To want my money back

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 11:34

Was due to go to canaries tomorrow but my sister tested positive on a lateral boxing day.
She did her pcr and sent it in the post Tuesdzy morning as our holiday provider said we can move our holiday admin free on proof of a positive pcr however its gone missing so we have had to pay the admin fee to move our holiday provider.
Aibu to want this money back as its out of our control.

Depressed about missing a holiday now, which you can reschedule for later, or about £80 fee. Really?

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 01/01/2022 12:12

And no point ruining your sons 21st just because his aunt is being a silly bugger.
Take your son, go on holiday, have a nice time.

Whilst you’re there maybe read some self help guides on being a bit more assertive and not such a wet lettuce

Yes depressed suffering mentally at the moment but that's another story.

@Tevion28

I wish we hadn't of booked the damn holiday I was trying to do something nice for my sons 21st.
Who else is due to go, you, your son, anyone else?

If your sister now doesn’t want to go, and you don’t need pcr tests to travel then nobody is costing you anything - pack your bags and go on holiday tomorrow.

LIZS · 01/01/2022 12:15

If the holiday is booked separately or in your name can you still go and your sister join you later in the week? Or has she just bailed anyway.

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 12:16

I said to my sister if its negative shall we still go and she said no I've cancelled airport parking and haven't ordered tests etc its too much hassle and she would rather pay the £80Sad

TwinkleTwinkleLittleStarFightr · 01/01/2022 12:16

I don’t think your sister is being honest with you. It just doesn’t add up. I think she just didn’t want to go and was trying to get out of it.

Sorry it has impacted your son’s 21st Flowers

Have you changed the holiday dates already, or could you still go without your sister?

LawnFever · 01/01/2022 12:16

@Tevion28

I'm not whining I just think either the laboratory, Royal mail or somebody else is incompetent at the moment and they have cost me £80
No, your sister would be costing you this if she’s decided she doesn’t want to go now anyway.

The whole test situation is actually irrelevant, just go on holiday with your son.

anon12345678901 · 01/01/2022 12:16

So your sister had a positive lateral, didn't get the results of a PCR, but has ordered one that went missing. She should have chased it up ages ago, this is on your sister. She hasn't cost you £80 if it's her PCR that's missing. You can still go with your son and whoever else. You've gone from complaining about the airline, to saying they've been good and now complaining about the labs / Royal Mail. Stop complaining and just go on holiday without her.

So she never wanted to go really then. If she had, she wouldn't have been so quick to cancel.
Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 12:17

There was myself son and 2 sisters and thier husbands and my 2 sisters always stick together

But someone said before you don’t need the tests Confused

Rebook your own parking and tell your sister if she wants to stay home fine but it’s your sons 21st and you’re going & she can do as well.

ImInStealthMode · 01/01/2022 12:18

@Tevion28 If she doesn't want to go then she doesn't have to, that's her prerogative. There is nothing stopping YOU going though.

Onesnowynight · 01/01/2022 12:18

Just go on your holiday. Her pcr may still come through and be negative. LFTs aren’t 100%. If not she does another PCR. Simple. I don’t see the issue.

LIZS · 01/01/2022 12:18

How far is airport? Taxi/train? Might cost you more than £80 I suspect.

codexa · 01/01/2022 12:19

@Tevion28

It was a nhs test not private
I don't think NHS tests are valid for travel purposes. It needs to be a private test. So you would not get past the departure gate anyway and will have to pay for a private test in due course to travel.

Sounds like she's making it all up because she doesn't want to go.

That doesn't stop you and your son going though.

TwinkleTwinkleLittleStarFightr · 01/01/2022 12:19

You could rebook the parking yourself, and you don’t need tests to fly to Spain.

I would ask to see proof that she had even booked the airport parking. Because I suspect she didn’t, because she didn’t plan on going.

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 12:19

Well its moved to the 24th of March now and yes I agree my sister has slunk back in her armchair with no intention of going until later in the year.

Your sister owes you the money for changing the holiday then, she needs to pay you back.
SagittariusDwarf · 01/01/2022 12:21

@codexa you don't need to do a PCR test to travel to Spain.

LIZS · 01/01/2022 12:21

That was quick! At least you have time to save up again.

ImInStealthMode · 01/01/2022 12:21

@codexa This wasn't a test TO travel (you don't need one for Spain anyway) it was an NHS test in response to a positive LFT that she could use as proof to the travel company of not being able to travel.

rookiemere · 01/01/2022 12:21

It sounds very much as if your Dsis just changed her mind about going. Did she pay for her share of the holiday or have you paid for it all? If it's the latter, I'd be pressing her to pay for any admin costs for changing. Just because she has a positive lateral flow does not mean there is enough proof for refund, and I think most people traveling would understand that now. There was plenty of time between her positive LFT to arrange a PCR test and it sounds like she got a postal one which was really silly of her.

At this point I'd go for changing the holiday date if that can be done not too expensively as none of you appear to be thinking straight enough to make sensible decisions.

codexa · 01/01/2022 12:24

Thanks for the clarification re the NHS test and PCR not being required for travel to Spain.
