire.

(I'm going to try and cook it on a black BBQ lid)

Justhereforthis · 18/07/2022 19:24

No oil sadly (often ‘dry fry’ eggs anyway).
I set the pan out on a hot paving slab to preheat before adding the egg. Regular checks with the heat gun revealed a maximum temp of 41.2°c. After an hour I had a slight white tinge on the outer egg and after 2 hours, a slightly papery dry effect on the egg white that had run thin within the pan.
Fun but quite disappointing.

Justhereforthis · 18/07/2022 19:32

Enigma2000 · 18/07/2022 14:46

Justhereforthis

Oh yes, do try.
what oil will you use?

Sorry the post above was my belated reply! Forgot to quote!

Fortunately my NDN has prolific hens and our consumption doesn't keep up with what she palms off kindly gives us, so we have a few old ones I'm lining up for tomorrow!

Oh dear. I think your egg has dried out. You made egg…jerky?

I look forwards to tomorrow’s eggsperiment. I still don’t think it will cook, but I love a bit of experimental learning.
