to think this vinted seller was rude?

I saw a bag on Vinted and made an offer on it. The seller declined the offer. I messaged the seller 'What price would you accept for the bag?'. She replied saying 'If you don't say hello, I will not sell it to you :)'. Then she blocked me from buying the item. AIBU to think she was rude?

@slashlover

Excuse me? How the fuck does that make me a nut? The bag cost 3 euros and I offered 2 euros. So what??

What did you expect as an answer to your second question? 2.50 Euros?

Yes. And if she did not want that, I would have paid full price. Have you ever even used vinted?

@Ninkanink

Oh I see, so it’s a bigger proportion of the asking price which makes a bit more sense. Fair enough.
The asking price was 3 euros and I offered her two euros

I think she overreacted a bit. I sell on vinted and I couldn’t care less if people say hello or not. We are buying and selling, usually as a one off, not trying to make friends or business partnerships.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 09/01/2022 12:22

Well thereby lies the problem. It really can't be worthwhile for two or three Euros? So quibbling over a Euro (when the price is so cheap to start with) is really not on?

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:23

@AreSomeGoldfishJustDicks

I sell on Vinted and this is how it works. Items are normally sold for a couple of quid. Sellers will say "offers welcome". Offers are normally 1 or 2 quid under the asking price, that's just how it works. Also you press a button and put in your offer which automatically sends a message to the seller saying "Hi! Would you sell this for £4" for example.

You were not rude, she sounds strange.

Exactly. :)

Because it's so petty and tight. And in a moment someone will be along with the full price.

And I didn't say anything about CF. That's a very tired and tedious Mumsnetism that I would never use.
Well if you’re so sure someone will be along with the full price in a moment, why not just reject the lower offer and wait? Why make a big performance of blocking someone who dared to offer lower?

The other thing about Vinted is that, unlike eBay, there’s no time limit on a listing. If your item has been listed for a day and you get a low offer, then yes, a higher one may be along ‘in a moment’. If it’s been up for a month, three months or even a year, maybe it’s time to write off €1.

Have you ever even used vinted? No? Well, a lot of items are on there for under 10 euros. It's normal to offer a few euros less than the asking price/

So you’re basically saying the entire concept of Vinted is flawed?
HoardingSamphireSaurus · 09/01/2022 12:25
@HoardingSamphireSaurus probably a good idea, it's an awful app! I'm in too deep unfortunately 😂.
I had it linked for a spring clear out. I may think again.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:26

Her problem was not that I lowered my offer. Her problem was that I did not say 'Hello'. If her problem was that I offered 1 euro less, then she would have said that in the message, wouldn't she?

OP posts:
Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:28

@sweetbellyhigh You do that then. You still won't have sold your item.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:29

@HoardingSamphireSaurus . Why I am a nut then doctor? Read the full thread and then answer me. You have obviously never used vinted.

@HoardingSamphireSaurus
The issue I have with it is, to get real views and sales on your item you need to pay for the wardrobe spotlight which is £6.95 per week.
Otherwise your items will get lost as more people add.
Also, you will be bombarded with stupid offers and sob stories.
If you favourite something then you will be bombarded with messages of " u interested?" "Are you gonna buy?" " I can post today" .

People don't like to pay a huge amount but the swapping part can be quite good.

That's my experience anyway 😊 but as I said, I am in deep, I've been doing it for a few years now and im addicted 😂.

Ileflottante · 09/01/2022 12:32

I suspect by saying she offered one euro less, the OP thought it would help make her seem the more reasonable one. It has however, backfired spectacularly.

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:32

@PooPooPongDelong You have obviously never used vinted, have you?

OP posts:
HoardingSamphireSaurus · 09/01/2022 12:32

I have read it, have commented again and explained I have looked at it, bookmarked it for use.

I shall lose the bookmark. It sounds fucking awful. Like you are encouraged to be like the "Only if you deliver it" comments on free Facebook listings.

And, having read more reviews, it looks like a real shit fest for sellers.

IamGusFring · 09/01/2022 12:33

The fact that it was 3 Euros and you offered 2 makes it even more ludicrous. All this for 1 Euro . How do you even make money on that ? I'm not familiar with Vinted although I have looked at it a few times as I've seen it referenced on Style and beauty. Things are either really cheap - like this or way too expensive . I use E Bay to sell and have had great sales on there .

Thanks. That makes a bit more sense of some of the reviews I have read.

I might look again at the swaps though. Smile

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:35

@IamGusFring Her problem was not my low offer ffs. It was the fact I did not say hello. Read my posts.

OP posts:
onedayoranother · 09/01/2022 12:35

God I can't stand the 'hi how are you' crap. It's business. She may be miffed but to stop a potential sale? How short sighted.

FluffyBooBoo · 09/01/2022 12:37

but since the seller was so rude she is not getting my money

I thought she wasn't getting your money because she blocked you....

Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:37

@onedayoranother I agree.

OP posts:
Marble2021 · 09/01/2022 12:38

@FluffyBooBoo Well I would have paid full price if she had not agreed to my offer. So more fool her.

Swaps are great. I prefer this to buying new 😊 makes me feel like I'm doing a small good in the world.

I have read all your posts and I think we can see who is the rude person .
