To want my money back

200 replies

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 11:34

Was due to go to canaries tomorrow but my sister tested positive on a lateral boxing day.
She did her pcr and sent it in the post Tuesdzy morning as our holiday provider said we can move our holiday admin free on proof of a positive pcr however its gone missing so we have had to pay the admin fee to move our holiday provider.
Aibu to want this money back as its out of our control.

@Tevion28

I've just asked her to do another pcr but she said its not worth it as she has just done a lateral which was negative.
So why do you need to move the holiday? Surely you just go as planned tomorrow?
HotToddyColdSauvignon · 01/01/2022 12:06

Great. Go without her. Don’t see the issue. Have a nice trip

EewDavid · 01/01/2022 12:06

I work for a travel company, Jet2 are already being extraordinarily generous in letting you change due to covid this close to the date of travel. With the majority of other companies you'd be needing to cancel and claim from your travel insurers just the same as if you were sick with anything else that prevented you from travelling

Nowhere near as generous as Eurowings who are letting people rebook flights for free even if they just feel too concerned to travel right now. And if you don’t want to rebook they are issuing vouchers for the value of the flight which can be used any time over the next 3 years. I was very impressed and surprised.

LawnFever · 01/01/2022 12:06

@Tevion28

Oh gawd I think people are confused over what I mean. She tested positive on a lateral boxing day. Ordered a pcr sent it in the post Tuesday morning its gone missing
No, people are confused as to why you’ve left it so late if the test has gone missing.

Have you explained to Jet2 the test has gone missing?

If the test would be negative now anyway then you can/should still go and they have no reason to change it without a fee so get a private one done today.

RussianSpy101 · 01/01/2022 12:07

You’re depressed? Very extreme reaction.

Who do you expect to give you this money?

PinkWaferBiscuit · 01/01/2022 12:07

@Tevion28

My sister is set on not going anyway now.
So it doesn't matter if the test results had come back or not then?

This has nothing to do with the travel companies policy and everything to do with your sister now changing her mind and you being out of pocket.

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 12:08

I'm not whining I just think either the laboratory, Royal mail or somebody else is incompetent at the moment and they have cost me £80

OP posts:
Rememberallball · 01/01/2022 12:08

@Tevion28

In these uncertain times why can't they accept a lateral.
Because lateral flow tests can be wrong which is why the government say to always follow up a positive lateral flow test with a pcr to confirm or rule out infection.
Thesearmsofmine · 01/01/2022 12:08

Does your sister just not want to go on holiday?

LawnFever · 01/01/2022 12:08

@Tevion28

My sister is set on not going anyway now.
So go on your own, have you done a private pcr to travel?

If she’s just not wanting to go because she previously got a positive test but now just doesn’t fancy it then nobody has any reason to move the holiday for free.

Soberfutures · 01/01/2022 12:08

Then if you are saying she is now refusing to go to a walk in centre and have the results back asap then she should pay all the fees for u all.

There is an obvious solution but you are saying she is the one refusing to get a repeat test ASAP.

Definitely not jet2 fault your sister is now making you out of pocket.

rookiemere · 01/01/2022 12:09

You should be able to get a same day PCR if you are prepared to pay for it. Dsis should have been on this a couple of days ago, not waiting until the day before you go.

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 12:09

I wish we hadn't of booked the damn holiday I was trying to do something nice for my sons 21st.

They haven’t cost you £80. You can still go on your holiday.

Just because your sister has now chosen to not go, for whatever reason doesn’t mean you have to cancel going.

Stop being a drip

Soberfutures · 01/01/2022 12:09

And it's your sister costing you the money. You should go on holiday and she can arrange sorting her own refund out. Or covering the costs you will lose.

ImInStealthMode · 01/01/2022 12:09

@EewDavid Wow, that is good.

SagittariusDwarf · 01/01/2022 12:09

So if her test is now negative then what exactly is the issue?

girlmom21 · 01/01/2022 12:10

@Tevion28

I'm not whining I just think either the laboratory, Royal mail or somebody else is incompetent at the moment and they have cost me £80
It's your sisters incompetence that's cost £80. If she ordered it on Tuesday can take 3-5 working days to be delivered - that's standard. She knew it hadn't turned up and has done nothing about it.

Its nobody's else's fault.

TueWed · 01/01/2022 12:10

@HotToddyColdSauvignon
Tevion28

In these uncertain times why can't they accept a lateral.

Because anyone could Google an image of a positive lateral and send it to the company and get their free holiday change. You’re being silly no OP

you dont even have to do that, open a LFT scan the barcode, pop in positive ( I assume that works the same as negative, no photo, just Pos or Neg)

Sirzy · 01/01/2022 12:10

@Tevion28

You can still go.

Your sister could have chased things up days ago.

Given the amount of tests being processed every day there is going to unfortunately be things go missing. It’s not ideal but it’s nobody’s fault.

Your sister is only dealing with herself yet can’t seem to manage to sort it!

Normski67 · 01/01/2022 12:11

Do you need to go on your own then.
Doesn’t sound like your sister is looking for solutions on how to make this work.

Namechangehereandnow · 01/01/2022 12:11

No, they have not cost you £80 🙄
You chose to book a holiday in the middle of a worldwide pandemic.
Your sister chose the worst way to get a pcr.
You/her have chosen to sit on things fir a few days and do nothing.

Grow up OP.

Floralnomad · 01/01/2022 12:11

I think your sister is telling porkies , she didn’t want to go on the holiday so she’s faked a LF to convince you and never took a PCR . Seriously if you can’t afford £80 you really shouldn’t be going abroad on holiday - anything can crop up that costs as much if not more than that , especially in the current climate

PriamFarrl · 01/01/2022 12:11

@Tevion28

I'm not whining I just think either the laboratory, Royal mail or somebody else is incompetent at the moment and they have cost me £80
Hang on. When did she do the PCR? Was it a drive in or postal?

If it was postal then there have only been 3 postal days since Christmas Day.
It’s only just got to the lab, if at all.

LawnFever · 01/01/2022 12:11
@LawnFever You don't need a negative PCR to travel to Spain at the moment (but you do need to be double vaccinated).
Ah thanks for this I’ve totally lost track of what’s needed to go where!
