To want the £10?

Advertised an old big unit on Facebook market place for £10, very clear it’s £10 on the post.
Arranged for someone to collect it when I was at work but DH at home.
Person arrives and tells DH that it’s free, he says ‘oh is it? Are you sure?’, and she said it was definitely advertised as free so he let her take it.

It was old, and slightly damaged, but something that could easily be painted over/done up.

AIBU to be pissed off she didn’t pay when it was clearly advertised in the post as £10 and she lied to my husband?
It’s only £10, it doesn’t make a difference to my life at all, it’s more the principle!

I did actually message her after and explain it clearly said £10 in the post but of course she hasn’t replied!

YANBU but you’ll never see that money again.

Your DH is a bit of a twit, btw…

HumunaHey · 01/01/2022 14:17

What a CF. I would publicly shame her on Facebook. Tag her name. It's almost theft.

shouldistop · 01/01/2022 14:17

She was a CF but I don't understand why you didn't mention the price to your DH.
You're not going to get the money now.

AnyoneForFondue · 01/01/2022 14:18

YANBU but I think you’ll have to put this down to experience. Not sure why your husband didn’t check!

HumunaHey · 01/01/2022 14:18

Also, why didn't your DH ask for proof? She could have shown your online conversation.

Cardio101 · 01/01/2022 14:19

I did mention the price to my DH! When she said it was free he believed her because it had some damage to it so thought I had changed my mind and just wanted to give it away!
Agree he was being a twit…

I’d shame her publicly on Facebook.

Well he's a numpty then
Russelhobskettle · 01/01/2022 14:21

You mentioned the price to your DH. He could have rung you to check. He owes you £10 Grin

girlmom21 · 01/01/2022 14:21

It's definitely his fault, not hers. If he wasn't sure he should have called you. Are you certain he didn't just not ask for the money?

Sirzy · 01/01/2022 14:22

The issue is your husband. She chanced asking for it for free he agreed to let her take it

purpleme12 · 01/01/2022 14:23

This is his fault!!
You should be blaming your DH not her! (Unless you didn't tell DH you were expecting money??)

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 01/01/2022 14:23

I'd put a public message about this on the group asking for your £10. Then it warns others about this person.

Cardio101 · 01/01/2022 14:25

She’s just blocked me on FB too!

He's been a twit, but how is it not the fault of the person who lied and said it had been advertised for free? They've carried out the deception. The husband just fell for it. How is he worse?

Sirzy · 01/01/2022 14:25

You can’t shame someone publicly for taking something for free when they where given it for free!

Yes she was cheeky to ask but he still agreed.

lexi873 · 01/01/2022 14:25

Facebook selling is full of chancers, same happened to my bro and his gf, just my bro was home when the buyer turned up and tried to tell my bro she’d already paid, so he rang his gf and she confirmed it was cash on collection Hmm
Think you’re going to have to write this one off, I’m pretty sure she’s not going to reply to your messages.

purpleme12 · 01/01/2022 14:27

Ok sorry I misread earlier
It is the buyer's fault

She didn't ask though. She lied and said it had been advertised for free. There's a difference.

She didn't 'ask', she lied to him about the advert. You can say he was gullible to take her word for it, but lying is different to asking for something. And it's wrong.
Passthecake30 · 01/01/2022 14:32

If she’s desperate enough to lie about £10, and you don’t need the money, I’d let it go. And chalk it up to one of life’s lessons.

Well it's not her wife who's trusted her with the really simple task of giving someone a piece of furniture in exchange for a tenner, is it?

It's her fault she lied but his fault OP is out of pocket.

jackstini · 01/01/2022 14:34

Definitely post on the selling page - don't think you will ever get the £10 but it might stop her cheating someone else!

This. What an absolute CF. I'd say name and shame but I probably would be too much of a wimp to do it myself.
5keletor · 01/01/2022 14:35

She is in the wrong, very much so, however there's no way you're getting the £10, no matter what you do.
In situations like this we would always tell each other what it sold for, and I, in particular, am annoying in making sure he definitely knows the price until he's rolling his eyes at the amount of times I've mentioned it!
There are some cheeky people about, I've stopped selling things on Facebook. Even free for collection items, you can't always trust people to turn up.
