To refer to her vulva or vagina would you know what it means? Even if you didn't in the moment, would it click later?

YABU - no idea what she'd be on about.

YANBU - i would know/it's an easy connection to make.

You don't say the age of the girl, I am assuming little/very young. Calling it her wee-wee is fine.

What else should she call it? Her fanny?

Calling it her vulva is batshit. Why the F would a little girl call it her vulva?! PMSL!!!

NutCheeseBag · 03/02/2022 22:30

Yes I’d assume UTI

She’d use the word vulva in the same way as she’d use arm, or foot, or earlobe
LovejoysVase · 03/02/2022 22:32

“ Calling it her vulva is batshit. Why the F would a little girl call it her vulva?! PMSL!!!”

But that’s what it is.
Using anatomical names can save a whole load of heartache in trying to identify what your child is saying, and means less chance of misinterpretation in case of abuse.

Honestly, so many people are unnecessarily squeamish about human bodies!

Umm, to avoid exactly situations like this where it's not clear to an adult what a child means because you've taught them some ridiculous coy name for a body part?

Batshit?! To use the correct terminology is Batshit?
BeardieWeirdie · 03/02/2022 22:35

My little girl calls her vulva her vulva because that is its name and the only word I’ve ever used for it. It’s not batshit. I can’t say I’ve ever had her nursery workers or teachers pull me aside at pick-up to discuss her shocking language.

fallfallfall · 03/02/2022 22:37

Do you need to go wee, good girl going wee wee. Wee wee, pee pee, widdle and piddle. All baby talk.
And no I’d don’t expect a toddler to use anatomically or medically correct lingo.
But by 4-5 baby talk should be rare.

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2022 22:37

Calling it her vulva is batshit. Why the F would a little girl call it her vulva?!

Because that’s what it is? It isn’t rocket science.

BeardieWeirdie · 03/02/2022 22:39

Using coy euphemisms isn’t cute, it covers abuse.
“Miss, Uncle Jim touched/kissed/hurt my flower.”
“Oh really? That’s nice. Right, how are you getting on with your sums?”
This wouldn’t happen if your daughter used an appropriate word.

Jellycatspyjamas · 03/02/2022 22:39

So something like my wee wee hurts/is sore . Or if they were disclosing something.

In that context I’d assume she meant her vulva, but I’d also ask and check that i understood what she meant, as I would any time I wasn’t clear about what part of a child was hurting.

HelloFrostyMorning · 03/02/2022 22:39

Never in my life have I heard a very young girl say VULVA! 🤣

Never has any very young girl said it.

ONLY in the parallel world Mumsnet! Grin

fallfallfall · 03/02/2022 22:39

You could google? It’s in the Oxford dictionary from the 1930’s so not new at all.

Giraffesandbottoms · 03/02/2022 22:40

The other thread is ridiculous. Of course you can tell due to the context. Should you use the proper term? Yes. But can you tell regardless? Yes!

LowlyTheWorm · 03/02/2022 22:40

What’s truly batshit crazy is that fully grown adults see nothing wrong with using an anatomically inaccurate word for a woman's body part- a vulva is not a vagina. You wouldn’t call your nose an eyebrow or your wrist your knuckle… so wtf?
It beggars belief that people can’t use the word vulva. We really need to reclaim the vulva. It’s a bit sad though that there isn’t a sweet word for it like boys have a Willy. Willy and penis are fine. So maybe a Vuffy and and vulva?

HelloFrostyMorning · 03/02/2022 22:40

Yeah that's true that this is what it is.

Little girls don't call it that. 🤣

(Only on Mumsnet.)

DaisyWaldron · 03/02/2022 22:40

Yes, from context, I'd assume she meant her vulva. But it would be because if the context, and my knowledge that people use all sorts of random words for vulvas, so she could also have called it her oatcake or her pappardelle or her avocado or her waffle (I'm naming random objects I can see in the kitchen) and I'd have assumed the same thing.

I remember someone saying that her son was stung by a bee in the chipper and everyone listening thought it was a euphemism and he'd been stung in his penis, when actually he'd been queueing up to buy chips and was stung on his hand.

Wineat5isfine · 03/02/2022 22:41

No, this wouldn’t click with me at all. If a young girl said wee wee, I would assume that they needed a wee! This term shouldn’t be used for a vulva / vagina / etc etc 🙄

This thread is the gift that keeps on giving.

You lot are giving me a right laugh I tellz ya! Grin

TheSoapyFrog · 03/02/2022 22:42

Personally I wouldn't make the connection. I would assume she really needed to urinate and was describing the pressure. Or I'd worry she might have a UTI.

ljs22 · 03/02/2022 22:42

Yes I'd know what she meant.

Lemonandadropofhoney · 03/02/2022 22:43

Batshit? Why confuse a child because you have warped views on basic biology and anatomy? Hmm

I would think the child was referring to urine if they said pee pee.

DD (3) can't pronounce vulva or urethra yet however she can pronounce vagina so we're happy for her to use this word for her genitals until her language skills are more developed.

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2022 22:45

Little girls don't call it that.

Why shouldn’t they though? You seemed to be saying that it was wrong for them to use “vulva” to refer to their vulva.

I would 100% be concerned if someone told me uncle Jim kissed their flower
sadpapercourtesan · 03/02/2022 22:46

No, I'd think she was talking about urine. That's what wee means.

I would cotton on eventually, of course. But the whole thing is so unnecessary - it's ridiculous not to just teach children the correct terms in the first place.
