To want the £10?

Advertised an old big unit on Facebook market place for £10, very clear it’s £10 on the post.
Arranged for someone to collect it when I was at work but DH at home.
Person arrives and tells DH that it’s free, he says ‘oh is it? Are you sure?’, and she said it was definitely advertised as free so he let her take it.

It was old, and slightly damaged, but something that could easily be painted over/done up.

AIBU to be pissed off she didn’t pay when it was clearly advertised in the post as £10 and she lied to my husband?
It’s only £10, it doesn’t make a difference to my life at all, it’s more the principle!

I did actually message her after and explain it clearly said £10 in the post but of course she hasn’t replied!

She was in the wrong but there's nothing you can do about it now although if I knew where she lived I'd be tempted to let her tyres down so just chalk it up to experience and don't waste any more headspace on the dastardly creature.

Hopefully karma will bite her in the ass.

blubberyboo · 01/01/2022 15:33

It’s not DH fault

It’s the same as if someone walked into a shop changed the price tags and insisted to a shop assistant that this is the agreed price.

She’s a liar and a thief

SpeedRunParent · 01/01/2022 15:37

Chalk it up to experience. No point getting yourself upset about something that isn't going to change.

Georgeskitchen · 01/01/2022 15:41

Hopefully the item has woodworm which will go on to infest her entire house 🤣🤣

girlmom21 · 01/01/2022 15:43

@LynetteScavo I asked what you'd do, not him.

If someone knocked on my door and said DP had told them they could have something free that I knew he was either selling or that he hadn't expressed any intention of getting rid of, I'd check with him.

It's not victim blaming to suggest someone should use a bit of common sense.

SeasonFinale · 01/01/2022 15:45

Name and Shame on her on the site you advertised also explaining that she has since blocked you, notify the admins and they most likely will remove her from the group.

Fairyliz · 01/01/2022 15:58

Well you husband has a little bit of blame, but surely she is the thief?

CheshireKitten123 · 01/01/2022 16:00

@ChaToilLeam

YANBU but you’ll never see that money again.

Your DH is a bit of a twit, btw…

This ^

Next time don't let DH deal with this sort of stuff Hmm

Roselilly36 · 01/01/2022 16:00

Absolutely a CF, probably laughing her socks off and planning to resell it soon. Can’t believe your DH fell for it though, why would he have believed her, over you?

IncompleteSenten · 01/01/2022 16:02

Post on the FB page she found you on and warn people.

Bloodypunkrockers · 01/01/2022 16:03

@purpleme12

This is his fault!! You should be blaming your DH not her! (Unless you didn't tell DH you were expecting money??)
How ridiculous

Of course it's her fault. She's a liar and a thief

purpleme12 · 01/01/2022 16:04

@Bloodypunkrockers I've done another post actually

LessTime · 01/01/2022 16:06

I’d be so tempted to post something on Facebook? I’d warn the admin at the very least.

RedCandyApple · 01/01/2022 16:06

Very cheeky this is why I don’t bother with selling pages, I sold a pram once and the woman came to my house and said “it’s £80 isn’t it?” Handing me £80, it wasn’t, and she knew it wasn’t she was just chancing it and at that point I just wanted it gone but I remember thinking it was cheeky

HPLikecraft · 01/01/2022 16:08

Utterly bewildered by those saying it’s all the DHs fault, not the lying scammer’s.

So it’s OK to deceive if someone falls for it? And it’s your own fault if your conned? 🙄

Bloodypunkrockers · 01/01/2022 16:08
@Bloodypunkrockers I've done another post actually
Ah yes - I got to that one after I posted

Goldygold · 01/01/2022 16:10

Your DH owes you a tenner

Kanaloa · 01/01/2022 16:10

@blubberyboo

It’s not DH fault

It’s the same as if someone walked into a shop changed the price tags and insisted to a shop assistant that this is the agreed price.

She’s a liar and a thief

It’s not his fault but he could have prevented it by simply checking, just the same as your example of a shop worker. I work in a shop and if a customer said to me ‘this is half price’ I go and check, I don’t simply say ‘ok if you say so.’

She is a liar and a thief but he could easily have checked.

Freecuthbert · 01/01/2022 16:13

She's a CF clearly! But not much you can do now other than warn others on Facebook about this buyer if you wanted. But personally I'd just put it down to experience and make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm sure your DH won't make the same mistake twice!

BlueShirtGuy · 01/01/2022 16:13

I don't think it's his fault at all. Most people don't expect others to lie right to their faces.

This is the sort of thing I'd be pursuing until the end of time, just for the sport of it. Grin

mylovelydd · 01/01/2022 16:14

I don't understand why posters are saying it's your DH that's at fault for trusting the word of some woman who asserted it was free. She was the one taking the piss. Why does someone being trusting = someone being a twit? Hmm
It's a very victim blaming mentality.

adreamofspring · 01/01/2022 16:14

That lady has started her 2022 off with some seriously bad karma. Sorry your DH got scammed but be glad you’re not as fucked up as someone who would lie and steal.

minimecantrollerskate · 01/01/2022 16:17

YANBU but you won't see the money now. Your DH should have been firmer and checked with you before letting it go.

My friend just sold something on fb, left it out in her shed for collection, the person claimed that it wasn't there when they got there so she had to give them their money back. They then blocked her on fb. She involved the police but not much they can do without evidence.

PixieLaLa · 01/01/2022 16:22

I think it says a lot about the type of people who are blaming DH!

It’s her fault for lying and DH probably thought why would someone go to the effort of lying over £10! Also you should report her on FB and warn others in the group.

CharlotteGoldenblattYork · 01/01/2022 16:36

I'd be like a dog with a bone over this and would publicly name and shame her on the selling group and report to the police too. Probably not much they can do but I'd still report her.

She probably scams and steals from people on a daily basis.
