to think this vinted seller was rude?

I saw a bag on Vinted and made an offer on it. The seller declined the offer. I messaged the seller 'What price would you accept for the bag?'. She replied saying 'If you don't say hello, I will not sell it to you :)'. Then she blocked me from buying the item. AIBU to think she was rude?

Why not start with Hello, or Hi there - it's just being polite?

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 13:34

@FluffyBooBoo I fail to see what was rude about the fact I did not say 'hello' in my first message. I have done that with many other sellers and they have never responded like she did. I message my friends and family saying 'hello' but I don't see the need to say 'hello' on vinted.

@Marble2021 some posters will want you flogged on your knees repenting your crimes. Better luck next time on Vinted. I've tried Thrift recently, but going to look at Vinted now too.

arethereanyleftatall · 09/01/2022 13:37

Well, it's entirely up to you op. It's clearly cutting off your nose to spite your face, but you do you. Many posters have told you they find it rude, some do not. So, you can carry on doing as you do, and accept that an occasional seller will decide they don't want to sell to you, which is up to them. Or, you can start saying hello, and being polite, and everyone will want to sell to you. It is entirely up to you.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 13:38

I sometimes do message sellers on vinted saying hello but I sometimes do not. None of them have had a problem with it except that seller.

Fucking hell. Really?!? Are people actually this precious?

Something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. What’s with all the emotional fluff for a business transaction between strangers? Just get to the point.

I’m with you OP

Enough4me · 09/01/2022 13:45

@Marble2021 do you ever wonder if people having a bad day come on here to vent, and not only will they come on here to tell you they think you are wrong, but they want to push you to admit your failure as a human and beg for forgiveness?
Maybe it would brighten their day.

Wotagain · 09/01/2022 13:47

The seller wasn’t being rude. She was just stating a fact.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 13:48

@DrJakes because I do not see the need for saying hello on vinted.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 13:49

@Wotagain So blocking me and refusing to sell to me was not rude? FML

Notice the posters here aren't saying hello to you OP at the start of their posts.
Almost like some communication doesn't need a hello at the start.
Next we'll all need to XOXO each other Wink

arethereanyleftatall · 09/01/2022 13:54

One more time for those at the back.

It doesn't matter if you don't think it's rude op. She does. That's the entire point. She is selling it. She makes the decision who she sells to, and what criteria she sets. Not you.

DrJakes · 09/01/2022 13:56

So she sounds like someone who observes life's little courtesies, and as you say, you like to get straight to the point. You are clearly different. Why does that make her rude?

SoupDragon · 09/01/2022 13:56
@arethereanyleftatall It took her more time to send the reply than ignore me or say '3 euros', didn't it?
Not as much time as it's taking you to complain 😂😂

northernbutterfly · 09/01/2022 13:58

There are clearly two tribes on online marketplaces - one who thinks communication should be similar to normal life and one who thinks it's more like a transaction with a computer. I don't know which is right but clearly the two won't agree

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 13:59

@DrJakes because she blocked me. She could have ignored the message

Perhaps the seller expected

"Hi there dahling,

Gosh, it would be totesamazeballs if I could buy your cheeky little xxx (item) it looks truly glorious and would improve my life experience no end if I could have it. Would you possibly accept £x amount for it? If it's not quite enough, then we could always negotiate a price which would be mutually acceptable to both of us.

Lots of love, hugs and kisses etc." 🥰

What you must remember @Marble2021 is that only people with very important special serious concerns are allowed to create threads on Mumsnet. It’s not as if threads are free to create and limitless in quantity, or people could just press their back button if they’re not interested in the topic…

Is there an app to generate that? It would save so much time, my typing is slow and shite and full of spelling mistakes.
Curiousmouse · 09/01/2022 14:36

I made an offer on an eBay item last week for £6 below asking price of £46. The response was a counter offer of £5000. No kidding.

Why do sellers bother putting items on "make an offer" they're going to take offence when you do.
