By the way, you don't use a pan (I know eugh) it's just to prove a point that the ground is that hot

My dad used to fry eggs in Egypt on the bonnet of his tank.
(Do tanks have bonnets?).

JustTwoNights · 19/07/2022 21:07

We tried this earlier. The egg essentially dessicated/dried out over a hour or so as opposed to sizzling. I've left it for the rats foxes. You would want to put it in a butty.

JustTwoNights · 19/07/2022 21:28

You *wouldn't want to put it in a butty!

Knock knock?
Who's there?
Egbert
Egbert who?
Egbert no bacon.

You should be able to. Use a pan or sheet of metal. Soldiers used to wipe some oil on a cleanish surface of their tanks in the North African campaign to fry eggs.

Not on a brick or concrete slab though!

In 1976 (I know, 100 years ago!) the news team on the BBC or ITV fried an egg on the pavement and it wasn't even as hot as the current heatwave. It worked then ...

Why doesn’t it work now though? I reckon it’s an urban myth. None of them have cooked at all, only dried out, and lots of people have tried. There’s lots of talk of it happening to others but not one actual happening (today)

For an easy clean up you could always put tin foil down first on patio or car bonnet, it should help. We've done cup cakes in a foil qnd cardboard oven before and it worked.

Maybe they had already partly cooked it?

PearlClutch · 20/07/2022 09:49

Jumpcut. It's probably a fake!

Astroturf may finally have a use:

Too funny 😂😂

liveforsummer · 20/07/2022 11:46

My friend who was in the Navy used to send me pictures of eggs cooked on the flight deck of his ship when they were in the Middle East. They'd sizzle and cook immediately when cracked. No idea how a ginger Scottish bloke managed to work in those conditions in uniform 😆

I did it yesterday, in a frying pan, on the flags in the garden. It didn't good as such but just kind of dried up. This was at the beginning but the end result was a dried up mess! 🤣 you can see where the edges are turning white though.
