To want the £10?

Advertised an old big unit on Facebook market place for £10, very clear it’s £10 on the post.
Arranged for someone to collect it when I was at work but DH at home.
Person arrives and tells DH that it’s free, he says ‘oh is it? Are you sure?’, and she said it was definitely advertised as free so he let her take it.

It was old, and slightly damaged, but something that could easily be painted over/done up.

AIBU to be pissed off she didn’t pay when it was clearly advertised in the post as £10 and she lied to my husband?
It’s only £10, it doesn’t make a difference to my life at all, it’s more the principle!

I did actually message her after and explain it clearly said £10 in the post but of course she hasn’t replied!

Only on Mumsnet you get conned and it still be your fault! 🤔

Grapewrath · 02/01/2022 21:10

Really trampy. I’d name and shame in the group

Fluffmum · 02/01/2022 21:19

The opposite happened to me. I went to pick up a high chair advertised as 10 pounds. When I got there the lady said it was free. She couldn’t remember what she’d advertised as she had so much for sale on FB.

Newbabynewhouse · 02/01/2022 21:32

It doesnt matter if it was a chocolate wrapper you'd advertised for £10 ..its the principle! She has practically stolen feom you so no YANBU ..cheeky bitch
.. you probably should have told your husband though

Tzimi · 02/01/2022 21:51

@Jewel52 It's not a Porsche though, or an antique. It's just an old piece of chipboard.

LovelyBranches · 02/01/2022 21:56

There are some cf’s out there. I once advertised something for £10 and the person practically threw the money in loose change at me. It came to £8 but by the time I had counted it, they were reversing down my street. They knew exactly what they were doing.

Justdontdoit · 02/01/2022 22:18

Yep, second you got conned by a scum bag. And it isn’t your husband’s fault, the scammer acted dishonestly. I have brought an item for £5 off of fb and got the PayPal details wrong but still persisted until I paid the money. It wasn’t about the £5 is was about the principle of the matter. But I also agree with other posters and say let it go, it’s not worth your anger. Although a good naming and shaming would do good

doitwithlove · 02/01/2022 22:22

Regard less of the items value WHY do some people take the piss. The item was advertised as £10.00 why not pay the money - Scumbags lets hope Karma bites there arses

So what? It was advertised as £10, so that was its price. On the basis of your argument, the plastic rubbish my offspring wanted for Christmas should have been provided for free by the shops, because it has no intrinsic value!

TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 02/01/2022 23:13

I’d be tempted to post a message on the Fb page it was sold through, with the name of the ‘buyer’, saying you are trying to get hold of her to get the ‘confusion’ resolved, as she appears to have accidentally blocked you on messenger. Gets the message across to other users and you haven’t risked being accused of slander. I would also check the advertisement to make sure it hadn’t gone up with the price not showing or somesuch.

Mamanyt · 03/01/2022 01:05

@HumunaHey

What a CF. I would publicly shame her on Facebook. Tag her name. It's almost theft.
There is no "almost" here. It was theft, out and out theft. Other than that, you are entirely right.
SpankyPankhurst · 03/01/2022 01:11

Theft, and she needs to be publicly identified

nalabae · 03/01/2022 03:20

Forget it. She obviously needed it. You will get your £10 from somewhere else

Hotyogahotchoc · 03/01/2022 05:29

If you told your DH it was £10 and he still let her take it for free then it's his fault but I can see why it's frustrating.

Yes do this!
marcopront · 03/01/2022 06:12

I don't understand your husband thought that you would tell him it was £10 when it was free.

It certainly doesn't obviously mean she needs it. I wouldn't expect to get the £10 at this stage but I'd report her for non-payment.
Ineke · 03/01/2022 08:42

People will always try to get a bargain, or something for nothing. If you had put your unit on the pavement with a sticker saying Free, it would have stayed there. If you had put a price on it, £10, it would have been nicked! She lied, tried her luck, deceived your DH, and you have been swindled. I understand how that feels and it’s horrible as it knocks your faith in humanity. I hope that a good deed will be done to you today to restore it. Don’t waste your energy on her, she isn’t worth it and you won’t get your money back. Look at it in a different was, she relieved you of something that you no longer wanted and which you may well have had to pay someone to take away for you as it’s a large item, or at least saved you a trip to the tip.

Hmm1234 · 03/01/2022 10:20

Looks like DH owes you a tenna! 😂 YANBU

Watchamocauli · 03/01/2022 10:26

As someone who regularly flogs unwanted stuff on FB market place. I’ve come across such chancers.

Take screenshot of your marketplace msgs and post on the selling groups altering others of this fraud. Seen it do by many. It works. The moderator will ban them from their groups.

Do something!!!

bg21 · 03/01/2022 10:30

no it's not his mistake ! he was caught out by an extremely cf! I would post her name all over the selling pages ! cheeky bitch don't be mad at dh

Lolabray · 03/01/2022 10:55

What a skanky person she is . This is why I don’t like marketplace

Chely · 03/01/2022 10:59

CF. Might see her selling it on for more money in the next few weeks.

Tal45 · 03/01/2022 11:01

DH was lied to! Who expects someone to lie blatantly to their face like that. The woman is a CF and it is entirely her fault, lying scumbag.
I would write on the site though warning others of what happened.

BillMasen · 03/01/2022 11:17

Someone was lied to and conned out of £10

However in mumsnet world it was their fault, and also the perpetrator must need the money, poor thing!
