To want the £10?

Advertised an old big unit on Facebook market place for £10, very clear it’s £10 on the post.
Arranged for someone to collect it when I was at work but DH at home.
Person arrives and tells DH that it’s free, he says ‘oh is it? Are you sure?’, and she said it was definitely advertised as free so he let her take it.

It was old, and slightly damaged, but something that could easily be painted over/done up.

AIBU to be pissed off she didn’t pay when it was clearly advertised in the post as £10 and she lied to my husband?
It’s only £10, it doesn’t make a difference to my life at all, it’s more the principle!

I did actually message her after and explain it clearly said £10 in the post but of course she hasn’t replied!

At least tell the FB admins....

Nothing7 · 02/01/2022 18:48

Why is this making me rage - so bloody cheeky.
Would definitely screen shot messages on market place including name and the little pic and tell people to beware. Next time it might be someone vulnerable or in need of the cash who is ripped off

PearlyShamps · 02/01/2022 18:53

@Sirzy "You can’t shame someone publicly for taking something for free when they where given it for free!

Yes she was cheeky to ask but he still agreed."

She conned him, that's how cons work. He's a trusting person, not expecting someone stood on his doorstep to be lying to him. She's probably done it many times, and is well practiced in it. It is most definitely HER fault, not his.

You're a scary little poster.
WonderfulYou · 02/01/2022 19:01

It depends how well advertised the price was.

I’ve not been on it for a while but it used to say price - XXX and then have a photo and a description.

People often put price - FREE
And then lower down in the description the actual price.

Of course the buyer should have checked this first but I don’t think you should publicly shame her if it was a mistake.

However if it was 100% clear I would definitely post on the page and contact admins to get her deleted.

Viviennemary · 02/01/2022 19:02

You won't get your money. I wouldn't give anything away free to strangers . Too many chancers. Charity or friends. In any case your DH is as much to blame.

I had something similar years ago - I was selling a huge peppa pig toy bundle for £20 and also a different bundle of toys for £20 too. I sold the peppa pig lot to person A. Person B wanted it but I said it was sold and being collected. She then said she'd have the other items and I gave her the address to collect.

Later that day a lady came for the peppa pig stuff - it was a real bargain.

Then an hour later another lady came for the peppa pig stuff!!

Turns out the lady b who I told it was sold had tried her luck and pretended to be person a and took the stuff!!

I was so upset I'd been duped as person a got there first and I felt I'd cheated her somehow!

I would report her to Facebook. Then block her. She is a CF
Zipper666 · 02/01/2022 19:17

I went through this disposing of apartment furniture when I was moving out of the country.
Good stuff worth more was marked down to move it but they would ALWAYS want it cheaper or for free.
Sure she was a scumbag, you can only hope it drops on her and breaks some bones!

Trudij123 · 02/01/2022 19:18

What a horrible woman.

You’ll probably find it advertised again on marketplace in a few days time - you can have your fun then, I would
Wink

MarbleQueen · 02/01/2022 19:24

My Dh did something similar but the other way round.

I’d been keeping an eye out on marketplace for something. The item was fairly pricey usually so I was over the moon to find one for free and arranged for my dh to collect it. It was definitely free.

He paid them for it. And they accepted it.

Life is far too short ...............................

BoudecaBains · 02/01/2022 19:31

Waiting for the first, "LTB".

Workinghardeveryday · 02/01/2022 19:33

She is clearly a scum bag!!!

Londoncallingme · 02/01/2022 20:07

Are you sure that DH is telling the truth?
Pretty woman arrives “Oh, I didn’t realise it was damaged”
DH “Oh, neither did I”
PW “Not really worth £10, and I’ve come all this way”
DH “Font worry about the £10, if you want it just take it”
PW “Thank you” pops £10 back into bra strap and DH Carrie’s item to her car …

SnozPoz · 02/01/2022 20:14

You've been done by a con artist and so many people are blaming your husband? Weird kind of victim blaming. Sorry that it happened to you, but glad it wasn't too much money. Can you inform Facebook? They might be able to block her. You can definitely give her a bad rating and review as a warning to others

Nanalisa60 · 02/01/2022 20:22

Let it go!! Let it go!!

WotsitMum · 02/01/2022 20:26

I had a simular issue with selling baby stuff (cant remember what it was now) partner sold on facebook to a woman and her partner collected, my partner said it was £5 when he turned up he said his wife never said anything about money just to collect, he then said his partner must have sent the money, when partner got home he said no money was sent or even discussed sending money

Hertsgirl10 · 02/01/2022 20:26

I noticed on the marketplace on fb that it often says free then when on the advert it has a price so maybe it’s that?

Jewel52 · 02/01/2022 20:32

She’s pathetic, hope she’s proud of herself for conning a family out of a tenner. Don’t blame your other half as he’s probably too decent to get his head around someone being this low.

LondonQueen · 02/01/2022 20:34

I'd put a message out in the selling group warning others about her, she's a CF and will try it again!

Flatwhitetostayin · 02/01/2022 20:36

Your dh is totally not at fault, other than from what sounds like being a nice guy. Am glad it was only £10. I think you may need to chalk it up to experience tho and be grateful that neither of your lives have led you to being like her.x

Merryweather80 · 02/01/2022 20:49

There’s no such thing as karma. These kind of people do this all the time because they know they can get away with it. Look how many times it happens in the post above.
Cheeky f***g bastards.

Tzimi · 02/01/2022 20:52

Ah well, if it's damaged, you can't very well charge her for it.

Jewel52 · 02/01/2022 21:08

@Tzimi

Loads of stuff is sold with damage and marked down accordingly. So, if a Porsche has a dent, an antique table has a water mark, it’s just given away?
