to think this vinted seller was rude?

I saw a bag on Vinted and made an offer on it. The seller declined the offer. I messaged the seller 'What price would you accept for the bag?'. She replied saying 'If you don't say hello, I will not sell it to you :)'. Then she blocked me from buying the item. AIBU to think she was rude?

Only one person here was rude, and it wasn't the seller.

It's one thing when a response is automated and you just clock on a pre-determined response (eg FBs "Is this still available?" etc options that pop up on selling posts) and so you don't have the opportunity to add pleasantries but I think it is rude to message anyone without at least Hi/Hello and please/thank you.

The fact that you offered such a minor sum less than the asking price and then messaged abruptly to ask what she would accept (hint: €1 more than your offer, ie the price stated in the ad) without so much as a "Hello" first probably had her thinking you were rude and going to be awkward so she decided to shut down any further interaction by telling you that she wouldn't sell the item to you.

PooPooPongDelong · 09/01/2022 11:13

You offered one euro less? That's just ridiculous I'd have blocked you too as a game player
What a stupid thing to do

Whinge · 09/01/2022 11:13

I offered 1 euro less than the item price

That's just odd. Especially as you then asked what price she would accept, knowing she had listed it for only 1 euro more. 🙄

MorningStarling · 09/01/2022 11:13

If you offer one euro less it makes you look like the troublesome sort of customer who will cause problems, for example when the bag arrives you'll claim there's something wrong with it and demand further money off. The perception is the sort of person who argues over such a paltry amount is the sort of person who'll leave negative feedback because the DHL driver turned up two minutes before the website said he would.

Saying she's not interested in selling to you because you're rude is an easy way out for her, rather than explaining that she thinks you're a troublemaker.

AreSomeGoldfishJustDicks · 09/01/2022 11:14

Obviously you don't know how Vinted works so offering 1 euro less is not rude or "game playing" ffs.

AreSomeGoldfishJustDicks · 09/01/2022 11:14

To posters above.

Restart10 · 09/01/2022 11:14

I hate this. It's costs you nothing to have manners. I'm on another group where people really benefit from advice (legal) and the amount of rude people with no manners! There's legal experts who take the time to provide free advice and details and you will get people respond with "And what's the next step". There's no please and thank you, so so rude.

gsaoej · 09/01/2022 11:16

I definitely think you should have said hello
But I would not have refused the sale

Preeeettyprettygood · 09/01/2022 11:17

You offered 1 euro less and then asked how much she's accept?

Confused

What's the point in offering 1 Euro less? Confused
Preeeettyprettygood · 09/01/2022 11:17

*she'd

SlashBeef · 09/01/2022 11:18

Why did you ask what she would accept if you'd only offered 1 euro less?! Surely the only answer is 1 euro more than your offer.
I'd be a bit fed up with you too OP. It comes across as time-wasting shenanigans.

AreSomeGoldfishJustDicks · 09/01/2022 11:19

@Whinge because most items are sold for under £10 so it's standard practise to ask for 1 or 2 quid off. There's an automated button for it.
It's just how Vinted works. I don't know why 😆

Whinge · 09/01/2022 11:21

@Preeeettyprettygood

Yeah it's a really odd thing to do.

I understand trying to get a bit off, but 1 Euro isn't worth haggling over. Then when the offer was declined there was no need to ask what price the seller wanted, as it was already listed.

AreSomeGoldfishJustDicks · 09/01/2022 11:24

Hopefully there's a picture attached.

Just for reference. I've blanked out identifying info.
But you can see the seller has sent an offer £2 less than asking.
Let's not get started on the "can post tomorrow" messages.
Everyone is rude and abrupt.

Sorry for weighing in op, just don't want you getting a hard time unnecessarily.

I'll remember to delete it from my list then

That sounds bloody annoying. Useless!

Lou98 · 09/01/2022 11:25

If you only offered 1 euro less than the asking price, why on earth did you then ask what price she would accept? The asking price surely.

I started off thinking you weren't BU but now I'm thinking she probably thought you were a bit off and didn't want the hassle of the sale

AreSomeGoldfishJustDicks · 09/01/2022 11:26

@HoardingSamphireSaurus probably a good idea, it's an awful app! I'm in too deep unfortunately 😂.

usernameshistory · 09/01/2022 11:26

I have been buying and selling online for decades and it really isn't deemed rude to dive straight into the question. I hate bully sellers - that's not in the spirit of it. It is assumed that whilst using the same platform it is already convivial.

usernameshistory · 09/01/2022 11:27

I haven't used this one though Halo

Thank you 😉😂

@Sux2Buthen

God no, the less chat the better
Yes this! I don't want to chat to someone, I want to sell my stuff.
Ninkanink · 09/01/2022 11:35

Why on earth would you offer one euro less? You’re taking the piss doing that. It probably got her back up.

Ninkanink · 09/01/2022 11:37

Oh I see, so it’s a bigger proportion of the asking price which makes a bit more sense. Fair enough.
