To want the £10?

Advertised an old big unit on Facebook market place for £10, very clear it’s £10 on the post.
Arranged for someone to collect it when I was at work but DH at home.
Person arrives and tells DH that it’s free, he says ‘oh is it? Are you sure?’, and she said it was definitely advertised as free so he let her take it.

It was old, and slightly damaged, but something that could easily be painted over/done up.

AIBU to be pissed off she didn’t pay when it was clearly advertised in the post as £10 and she lied to my husband?
It’s only £10, it doesn’t make a difference to my life at all, it’s more the principle!

I did actually message her after and explain it clearly said £10 in the post but of course she hasn’t replied!

@purpleme12

This is his fault!! You should be blaming your DH not her! (Unless you didn't tell DH you were expecting money??)
She wasn’t making a mistake! If it was clearly advertised as £10.00 with faults highlighted then she was dishonestly trying it on. Definitely leave very bad feedback if so. That’s theft.

@minimecantrollerskate

YANBU but you won't see the money now. Your DH should have been firmer and checked with you before letting it go.

My friend just sold something on fb, left it out in her shed for collection, the person claimed that it wasn't there when they got there so she had to give them their money back. They then blocked her on fb. She involved the police but not much they can do without evidence.

I have a load of stuff I need to sell I’m amazed at these stories. Think I’ll have to stick to car boot. Although sadly looks like this only happens if original seller isn’t there at goods exchange. These are examples of personal theft the most despicable thing

I completely refuse to use Facebook marketplace because people just can’t be decent.
A few years ago I saw a post of a women who’d just had twins and desperately wanted to buy a perfect prep machine. I had one that was barely used as my ds had to move to anti reflux milk and so offered it to her for £30. This was five years ago and it had been used around five times and I put it less than what others were going for because I felt for her with twins.
Anyway she had managed to get one from someone closer to her and didn’t need it. No worries. Someone else messaged me pretty much immediately asking to buy it and as I’d put it up thought may as well. She was an absolute nightmare! Kept asking me to deliver it as she couldn’t collect it. Uhhh nope. Then asked me to meet her in the local town to hand it over which I agreed to as the meeting place was near dh’s work so he could do it. She kept cancelling. Eventually she said she’d get a lift to collect it but it might not be for a few weeks and would I hold onto it Confused.
I agreed only because I hadn’t been actively selling it so I wasn’t bothered if she ever turned up. A couple of weeks pass and I get a message saying she will be there within the hour for it. I clean it all out, replace the filter, make sure it’s working. She turns up and starts with the ‘it was £25 wasn’t it?’. It still annoys me to this day that I just agreed. What added insult to injury was she didn’t even have the correct money! She had £30 and I didn’t have change so I had to bank transfer her a fiver back! We both stood there knowing full well that she was trying it on and I let her because I didn’t want to cause trouble with somebody who knew where I lived.

This happened to my sister in law except it was a whole corner sofa worth £700 selling for £200.

This is shocking ! Why on earth did you transfer her the fiver ! Never , the cheapskate (her not you )
stayathomer · 03/01/2022 13:52

I absolutely don't think your dh was an idiot. Why would you think someone should lie about something like that?! Ugh, I hate the human race sometimes, the word cf was designed for selfish people like her!!!!

Dibbydoos · 03/01/2022 23:10

She caused all this for £10. I feel sorry for her. She's pathetic and frankly not worth you wasting time on other than to post on the sales group telling everyone what she said!

It's funny I put an item on fb for £25. FB asked me if I wanted to register, I did. I didn't notice the price was changed to £15. A guy collected it he paid me £25 cos I said it was £25. I then got a message saying he'd over paid. I checked the ad, he was right I transferred £10 back. I was robbed by fb!!!

Suepicano7176 · 03/01/2022 23:18

Hard to do but good to remember that such meanness on their part only damages them really.

WhyDoIDoThis1 · 03/01/2022 23:24

If I ever sell something on FB I always screenshot the persons profile in case something like this happens. I've had all sorts of CF coming to collect things. The fact she's blocked you - you won't see that money but I'd mention it still on Facebook. God knows how many people she's ripping off.

montysma1 · 04/01/2022 00:02

How is is not her fault?

Kikibabes · 04/01/2022 13:22

@Skiptheheartsandflowers

It's definitely his fault, not hers

He's been a twit, but how is it not the fault of the person who lied and said it had been advertised for free? They've carried out the deception. The husband just fell for it. How is he worse?

Exactly! Totally agree! It's 100% the buyers fault for chancing her arm, I know you said she has blocked you, but I would post on the selling site you had the item on aswell as contact the administrators for the page, show the proof that she knew it was not free and they might contact her to do the right thing as she may be breaking the rules of the page for all we know 🤷🏻‍♀️- the buyer is clearly being sneaky and not helping her case by ignoring your message and blocking you! She's just being obvious & clearly knows she's done wrong! It's not your husbands fault at all- he took her at her word after all MOST ADULTS DONT LIE ESPECIALLY OVER £10! So why wouldn't he believe her?! I would urge you to contact the admin of the page & post with her name on the page you sold the item on- see if that gets you anywhere👍🏻 good luck 😘
CrankyFrankie · 04/01/2022 17:54

Absolutely shocking! I assume she's local too? i wouldn't be able to let this lie. create a fake account and get hold of her (by the balls, before giving them a good sharp twist in whatever way you see fit)! Please update if you get any resolution/revenge!

CrankyFrankie · 04/01/2022 17:55

yes also report her to the moderators and get her kicked off the site/group

Gillygolightly · 06/01/2022 11:38

What is wrong with people it's not the husbands fault. He trusted this woman who was deceitful enough to lie to him and put him in an awkward position. Its not his job to sell her stuff and I'm sure he'd be more careful if it was an amount that made an impact on your life. I could just imagine you all standing on your doorstep saying 'sorry I have ring my spouse to check if she doesn't still want 10 quid for this damaged piece of furniture be cause I don't believe your ass this isn't awkward at all'
