To tell colleagues what happened with boss? Am I allowed to say if I’m still employed?

Grievance at work partially upheld. Advised (by friends, peers, other HR colleagues) not to appeal as it’s basically end of my career, outcome unlikely to change and I’d have to resign anyway.
Grievance against boss so he definitely has influence. It was a drunken verbal and physical attack, witnessed by many. I can’t stay in the job. Feel let down by company not to mention the working relationship is untenable for me.
AIBU to tell colleagues (inc other female direct reports to him) why I’m leaving, am I even allowed to whilst I’m still in employment? What about new employers, can I tell them the truth whilst I job search?
I’ve asked my HR but they’ve said they can’t discuss that until the grievance is formally closed (believe pushing me to not appeal).

Amazing very well done OP.

SeaCreatureCool · 10/11/2022 09:46

OP - I don't think settlements are taxed? Just the gardening leave part for when you are employed are. Was your lump sum taxed?

drspouse · 10/11/2022 09:47

I just came to this and am really pleased at your outcome though astonished they think you'd in any way want to work there again!
Are you now allowed to say who it was?

Viviennemary · 10/11/2022 10:06

If you were physically attacked then you shoild have reported it to the police. It is criminal assault. None of this makes any sense.

SeaCreatureCool · 10/11/2022 10:07

NO ONE HAS TO REPORT ANYTHING TO THE POLICE EVER

There are multiple reasons why women particularly may not want to report the police - no woman should ever be told they have to .

Have you reported to the police?

You need external legal advice. Don’t do anything until you have this as it could create a mess.

If it was witnessed the chances are that a lot of people know and have discussed this but are keeping quiet due to their fear of losing their job.

HR are being correct but will be biased towards the company.

I find a lot of helpful online advice around this sort of thing. But try find free legal advice

Viviennemary · 10/11/2022 10:10

I didnt read the thread. Sorry.

thenightsky · 10/11/2022 10:10

What a brilliant outcome OP and very well done!

What amazes me is how many pps are incapable of reading the OP's posts/updates.

Carlycat · 10/11/2022 10:21

Nothing further to add apart from please report this to the police. If nothing else it will support your grievance with this monster

Littlepiggiesinblankets · 10/11/2022 10:38

Thank you for the update, so glad you've been able to move forward and I'm sure this thread will (sadly, because we shouldn't have to face these situations at all) really help people in the future.

MavisChunch29 · 10/11/2022 10:40

Great resolution, OP. I'd have been telling the entire universe about him and exactly what he did straight away- not slander/libel if it's true.

EleanorRavenclaw · 10/11/2022 10:45

Great update OP. Sadly a lot of organisations don’t have processes to support grievances and a lot of problems are so badly managed people don’t want to report or tackle them. This shows it can be worth persevering and I’m pleased things worked out for you.

JasonsSon · 10/11/2022 10:46

What a bastard, holding or twisting someone's arm or wrist against their will is violent and abusive. I am not surprised that your work want to sweep this under the rug. I have no advice but look after yourself, get counselling as this situation will linger and affect your mental health due to the sheer unfairness of the situation. Everyone knows how nice to feels when people have your back in a conflict. In this case the abuser is experiencing this solidarity and support while the victim is further abused by the process and culture of this workplace. Nasty, nasty.

PoppyFleur · 10/11/2022 10:51

I remember this thread and I’m so pleased for you. What an awful thing to endure, you should be so proud of yourself for the way you conducted matters.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/11/2022 11:04

Excellent outcome, OP, and so pleased you're happy in a new job

I also hope the latest one it's happened to follows through on the legal route. It may complicate things because the attacker's been sacked now, but maybe - just maybe - the company will learn something from this

kateandme · 10/11/2022 11:47

I’m just worried for people still at this company. They were very much part of this.multiple times. And it’s obviously going to still be happening there in one form or another. Makes me sick they aren’t named and shamed and buried.

Frazzled2207 · 10/11/2022 12:12

wow op that is a good update
I am pleased you got yourself a better job and that you told your ex employer to stuff it. I'd like to think all of us would do the same but I suppose if you hadn't got yourself another job it might have been tricky to refuse.
onwards and upwards!

Same here. They don’t even need to read the entire thread, just the OP’s posts!

Even the most recent update shows it’s been dealt with, so baffled at how many have managed to miss the fact the OP came on to update on the outcome and have just waffled away pointlessly 🙄
