Claudine I understand that procedure dictates that the report will still need to go via the Prime Minister and he will have final say of whether/how much is published.

I think it will be published in part, anything to be investigated by the Met left out and they'll try to argue (again) that we must move on.

Blossomtoes · 25/01/2022 16:05

More from the wonderful Marina for the delight and delectation of (most of) us.

"Has some tear opened up in the time-chintz continuum?" 🤣

Marina completely skewers Call-Me-Churchill in that piece. Brilliant.

ThinkingAboutItTomorrow:
This government set rules for others that they didn't think mattered to them

Apart from Johnson, I don't think (m)any members of the government have been identified at these events. The vast majority of party-goers seem to be civil servants.

Of course, one or other of the investigations may reveal Nadine Dorries and Jacob Rees-Mogg having a knees up, but we do not yet know.

Florianus · 25/01/2022 16:32

Trilley:
The police can't conclusively clear anyone of criminality. If they decide not to prosecute, all that says is that the CPS doesn't think there is at least a 50% chance of persuading a jury that they are guilty beyond reasonable doubt

Breaking Covid regulations attract fixed penalty fines, not jury trials.

The problem is that, as pointed out, we're potentially moving beyond breaking Covid rules to, at the very least, misconduct in public office.

To say nothing of what they might find if they actually start investigating the blatant corruption of Johnson and his cronies.

@JaniieJones even No 10 aren't trying to argue that the birthday party was a work event/reasonably required for the purposes of work! You are barking up the wrong tree there. They've effectively admitted that an offence was committed.

Agree that there's strong prima facie evidence of misconduct in public office

the80sweregreat · 25/01/2022 16:53

Lots of people were working during the pandemic lockdowns, loads, but they didn't all get together for a party after work ( or even during it ) they even had ' covid police ' who removed things that could transmit the disease and made sure people stayed 2m apart etc. Yet intelligent people couldn't do this or at least try !!

Who's "we"? In any case, as I have said before, the people charged in almost every case of breaking covid regulations are those who organised the party or other event concerned. The police don't fine those who merely attended, however much you might hope otherwise.

And, before the usual suspects start up, that's not "defending Johnson", it is simply stating what has happened in numerous other cases.

Roussette · 25/01/2022 17:09

Pippa Crerar indicates that the Sue Grey report will be issued tonight.
And published tomorrow

UnicornsReal · 25/01/2022 17:09

Did anyone see the Kirsty Wark show last night? There was an odious man trying desperately to defend him. Clearly saw nothing at all wrong with Boris telling the whole nation to do something he wasn't prepared to implement among his staff or adhere to himself.

That was Peter Bone. He’s an absolute laughing stock. The fact that they were reduced to having to wheel him out on Newsnight is the perfect illustration of the depth of their desperation.

I bet their wives and interior designers didn't pop in to see them at work party or no party.
Florianus · 25/01/2022 17:16

Agree that there's strong prima facie evidence of misconduct in public office*

Even the Met would regard that as ridiculous, disproportionate overkill for attending parties. It would be laughed out of court. In any case, it is difficult to bring successful prosecutions under the law (as Theresa May found to her relief) as much in the act is highly subjective.

UnicornsReal · 25/01/2022 17:17

i felt really angry listening to his complete inability to accept that the public might be really disgusted with Boris. So out of touch with the electorate it's untrue.

itsgettingweird · 25/01/2022 17:17

The biggest issue with things like this is the people against whom complaints are made are also responsible in investigating them.

We had the same at my sons academy. They broke policy. They investigate the complaint. Despite emails and evidence found themselves not guilty. Explained away things in the most stupid wordy manner. But you can't complain about the content of the response. Only if the investigation and complaint procedure was mishandled or not followed properly.

My friends dd who is solicitor read all my paperwork. She said this type of set up would be laughable if it wasn't so dangerous.

And guess which party set up this type of school and unaccountability to the La?

The big wigs of our country have been set up to have no accountability slowly but surely over the years through semi and full privatisation.

Florianus · 25/01/2022 17:27

@Roussette

Pippa Crerar indicates that the Sue Grey report will be issued tonight. And published tomorrow
In the Daily Mirror, Pippa Crerar is saying that the report may be published "in days". Other media are saying "later this week".

As I mentioned, the rise of 24-hour news means that reports of current events are often confused or contradictory.

Peregrina · 25/01/2022 17:39

So out of touch with the electorate it's untrue.

Maybe recent by election losses of ultra safe seats may help concentrate their minds. And no, I haven't forgotten the seats that they won.

Now photos have been handed to the Met of Bozo and some booze and or people with booze.

longwayoff · 25/01/2022 17:47

janiiejones could you drop a line to Cressida Dick? I expect she'd welcome your convincing evidence, seems a shame to waste it on a sadly unappreciative MN.

ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 17:49

"It will I am told be a report that will make for very uncomfortable reading for the PM and Tory MPs. It is a description of the parties" this is from Peston.

Yes, Sam Coates latest tweet

Sky News understands that officials have handed over to investigators photos of parties in Downing Street which include images of Boris Johnson
Sue Gray was given the pictures of people close together with wine bottles.
More images of Boris Johnson could be released imminently if Sue Gray puts them in her report which could be handed to Downing Street soon

ClaudineClare · 25/01/2022 17:54

It is fun watching all the Johnson apologists melting down on Twitter.
