Why does 'wokeness' annoy people so much?

twwindow · 27/12/2021 20:18

Isn't it just trying to make the world a better place but making people feel accepted no matter their race, gender etc?

It seems to wind some people up so bad - and it's usually those that are part of a majority group that gets wound up most by it (usually white/men) - is it because they feel threatened?

Whenever anyone stands up for a cause they are automatically called woke - and it's now as if it's a bad thing.

It's sad, I see people fed up with 'wokeness' as code for 'we can't get away with our racist, sexist BS anymore as people are calling us out'.

OP posts:

@bordermidgebite

Its quite clear.

Maybe you need to re read.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/12/2021 22:12

one-issue keyboard warriors screaming down any opposition with hyperbolic 'facts' and patronising abuse which is clearly all you're capable of.

Clearly you're not capable of much either if you can't defend your own views.

Clear to you but not to me

If you can't understand that you are not clear to others , well either you don't care or you are just arrogant or stupid , or???

JohnHuffam1812 · 28/12/2021 22:15

If its not clear then you need to re read. Its clear that I'm not misrepresenting my points, its others that have in the debate previously.

bordermidgebite · 28/12/2021 22:20

Well you didn't say that

And I might not then agree that others have ( deliberately at keast ) misrepresented your points

JohnHuffam1812 · 28/12/2021 22:21

Well they have. :)

You don't have to agree, isn't that the nature of debate?

Iguanothankyoudon · 28/12/2021 22:29

Elodie you may wish to re-read your own posts to check for hyperbole. You've mentioned screaming bigotry and patronising abuse. None of which I've seen on this thread. Robust debate and probing questions yes. Is it because things are not going your way and it makes you cross?

Yep, these type of threads always end up the same, sadly.
Even if it's not even a trans thread, and the problem with the word woke and behaviour in general, everything else gets shouted down and made to be about that. Yet another identikit thread, and lots of good posts about racism, the origins of woke as a word, and lots of other good posts lost in all the one track mindedness.

Broads93 · 28/12/2021 22:45

I honestly can't get over the people with the opinion that being "Woke" is somehow deleting history. First of all, we have the Internet, nothing is a secret on there. Secondly, when you're moaning about all of these statues being pulled down, do you actually understand that most of the culprits in question were guilty of vile human rights violations? slavery etc. You want their statue to remain because its part of history ? Why don't we erect a massive Hitler statue to go with it? There's honestly little difference in the two.
I honestly feel sorry any minority that constantly has to defend their point even when they're morally in the right. Sickening.

JohnHuffam1812 · 28/12/2021 22:47

The deleting history thing is just an argument that's been developed so that change doesn't need to happen.

MarmaladeCloud · 28/12/2021 22:48

YES

Curiousmouse · 28/12/2021 22:56

Yes OP.

Datun · 28/12/2021 23:05

Just popping back to see if John has managed to answer the question that he asserted is 'very understandable, and really quite simple to get your head around'.

I guess not.

Still, i'm not even slightly interested in what he thinks.

This failure to even remotely account for one's own vehement claims regarding women's rights, are almost single-handedly responsible for the wonderful lurkers thread we've had recently.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4433483-Thank-You-from-the-Lurkers

Well done, John.

Grin
Told ya.
It's all just for show.
Didn't care about an answer all along as I said.

JohnHuffam1812 · 28/12/2021 23:11

@Datun

Yes I'm sure I'm responsible for a thread that started a week ago, when this thread started on Monday.

Its so nice to see that you make so much shit up.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 28/12/2021 23:12

Only answer you will ever see is the one you agree with.
When you see something you don't like, you pretend it's not there.
Always.

JohnHuffam1812 · 28/12/2021 23:13

@NoNotMeNoSiree

Its not really a debate, its ask a loaded question and whatever the answer pile on afterwards.

As much as the Anti Trans movement here think they are winning friends they are alienating as many people as they recruit because of it.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 28/12/2021 23:17

It's never a debate.
I've started out trying to debate, but have learned which posters really don't want one
and have even said so on past threads.
You soon realise not to even bother.
'' You can't answer! ''
Whereas if they actually read posts they'd see that's not the case.
Yep, some lurkers might get sucked in, but others see it for what it is or suddenly have their eyes opened.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 28/12/2021 23:18

they are alienating as many people as they recruit because of it
Agree

Haha!

The failure, the. Not your personal failure on this specific thread.

I hate to break it to you, but not everything revolves around you. 😁

JayAlfredPrufrock · 28/12/2021 23:37

😂😂😂

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/12/2021 00:02

Not your personal failure on this specific thread.

That's quite instructive too, such as the way John had to admit that he wasn't being 100% truthful when he made a false assertion that gender critical feminists were constantly sending Caroline Nokes death threats.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/12/2021 00:03

So a bit rich to claim that others are "making stuff up", really.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/12/2021 00:08

And no, it’s never been answered in any way that supports the claims the Genderists make that this womanny “thing” is so personal that it can’t be objectively observed, only self-identified, and yet is so hugely important to all aspects of one’s life and how society treats one that it must replace the clearly observeable fact of sex in all things.

So while you may find it boring, until there’s an answer that supports the claims the Genderists make and wish to change existing rights and protectIons on the basis of I think it’s reasonable that those of us who will be affected by the redefinition of “woman” should want to know exactly what this new definition actually is, no?

You'd think, wouldn't you.

foxgoosefinch · 29/12/2021 00:17

I was misrepresented a lot yesterday, lots of strawman building going on too.

You weren’t being misrepresented. (In fact you were doing a lot of misrepresenting.) Saying you were is just a teenage debate tactic to add to the general run-around and sealioning, something which we are all familiar with as a mode of discourse. For a while it might be fun to argue with, but we all know what it is, and it doesn’t make you look like you are “winning” - it just makes you look adolescent and economical with the truth.
