To want my money back

200 replies

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 11:34

Was due to go to canaries tomorrow but my sister tested positive on a lateral boxing day.
She did her pcr and sent it in the post Tuesdzy morning as our holiday provider said we can move our holiday admin free on proof of a positive pcr however its gone missing so we have had to pay the admin fee to move our holiday provider.
Aibu to want this money back as its out of our control.

DeepaBeesKit
It is a email or text result

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 01/01/2022 11:46

Well, you can move YOUR part of the booking surely? Up to your sister to change her part and get her admin fee refunded

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 11:46

In these uncertain times why can't they accept a lateral.

@Tevion28

In these uncertain times why can't they accept a lateral.
Because they can be faked.

They will want properly registered results not someone’s say so

Gazelda · 01/01/2022 11:47

So the PCR results team appear to have never received the test? So she doesn't have a positive PCR result?

Who do you want a refund from? Royal Mail, test processing centre, travel firm?

I understand your frustration and disappointment at not going on holiday tomorrow, but surely you can see this is simply a pain in the arse which is part an parcel of this whole covid debacle.

Expensive for you, but travel is a gamble right now.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 01/01/2022 11:48

@Tevion28

In these uncertain times why can't they accept a lateral.
Because anyone could Google an image of a positive lateral and send it to the company and get their free holiday change. You’re being silly no OP

We’ve told you what to do. Get your sister to do another pcr and chase the refund after

CharlotteRose90 · 01/01/2022 11:48

So why doesn’t she send the text or email confirming the pcr results to them by email. If you get an nhs test you get both sent to you. Just send them that with the booking details and then ring them to confirm.

Lockheart · 01/01/2022 11:49

I didn't think you were supposed to use the NHS PCR tests for a holiday...

ImInStealthMode · 01/01/2022 11:49

I work for a travel company, Jet2 are already being extraordinarily generous in letting you change due to covid this close to the date of travel. With the majority of other companies you'd be needing to cancel and claim from your travel insurers just the same as if you were sick with anything else that prevented you from travelling.

Anyone can find a picture of a positive lateral flow test online, of course they won't accept that.

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 01/01/2022 11:49

I was told my daughters put result was lost when I chased it after 72 hours. It came through the following morning. So it could still come through for you to send as proof.

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 11:49

£80 each not alot I know but it's alot to me

@Tevion28

DeepaBeesKit It is a email or text result
How can an email or text result go completely missing, she’ll still have a copy.

Just resend them a copy now from the date she got the positive result.

It’ll be on her NHS records too, I don’t understand what kind of physical proof she was trying to send them?

HMG107 · 01/01/2022 11:50

Why does it matter it’s gone missing in the post? If it’s NHS, as others have said, there will be email and text evidence of the result. It will also be on her NHS app and her GP could even write a letter.

Surely this is easily solved?

Clymene · 01/01/2022 11:50

She would have got her result emailed surely? Is the email not accepted?

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 01/01/2022 11:50

@Lockheart

She did a pcr because she has a positive lft.

LawnFever · 01/01/2022 11:52

@Lockheart

I didn't think you were supposed to use the NHS PCR tests for a holiday...
Can you if you’re testing because you have symptoms, to confirm you’re positive rather than testing purely because you’re travelling?

But yes, wouldn’t she have done a private test to travel too?

ImInStealthMode · 01/01/2022 11:52

@Lockheart

I didn't think you were supposed to use the NHS PCR tests for a holiday...
You can't use an NHS (negative) test result in order TO travel, but that's not the situation here.
HotToddyColdSauvignon · 01/01/2022 11:52

I think what the op means is that the pcr when missing BEOFRE it reached the lab. Therefore there isn’t a test result because it never reached there.

So the sister SHOULD DO ANOTHER PCR.

ConfusedIt’s not rocket science

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 01/01/2022 11:53

Anyone booking a holiday at the minute should be prepared to face additional costs and disruption to their plans and factor it in accordingly. Like you said these are uncertain times so not sure why you think Jet2 should suck up more losses?

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 11:53

CharlotteRose90
Because she hasn't had the result it appears to be missing.

OP posts:
Thesearmsofmine · 01/01/2022 11:54

She could book a pcr today and then chase a refund once her results come though.

MsTSwift · 01/01/2022 11:54

If travelling abroad £80 is a drop in the ocean for extra anticipated covid admin costs

Tevion28 · 01/01/2022 11:54

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe
I totally get your point I'm just frustrated with it all.

OP posts:
LawnFever · 01/01/2022 11:54

@HotToddyColdSauvignon

Well, you can move YOUR part of the booking surely? Up to your sister to change her part and get her admin fee refunded
The OP only wants to move it because of her sisters positive test, or she’ll have to pay.

But that positive test result will be available on email, text or the NHS app so I don’t see how it can possibly be lost?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 01/01/2022 11:54

Well, I would think anyone booking a holiday at the moment would factor in unexpected costs and last minute changes to plans!

Just get your sister to re-test and then claim the admin costs back once you have proof of a positive test.
