Hyde is the daughter of Sir Alastair Edgcumbe James Dudley-Williams, 2nd Baronet, and his wife, the former Diana Elizabeth Jane Duncan.[1] Through her father, she is the granddaughter of aviation pioneer and Conservative politician Sir Rolf Dudley-Williams, 1st Baronet. She attended Downe House School, near Newbury in Berkshire,[2] and read English at Christ Church, Oxford.[3]

She’s still a talented writer @derxa.

Notonthestairs · 25/01/2022 20:44

I've been reading her columns for years and she appears to slate pretty much all politicians (from memory May and Corbyn didn't get off lightly).

There's just too material and it would be quite odd to ignore what happening at the moment.

True and has won awards for her writing. Well done her but she's hardly a woman of the people. Just as Johnson isn't a man of the people.

Fair enough. I'll lay off now Grin
longwayoff · 25/01/2022 20:46

and? I feel you're you're convinced you're making a salient point. Should I not read her because she doesn't carry her own pick axe and isnt the daughter of Dennis Skinner?

Notonthestairs · 25/01/2022 20:52

I think Matt Green sets out some of the issues Dexra alludes to (don't think it altogether dovetails with MH in this instance but it's v funny)

Flowertailbird · 25/01/2022 20:53

@derxa she writes what the majority of us are thinking. She is able to read a room. Unlike Johnson.

truthfullylying · 25/01/2022 20:57

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm suffering from an ongoing case of acute schadenfreude 😄
oh yes me too Smile

I particularly enjoyed the detail today that whilst Johnson had been told about the Met's decision, he didn't tell the cabinet at their meeting (wtf?), so they all left and were pounced on by journalists - hahahaha!!

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 21:03

Well done her but she's hardly a woman of the people.

I don't think she pretends to, does she? She mocks politicians - of whatever party is in power.

Not like Johnson, or Farage.

The thought "How to Win Friends and Influence People"comes to mind. I bet they felt right pratts (as well as being right pratts.)

Perfect Grin It's the incestuousness (I know it's not a word) I can't stand. And yes the Westminster bubble. I almost weep when I see dear old Gordon Brown on GMB reminding us of starvation in Afghanistan and food poverty here.

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 21:07

No wonder Nadine Dorries looked mutinous then! Why didn't he tell them ?
Too cowardly ?

Boris's g grandfather, a politician, met an unfortunate end in Turkey. He probably likes to keep a bit of distance when breaking bad news. Maybe that's why he tries to avoid doing so if at all possible .

Notonthestairs · 25/01/2022 21:19

I agree Derxa - we need some serious, honourable politicians up front. I don't care how dour they appear or boring they actually are.

Omg, he's such a prat! 🤦‍♀️

Notonthestairs · 25/01/2022 21:30

I assume he thought one of them would leak it. Not much trust is there?

I thought it was Hancock who was caught feeling prats?

Heck this thread is going to be full by morning. Please someone start another while I sleep and share where it is.

Ambushed by cake! Well that takes the biscuit.

The nosedive must be nearly over now.

Yes that's the nub of it. But snake oil salesmen will always win.
TheHateIsNotGood · 25/01/2022 22:29

The cleverest, most intelligent people I have ever known are those that do stuff with their hands like build stone walls, lay hedges. sort out our electrics and collect our waste.

They have a great wit about them.

Most journos are from the same privileged 'ilk' as the politicians they write about but they can't face the scrutiny of being an actual politician themselves, after all, you'd have to be a bit wierdish to even contemplate being an MP nowadays.

Luckily I pay little attention to any of them and just get on with doing. Life goes on....

Why do you look down on journalists? without which, the politicians would get away with absolutely anything they like?

Starmer didn't and most certainly Rayner didn't.

I doubt there is any hard evidence Journalists have had a privileged upbringing?

Act with decency and honour, then the media cannot dig anything up on you.....
