to think this vinted seller was rude?

I saw a bag on Vinted and made an offer on it. The seller declined the offer. I messaged the seller 'What price would you accept for the bag?'. She replied saying 'If you don't say hello, I will not sell it to you :)'. Then she blocked me from buying the item. AIBU to think she was rude?

Thats crazy, ebay let you set the minimum for offers so why don't they just fill it in instead of getting annoyed?

WeDontTalkAboutBruno · 09/01/2022 14:46

I use Vinted a lot and must admit I have never made an offer on anything under £10, I just click buy.
In fact I don’t think I’ve ever had an offer for anything I’ve sold either.

EBay can be weird with their best offers, made one for an item a few weeks ago. Start price was £150 and I offered £200. No response at all. Eventually won it via auction for the start price. Paid via PayPal and waited for instructions to collect. Took the seller almost a week to reply when shock of shocks, the item had been ‘stolen’. Reported to eBay and left feedback referencing the item and it’s stolen status so they won’t be resisting on that account in a hurry 😂

People are weird.
@Wotagain So blocking me and refusing to sell to me was not rude? FML
No, not rude, she is under no obligation to trade with you, and can set her own rules.
And there is no need for you to FML at me. That is rude. And uncouth.

I’ve never bought anything without making an offer.

Enough4me · 09/01/2022 16:24

I have to laugh at posters telling OP she doesn't have problems as she's on here, as though they know her, when if she didn't reply they would no doubt complain too.

OP, have you taken your lashings yet and gone through your hail Mary's to repent the crime of the century?

I don't understand the people who ask for tiny amounts off already cheap items either. I listed a lot of clothes for £2/3 and people constantly offered £1 less. Also had someone upset about missing out because someone had paid the asking price before I had seen their offer for £1 less. 😂 Also had a few fairly cheeky offers on brand new items (along the lines of offering £8 on a £25 item I've listed for £15), I don't usually bother with those.
Butchyrestingface · 09/01/2022 17:02

I can't understand trying to haggle £1 off a £3 item when by OP's own admission, she was willing to pay full price in the first place.

Whyyyyyyyy? Fully prepared for someone to come along and tell me that's my rich colonialist privilege talking and/or that I don't understand the ethos of Vinted.

Noodledoodledoo · 09/01/2022 17:07

@AsYouWishButtercup

It’s a bit rude.

I refused to give someone my (free) coffee table the other day because I just got a message of ‘send me your address’ Hmm

@AsYouWishButtercup thats polite all I got recently was 'address'
Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 17:08

@Butchyrestingface because I wanted to see if I could get money off before paying full price.

Yes, I get what you were trying to do - but I don't understand why when the asking price was so low in the first place. I would think that approach was likely to alienate some sellers (although I've seen posts that it's common on Vinted).

Is it something you do routinely, regardless of asking price? I don't use Vinted myself.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 17:22

@Butchyrestingface Yes, I often make offers of a few euros less. I never get sellers responding rudely.
@PooPooPongDelong You have obviously never used vinted, have you?
I have so nah !

IamGusFring · 09/01/2022 18:12

In the absence of the diagram can we have a pic of the said bag to assess whether it is indeed worth 2 or 3 Euros?

StrangeLookingParasite · 09/01/2022 19:40
@Whinge because most items are sold for under £10 so it's standard practise to ask for 1 or 2 quid off. There's an automated button for it.
It's just how Vinted works. I don't know why 😆
I use Vinted for nearly everything now, as eBay seems to have died. Almost nothing I have eithr bought or sold has been for under 10€.
And I have had some rude, rude offers - 55€ for something new priced at 90€, which cost 170€.

Enough4me · 09/01/2022 19:53

Again, for those asking why OP offered less, it's because it's usual to negotiate and make offers on the Vinted site. OP has explained this and others who use the site have agreed. The seller did not complain about the offer, she complained, when there had already been communication that the OP didn't start with hello at the start of OPs second message.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 20:00

@Enough4me Exactly my point thank you :)

What’s haggling for £1 got to do with colonialism?!

Whyyyyyyyy? Fully prepared for someone to come along and tell me that's my rich colonialist privilege talking and/or that I don't understand the ethos of Vinted.

But whyyyyyyyy are you confused? The OP was willing to pay full price if she had to, but she thought she’d try to get a discount first. What’s hard to understand?

Is it because the amount is so low? Would you find it more acceptable if she offered €24 on a €30 item? I get that €1 isn’t a lot, but if the OP regularly buys items at a €1 - €3 discount each time, that soon adds up. I’m not sure where colonialism comes into it, but it shouldn’t be that hard to understand that people shopping for second hand items might be looking for ways to save money?

I’m also confused as to why €1 is a tiny, insignificant amount for a buyer, and that the OP is a disgrace for trying to negotiate, but for the seller it’s somehow a fortune? If a euro is worthless, why didn’t the seller just accept the OP’s offer to guarantee herself a sale? No one seems to think the seller is unreasonable for rejecting an offer of €1 below asking price - yet the OP is somehow a piece of work for making said offer.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 21:12

@Butchyrestingface because I often buy items on vinted and if I get small discounts each time that money adds up.I fail to see what is wrong with offering 1 euro less.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 21:13

@WomanStanleyWoman That is exactly my point. No idea why it is so difficult for people to understand.

Did I say the OP was a 'disgrace'? Jesus Christ.
