To think Camilla should not be crowned Queen

I know there are other threads on this but I thought it would be interesting to get a vote. Seems most people are in favour. I'm not

I'm far more concerned about is calling Boris, Prime Minister! There's no reason Camilla shouldn't be Queen consort. If you're in favour of a hereditary monarchy then you take them as they come. Charles seems to take his duty to the throne seriously. Yes he had an affair but he found the woman he loves. The end.

Eightiesfan · 06/02/2022 01:21

@ClariceQuiff

I find it impossible to vote - I'm a republican so I don't believe anyone should be crowned anything; however if we can't get rid of the RF, Camilla, by the standards of the RF, is a reasonable option as Queen.
I agree, I think the monarchy is archaic and unnecessary in a modern society. I also think that once the Queen dies, it will be open season in the press with all the royals dirty little secrets being exposed.
DreamTheMoors · 06/02/2022 01:27

For years I was sympathetic to Diana and angry at both Camilla and Charles. Or more, “angry on Diana’s behalf.”

I’ve put away childish things now. Camilla will be wife of The King.
Besides, hasn’t Charles been determined for quite some time and hasn’t Her Majesty given her blessing?
What’s good enough for HMTQ is good enough for me.

minipie · 06/02/2022 01:28

I cannot see why it makes the slightest bit of difference what she is called.

couldhavenotcouldof22 · 06/02/2022 01:30

It's all a bunch of horse shit. I can't believe British people still tolerate a royal family. They should have been gotten rid of centuries ago.

DropYourSword · 06/02/2022 01:31

I don't see why not! I'm glad her and Charles are happy.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 06/02/2022 01:31

Why not? You haven't actually said a reason why you 'don't approve'.

TulipsGarden · 06/02/2022 01:32

Of course she'll be Queen Consort. She'll be the wife of the King, and that is what tradition dictates.

They all cheated and lied, in fact throughout history monarchs and their families have done hideous things. No reason why this one should be any different, especially as he should never have married his first wife in the first place.

couldhavenotcouldof22 · 06/02/2022 01:34

I say that as an Irish republican from a proud Irish republican family but wtf are you doing? This rich crowd of blood suckers are mugging you off and you're allowing it to happen? They don't give a fuck about you or your country. They're making as much money as they can..

Sparklingbrook · 06/02/2022 01:34

85% YABU. So you were right, most people are in favour.

StrawberryPot · 06/02/2022 01:35

I’ve really never understood the vitriol directed at Camilla.

She was shagging Charles before and during his marriage to Diana. It didn't just start when Charles and Diana began to drift apart.

Camilla also knew that Charles loved her not Diana, but did nothing to stop the very young, naive Diana from marrying a man she thought loved her.

Rainbowqueeen · 06/02/2022 01:38

As Queen consort surely her role will be the same as it is now? Supporting Charles and supporting worthy causes. I think she does a great job of that and deserves the Queen Consort title.

DdraigGoch · 06/02/2022 01:45

@Lockdownlard

But prince Philip was never King Philip? What’s the difference?
The patriarchy.

The only example of a male consort being declared King jure uxoris [by right of his wife] was Phillip the Prudent. Phillip was of course King of Spain in his own right anyway.

William of Orange did become King of England, Ireland, and Scotland in his own right, ruling jointly with his wife but there were political reasons to do with the Catholic 'threat'.

It was all very crap for Diana I agree. But she moved on she really did. Very much time everyone else did as well, FFS
EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 06/02/2022 02:10

I don't think it was up to Camilla to try and stop Diana from marrying him

I think as pp said St the time she didn't want to marry charles, although I think he probably wanted to marry her.

MeanderingGently · 06/02/2022 02:27

Of course Camilla should be Queen, I can't see the problem. She's Charles' wife and should he become king, she will be Queen consort.

Diana was a long time ago, she's been dead a long while and the whole thing involved two young people who weren't really suited and weren't really getting on. They both made mistakes, they both moved on, tragically one died in an accident....It wasn't Camilla's fault, but she has been very good for Charles. He is a much happier man for her presence and support, they will make a very good King and Queen and I hope Charles has some years as king before William takes over.

SenecaFallsRedux · 06/02/2022 02:41

Henry, Lord Darnley, the husband of Mary Queen of Scots, was made King Consort of Scotland.

Nancydrawn · 06/02/2022 02:44

Don't be ridiculous.

Oldsu · 06/02/2022 02:44

@FrecklesMalone

Charles should have been allowed to marry her in the first place. It would have solved a lot of heartache all round.
I have always said that
Hawkins001 · 06/02/2022 02:47

If a person has to say I am king, then they are no true king.

LadyPropane · 06/02/2022 02:50

Surely it makes sense?

I don't particularly like her either but that's not really relevant. If her husband becomes King then she becomes Queen. I'm not sure what legitimate challenge there could be?

FloraPotts · 06/02/2022 03:09

I am not in favour either op but I've no doubt it's going to happen. People have very short memories. I think it's incredibly sad how Diana, barely out of her teens, was used so cynically by those around her, including Charles & Camilla. Imagine walking down the aisle to be married, aware that your fiance's mistress is seated prominently among the wedding guests. If Camilla had had any conscience at all she should have taken herself off to live in Ireland or France or somewhere and have left them well alone. The marriage would probably still have failed but it would have been the honourable thing to do. I think you would have to be incredibly hard-faced to behave in the way she did. I don't think she behaved honourably and of course neither did Charles. However much you love a person, you should back off once they marry someone else, especially when there are young children involved.

twoladsnow · 06/02/2022 03:35

@Lockdownlard

But prince Philip was never King Philip? What’s the difference?
Their sex.
twoladsnow · 06/02/2022 03:37

@ilovesooty

I don't think Charles will abdicate either. It would be disrespectful of the role and of his mother.
Agree. Considering how much shame her uncle brought
SquirrelG · 06/02/2022 04:02

Struggling to see how it affects you either way OP.
