To want my money back

200 replies

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 11:34

Was due to go to canaries tomorrow but my sister tested positive on a lateral boxing day.
She did her pcr and sent it in the post Tuesdzy morning as our holiday provider said we can move our holiday admin free on proof of a positive pcr however its gone missing so we have had to pay the admin fee to move our holiday provider.
Aibu to want this money back as its out of our control.

if your sister* tested positive

Sorry for the typos!

Have seen it's been moved to March so too late now for tomorrow. Your sister definitely owes you the money. Or, if it was £80 total, split it between the 3 families going if you don't want to fall out - that would be less than £30 for each sister.

Who's idea what the holiday? Were your sisters keen on going to start with? Who booked it? Who cancelled it? Why didn't you keep yours and your sons tickets to go?

Can't get a refund unless we go into lockdown when due to go.

Ok, but is your sister who’s messed everyone around covered the cost of moving the holiday to March?
girlmom21 · 01/01/2022 17:45

@Tevion28 on that basis I'd prepare for her doing the same thing again and arrange your own travel to the airport etc just in case

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 18:02

No she hasn't covered the cost lawn

Have you told them all she needs to?

I honestly can’t understand how you’ve been lumbered with the costs, or why you’d want to go on holiday with them all if they think that’s ok?

FredaFox · 01/01/2022 21:13

@LynetteScavo

If you can't afford the £80 admin fee you can't afford to go abroad these days...it could end up a very expensive holiday for so many Covid reasons.

She's either got Covid, in which case she can't fly, or she hasn't got Covid anymore, in which case she could have done a PCR test for travel.

What am I missing here? That she's feeling too ill for a holiday? In which case no matter what her illness, you need to pay the £80.

What am I missing here? Confused

^this Travelling abroad isn't cheap so if you can't afford the £80 how are you going to afford the extras that come with holidays? Eg spending money, boat trips, water parks etc
Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 22:07

It's not that I couldn't afford its a waste of money when we could have changed for free

Given that it seems highly unlikely this PCR ever existed then your sister should be coughing up for these fees.
tcjotm · 01/01/2022 23:57

@LawnFever @StatisticallyChallenged true but I thought from later posts it came out that it wasn’t the case. I was going by this update:

Oh gawd I think people are confused over what I mean. She tested positive on a lateral boxing day. Ordered a pcr sent it in the post Tuesday morning its gone missing

With the time line, the only thing that made sense to me was that the sister had only gotten to the stage of ordering the test, it was in the post to her and that it hasn’t reached her. Because how could she do a LFT on Boxing Day, and then order and receive a PCR by the Tuesday? There was no postal service those days. She’s just saying what she thinks OP wants to hear.

I think the sister has been lying the whole time. Really with the time frame a reasonable person would go out to arrange the test.

Exactly.

Like I said earlier, between Boxing Day and today there had only been 3 days of post. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, unless they are sending them out via a courier.

The very first post says she did a pcr - i think she has told OP that she received it and sent it back on the Tuesday. Which I don't think is possible but would fit with normal post times if it wasn't bank holidays and you'd forgotten to take that in to account when fibbing.

She also says sis refused to do another pcr which suggests she claims to have done one

tcjotm · 02/01/2022 04:26

Haha you’re right @StatisticallyChallenged it was a plausible story but she didn’t account for the holidays,

As it is it makes no sense. I was trying to give the sister the benefit of the doubt (that she asked for it to be sent on the Tuesday, not that she sent it back then and it was worded badly) but it’s pretty clear none of it ever happened.

Poor OP, it’ll probably be the same drama in March.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 02/01/2022 05:03

@Tevion28

RussianSpy101 Yes depressed suffering mentally at the moment but that's another story.
Why aren't you and son going away?

Leave your disorganised sister to it!!

ThinWomansBrain · 02/01/2022 05:12

If you don't have the test results, how do you know it was positive?

not unreasonable for the holiday provider to want prooof of the positive test.

Luckyducky75 · 02/01/2022 05:22

@Tevion28

Well yes can get another pcr but it's gonna be negative now.
No it won't.
Tevion28 · 02/01/2022 05:44

Sister says she did a lateral yesterday which was now negative

OP posts:
AlDanvers · 02/01/2022 05:55

The company won't give your money back because your sister is am arse and probably didn't even do the pcr test.

You could have still gone as could your son, especially since it was for his birthday.

You have completely martyred yourself and now want the company to compensate you for that and the consequences of your sisters behaviour.

It is unreasonable.

Youngstreet · 02/01/2022 06:40

Another who doesn’t think your sister ever did a pcr.

girlmom21 · 02/01/2022 07:53

@Tevion28

Well we all know she's a blatant liar and she's ruined your holiday so it's irrelevant - and very convenient
rookiemere · 02/01/2022 07:57

For those saying OP should have gone with her DS, I don't know how easy it is to decouple a package holiday booking for a certain number of people.

Your Dsis may have had a positive lateral flow test, but as others have said I'm sceptical that she actually booked a PCR.

So with that knowledge I'd take personal charge of making sure everyone does what they need for the March holiday. The passenger locator forms can be quite time consuming so I'd use one of the FB sites to make sure you know how to complete yours and help the rest of the family. If any tests are required, you book them ( make sure you get the money from them).

It's happened now so best to look forward.

Essemce · 02/01/2022 08:05

I had a positive lft and did a. Pcr and was. Negative. Lft tests are not accurate

Elsielouise13 · 02/01/2022 08:13

@Tevion28

In these uncertain times why can't they accept a lateral.
Because there’s a reducing amount of uncertainty and people are taking advantage.There’s never been much certainty about the mail service at best either.

Pay the fee, claim it back if you can, get over it if you can’t. TBF, planning a holiday was always a risk, you took it and lost out. We did the same but factored into our costs a postponement fee. Will hopefully be going on our trip at Easter.

saleorbouy · 02/01/2022 08:14

Go to a private Lab tester like Doctap, Randox or Rocdoc. You can get results in a few hours from most.
You relative should still test +ve and you'll have sufficient evidence.

LawnFever · 02/01/2022 08:57

@Tevion28

Sister says she did a lateral yesterday which was now negative
Did you tell her that you could’ve all still gone on holiday and avoided all this unnecessary drama and cost?

She’s clearly lied about the PCR, call her out on it.
