Why was the T (and others) ever added to the LGB acronym?

The T (trans) is surely related to gender and not ones sexual orientation?

Am I missing something 😵‍💫

@Ijustreallywantacat

I would hope that most males respect the wishes of women to have single sex spaces. The idea that genital inspections are required is a complete nonsense, very few transwomen pass.

But Jen DID pass. She went to the toilet without incident! She only got found out because she TOLD PEOPLE.

I would assume they would want to use the mens. As they are not a risk to men that's their decision.

No, no. According to people on this thread, you should ONLY use the toilet that is in accordance with your biological sex.
So, let's say those men, or perhaps the lovely Brian attached, agrees with you. They believe that because they are a biological female, they should use the female toilets.
You are in the toilet, washing your hands. Brian walks in. What do you do?

No, no. According to people on this thread, you should ONLY use the toilet that is in accordance with your biological sex.

You misunderstand. According to this thread MEN should only use the toilet that is in accordance with their biological sex.
Because safeguarding.

Transmen (biological women) can use whichever toilet they want, because statistically they aren't a major source of threat to females.

Yes it is a double standard. Because a significant number of men are dangerous to women but almost no women or transmen are dangerous.

Ijustreallywantacat · 23/03/2022 19:39

Or at least we did have that right until a few years ago... I'm not sure how successful such a complaint would actually be now.

You still have that right. If anyone is behaving in a threatening or intimidating way, you absolutely have that right. I, nor would any trans person i know, would not want that right taken from you.

But that's not what people on the while usually say on here. They are absolute. If you have a vagina, you MUST use the ladies. If you have a penis, you MUST use the mens. Even if nobody notices you are trans. I'm really glad to hear your measured thoughts.

Perhaps you would answer my question about Brian? What would you do if Brian walked in to the ladies while you were in there?

Ijustreallywantacat · 23/03/2022 19:41

Transmen (biological women) can use whichever toilet they want, because statistically they aren't a major source of threat to females.

OK, I'll ask one more time. Brian WANTS to use the women's. He agrees that you should use the toilet according to the biological sex you were born. What would you do if were having a wee, opened the cubicle, and saw Brian standing there.

Ijustreallywantacat · 23/03/2022 19:42

(Assuming you had finished the wee, sorry that wasn't clear!)

Go and wash my hands i expect

Thats what happened last time i went to the loo and there was a man there

Didnt even spot that

You can normally tell transmen in person, in pictures they look very male but in person there is something 'off' about them, normally short in stature too. So I don't think you would feel threatened if you saw them in the toilet, but you might find it a bit creepy if you opened the toilet door and someone was just stood there staring at you.

Throckmorton · 23/03/2022 19:49

Er yes, if you have a penis you must use the mens. Women need, and have a legal right, to single-sex spaces

Ijustreallywantacat · 23/03/2022 19:50

*Go and wash my hands i expect

...but I thought we were supposed to challenge males that we see in OUR toilets...so you don't? You don't care if men are in the women's toilets? You wouldn't feel threatened?

Confused I'm confused.

Throckmorton · 23/03/2022 19:51

And yeah, transmen can use the womens.

Ijustreallywantacat · 23/03/2022 19:52

(Not that I would object, and sorry reading that back, really wanky tone lol!)

nothingcomestonothing · 23/03/2022 19:52

Since no one seems to want to answer my question upthread about Danielle Muscato, perhaps they'd like to explain how it is that Fionne Orlander manages to routinely use men's public toilets, yet apparently transwomen couldn't possibly do this?

@Ijustreallywantacat

This was a conference for the LGB Alliance, trans people have their own groups yet Jen saw fit to attend wearing a camera and microphone. Almost if they wanted to film an 'incident'.

www.pinknews.co.uk/2021/10/25/lgb-alliance-conference-trans-jen-ives/

She didn't film the incident. He did. Her crime was going to the toilet. Which she'd already done several times. He came up to her and began filming. You can hear others joining in.

And unless I've missed a memo, trans people can be LGB, right? Why can't they join or go to events?
Hardly fair to have an event ABOUT trans people without allowing trans people to attend. It's akin to a 'men's alliance' having a conference and discussing the 'problem with these wimmin' without women being allowed to attend!

Sorry Roses, it appears that people DO swoop in to defend people being called nonces and perverts without evidence....

But the event isn’t about transpeople.

It is actively not about transpeople.

If gay and lesbian transpeople want a group, they should form one. And have a conference all about being both trans and gay or lesbian.

Why do transpeople need to be centred?

Throckmorton · 23/03/2022 19:54

Fionne is awesome :)

Awesome acting confused skills there

Especially the little confused face…really nailing the emojis

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 23/03/2022 19:56

Last time i saw a man in the bogs i was in a mixed sex one if that helps

I didn’t know it was mixed sex til we both walked out of the cubicle

And we both washed our hands…good hygiene is important

I didn’t see this when I mentioned the emoji

Sorry 😳

But i do love a well placed emoji

@StScholastica

My lesbian cousin was punched in the face by a trans woman because she rejected her advances. She's a lesbian, the trans woman had a penis.Hmm She needed surgery for a broken jaw. Transwoman was never found to be prosected and is still out there somewhere.
I’ve also had an argument with a lesbian before. Should I assume all lesbians are nasty? Hmm 🤔

(Sarcasm).

Annette32123 · 23/03/2022 19:59

@Ijustreallywantacat

Do you share the same objections to the abuse, rape and death against women that are frequently received for women saying that men cannot be women?

Of course I do, but I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about this incident. Do you believe that her using the toilet means that she deserved to be called a nonce and a pervert?

How would you police it? Genital check? X Ray machine? A pat down? Seems the toilet guards were sleeping on the job.

It’s easy enough. You tell men not to use the ladies.

Women will use their own judgement appropriately. Because, women.

It doesn’t need to be policed. Have female only facilities and gender neutral facilities.

Why would that be problematic for men and transwomen?

BiscuitLover3678 · 23/03/2022 20:00

What happened to your cousin was horrific @StScholastica but you get sexual predators in all genders and sexualities.

Annette32123 · 23/03/2022 20:01

@BiscuitLover3678
What does your argument have to do with someone else being punched. You were not subject to male violence. She was. No similarity between two incidents.

Genders and sexualities yes.

But very few indeed of the female sex.

Quite right you are.

the point thought is that the vast majority of them are male, which is why women need single-sex spaces that are free from the more-dangerous sex, ie men. It doens't matter how those men identify
doublemonkey · 23/03/2022 20:03

@BiscuitLover3678

Whilst that might be true, the vast majority of sexual predators are men.

Stop trying to tar lesbians with the same brush.

I'm part of the community and I don't feel that we've been hijacked. Neither do any of my friends in the community. However, I guess our views don't matter and we're all brainwashed sheep who just go along with what Stonewall say for fear of being ostracised.
I spent many years being ostracised by straight people for not fitting in. I know how it feels to be judged as "not normal" or a "freak". If disagreeing with some people and saying trans people are not hijacking our community is gong to see me ostracised by them, I couldn't care less. I don't want to be part of such a judgemental community.
