To want my money back

200 replies

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 11:34

Was due to go to canaries tomorrow but my sister tested positive on a lateral boxing day.
She did her pcr and sent it in the post Tuesdzy morning as our holiday provider said we can move our holiday admin free on proof of a positive pcr however its gone missing so we have had to pay the admin fee to move our holiday provider.
Aibu to want this money back as its out of our control.

She tested positive on a lateral boxing day [26th]. Ordered a pcr sent it in the post Tuesday morning [28th] its gone missing

Next time Get her arse immediately down to a paid-for PCR test centre ( not at home) that promises results by midnight following day. We actually got our results 24 hours earlier than that. I wouldn't want to lose £80 either, but it's the mess you're in now so probably have to suck it up. is that £80 per person or £80 for all travellers?

girlmom21 · 01/01/2022 12:48

@Tevion28

She is due out of isolation tomorrow. And I have paid the admin fee myself. I work casual hours so do what I want both my sisters and husbands are retired and my son is at university.
Sorry I assumed you were early 20s
ThereIsAGreenHillFarAway · 01/01/2022 12:50

So LFT unluckily positive 26th. Luckily managed to get a postal PCR by 28th and posted back. Then lucky enough to get 119 to confirm a lost test even though everyone else has to wait 6 days before 119 will check. Won't do another PCR as LFT now negative even though PCR is much more sensitive and may enable everyone to receive their deposits back.

Sorry you're out of pocket through no fault of your own, but something really doesn't add up here.

LynetteScavo · 01/01/2022 12:52

If you can't afford the £80 admin fee you can't afford to go abroad these days...it could end up a very expensive holiday for so many Covid reasons.

She's either got Covid, in which case she can't fly, or she hasn't got Covid anymore, in which case she could have done a PCR test for travel.

What am I missing here? That she's feeling too ill for a holiday? In which case no matter what her illness, you need to pay the £80.

What am I missing here? Confused

Cocomarine · 01/01/2022 12:54

@Tevion28

I've had to pay the admin fee yes. I've just sent a message to my other sister abt how upset I am.
What was the point of that? I’ve got sisters and we do let off steam to each other, about each other. But you know she sides with PCR sister. Either confront PCR sister or let it go.

If she was ever positive (I’m in the chinny reckon camp) then it’s a bit unfair to call the postal or testing service incompetent. They can’t deliver a 100% only. Only a dick would wait 2 days to receive a test (requested on a Sunday? And received and returned on a bank holiday?) and choose to do it by post so close to a holiday booking.
PCR sister is either lying completely, or was genuinely positive but decided she didn’t want to go and had a negative PCR.

CovidForChristmas · 01/01/2022 12:56

It was madness to rely on the post between Christmas and new year, it was quite obviously going to be delayed at best.
FWIW I got my results from a test centre on Xmas day less then 24 hours. My DH then went and got a test a few days later and also got his results within 24 hours.
No idea why she didn’t go to an actual centre!

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 12:57

I agree with you all sister was ridiculous to have got a postal pcrAngry

@Tevion28

In these uncertain times why can't they accept a lateral.
Because it's very easy to fake. Open the packet record it as a positive on the government website. Job done. Or take a picture of someone else's positive test.
StatisticallyChallenged · 01/01/2022 13:01

AFAIK (and according to their website) Royal Mail were neither delivering nor collecting on the 28th.

personal.help.royalmail.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5346/~/service-update---public-holidays

So how did she get a PCR (which she ordered on the 26th) by the 28th when it would have been neither collected nor delivered? I think your sister is at it.

HTH1 · 01/01/2022 13:03

Shame - I would have still gone with my son.

WhatNowBernadette · 01/01/2022 13:09

OP one other thing for your sister to consider if she plans on going abroad or getting a booster soon is that she really needs proof of having Covid. This could affect her ‘recovery’ status as a passenger and also the timing of any boosters. I would want to know for sure regardless of the current holiday situation.

Islandescape · 01/01/2022 13:22

What a ridiculous thread, your sister tested positive on Boxing Day and is now having negative lateral flows which means she’s fine to go on holiday tomorrow.

It’s not fair for you to blame the NHS or royal mail for having to pay the admin fee, it’s your sisters fault. She’s allowed to go on the holiday, she’s just choosing not to.

tcjotm · 01/01/2022 13:24

@StatisticallyChallenged I think the problem is she never got the test. She ordered it but it hasn’t arrived (understandable, there’s been very few work days). Her sister will probably receive it next week. She hasn’t done the test yet.

Lovelymincepies · 01/01/2022 13:25

If she has the NHS her result will be shown on there.
It will also be on her medical records.

Lovelymincepies · 01/01/2022 13:26

Oh sorry just realised your sister has not had a positive test result.

Well she owes you the admin fee back - just tell her straight, why are you letting her call all the shots here it’s absolutely ridiculous.

This is all your sisters doing, and you could all still have gone on holiday tomorrow anyway!

Stand up for yourself, and your son who’s birthday has been ruined.

Yes she has, read the OPs posts, she says her sister has received & done the test but not got the result back, that’s literally the point of the whole thread Grin

Good sleuthing!

I agree, the sister is making the whole thing up, she probably never even tested positive on a LF in the first place, none of it really makes much sense.

That's not what op says...

SilverBirchWithout · 01/01/2022 14:31

Sounds to me like your sister has made up the positive lateral flow test because she didn’t want to go on the holiday. I would be sceptical about what she’s telling you.

friendlycat · 01/01/2022 14:37

I agree with others. It sounds as though your sister didn’t want to go at this time. The timelines don’t work with postal PCRs.

Perhaps would have been better if she had discussed with everyone about moving forward the holiday and everyone accepting the charges.

Thepineapplemystery · 01/01/2022 15:29

@Lockheart

I didn't think you were supposed to use the NHS PCR tests for a holiday...
She isn't. She's using it to confirm the positive lateral flow she got.
KrisAkabusi · 01/01/2022 15:41

@Tevion28

At this stage nobody but you believes the above. It's much more likely she's made it all up as she doesn't want to travel.
girlmom21 · 01/01/2022 15:51

Are you able to get a refund on your holiday? I'm going to hazard a guess that you'll have the same rigmarole again in 3 months time

Tillow4ever · 01/01/2022 15:53

@Tevion28

I'm not whining I just think either the laboratory, Royal mail or somebody else is incompetent at the moment and they have cost me £80
No - your sister has cost you £80 because she couldn't be arsed to go to a test centre within 24 hours of a positive LFT. She then couldn't be arsed to do another one once it was realised the first was missing.

If your system tested positive on Boxing Day, and didn't have symptoms before that, she is able to come out of isolation on day 7 if LFT's are negative on days 6 and 6. Yesterday was day 6, today is day 7. So as she's showing as negative now, there's absolutely no reason she couldn't travel tomorrow. If she had symptoms before Boxing Day, isolation ends earlier - but she's an even bigger twat for not going for a PCR as soon as she has symptoms, and for doing an LFT instead.

You could have asked the travel company what was the latest you could change the dates with positive PCR and waiting on negative LFT's given the dates would have allowed you to travel.

Do you live with your sister? It sounds to me pretty suspicious and I don't think she tested positive at all. I think she doesn't want to go anymore and used it as an excuse.
