to think this vinted seller was rude?

I saw a bag on Vinted and made an offer on it. The seller declined the offer. I messaged the seller 'What price would you accept for the bag?'. She replied saying 'If you don't say hello, I will not sell it to you :)'. Then she blocked me from buying the item. AIBU to think she was rude?

Out of interest, I looked back at my old messages where I’ve had offers rejected with no counter-offer. Not one of the items has subsequently sold.

FluffyBooBoo · 09/01/2022 12:40
@FluffyBooBoo Well I would have paid full price if she had not agreed to my offer. So more fool her.
Fairly sure she won't lose any sleep over €3.

Eustonhalf · 09/01/2022 12:40

Hmmm if someone offered less than the asking price, was refused and then demanded to know what I'd take for it without so much as a greeting, they wouldn't seem personable to me. Manners are free. It might or might not matter depending on how much I cared!

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:42

@IamGusFring I am only rude in retaliation to people being rude to me.

OP posts:
Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:44

@FluffyBooBoo And I won't lose any sleep over not getting her item. If she did not ever care about the 3 euros, then why did she not just give it to charity?

Swaps are great. I prefer this to buying new 😊 makes me feel like I'm doing a small good in the world.
Me too. Our local frock exchanges had a handful of Joe Brown dresses this week. I've never tried any of them. I now own 3, 2 still have the tags on, and I paid £40. Very pleased with that!

Vinted swaps sound.like.my kind of thing. I have a few 'posh' frocks to move on!

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:47

The bag and many of the seller's have been on there for years now. Items from good brands and in good condition. I wonder why no one has bought from her? hmm...

She didn't agree to your offer, you didn't offer to pay full price, instead you tried to haggle over LESS THAN A EURO.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:50

@slashlover So what if I did? Have you ever read my posts?? Her problem was not the offer I made, it was the fact I did not say 'hello' in my first message.

OP posts:
AreSomeGoldfishJustDicks · 09/01/2022 12:52

I can't believe people are still going on about these low offers.

Please read the full thread before posting such strong opinions, it's really annoying to read.

@HoardingSamphireSaurus
That's awesome. I'm tempted to start something like that around my area, a swap shop or something 😊

I've read your posts, I think that your offer of 1/3 off the original price then trying to haggle over less than a Euro riled her. Your lack f greeting was the final straw.

Now waiting for "Have you ever used Vinted!!!1!"

chaosrabbitland · 09/01/2022 12:55

i think you should have just offered her the asking price , i think the reason she got funny with you was because she thought you were going to start haggling with her , rather than just saying i will pay you the price you want .

im quite blunt and straightforward so the answer you would have got from me to your question was the full asking price i want for it lol
i do think she was playing silly buggers about the not saying hello business though
if i was selling somehting and someone message and said would you take 5 less for it , than i would answer yes or no , i wouldnt expect them to say hello to me first .

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:56

@slashlover I have done the same thing with many sellers and they have never been rude me. I also notice that those sellers often sell many of their items whereas the seller's items have been on there for years. I can't think why.....

OP posts:
Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:58

So why did she not just say 'I want three euros for it'??? There was no need for her to be rude.

@NewModelArmyMayhem18

Well thereby lies the problem. It really can't be worthwhile for two or three Euros? So quibbling over a Euro (when the price is so cheap to start with) is really not on?
This is the beauty of Vinted though - it's very easy to list and sell in volume. The platform does a lot of the work for sellers and buyers and shipping is very easy so selling items for £3/4 is worthwhile. You can store your earnings on the app and bank when they hit a threshold so it's not like £3 hitting your account at a time and disappearing. It means items with plenty of life in are reused rather than going into landfill too which is a good thing.

Then why do so many people on this thread think she should be losing her shit over €1?

@FluffyBooBoo Yet many people on this thread think she was upset over selling it for 2 euros instread of 3?? erm ok then ...

OP posts:
Thelnebriati · 09/01/2022 13:09

Why are people ignoring the fact that Vinted and ebay put the 'Hi' in for you automatically at the start of the message?

arethereanyleftatall · 09/01/2022 13:09

@Marble2021

So why did she not just say 'I want three euros for it'??? There was no need for her to be rude.
Because that's a waste of her time. She'd already said the item was £3. I'm with the seller tbh. Time is money. I'm not about to get in to a five minute discussion with someone over one euro. I run a business, so would make hundreds of transactions in a day. If each transaction wants to take an extra 5 minutes over each sale, that's 500 minutes.

Anyway, it's up to her, she's selling the item. So your opinion is moot. She's decided she's doesn't want to sell to you. So, 'I'm not going to give her my money' is pointless as she's already decided she doesn't want it.

One of my favourite things about running my own business, is being alble to say to people I don't like 'sorry, I'm full my booked.' Even when I'm not.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 13:11

@arethereanyleftatall Yes, time is money. However she managed to take the time and send me a rude response, didn't she? She clearly did not see sending a rude reply and blocking me as a waste of her time, now did she? If she didn't want to waste any time, she could have easily ignored my message.

OP posts:
Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 13:12

@arethereanyleftatall It took her more time to send the reply than ignore me or say '3 euros', didn't it?

Yet you keep repeating that it wasn't about the money, it was about the lack of a hello.

Erm ok then ...

Enough4me · 09/01/2022 13:14

I occassional sell through FB and receive lovely messages, "hi, please can I have for £x", to blunt "£5, I can collect tomorrow".

If I receive several replies at one time and one is friendlier I go with my bias that they probably want it more. Aside from that, if something isn't selling I'd rather negotiate and don't need hellos. It's just a transaction.
