AIBU to be horrified? (content warning: sex crimes)

I've read about this case where John Ernest Goodier has been charged with bestiality, child pornography, drug possession and not sticking to his sex offenders conditions.

He recently goes by the name Claire. This paper refers to him as a man but many of the others refer to him as a woman.

AIBU to be horrified that this might be reported and recorded as a woman's crime and may serve time in a woman's prison?

(Yes I did post this before but requested it was deleted, so I could post again with a poll. In the interim, the ability to add a poll has gone and I can't see any polls in AIBU. Peculiar 🤔)

I've just read he's being sent to a male prison, because she is not legally a woman.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 23/12/2021 18:09

He's been jailed for 20 months.

He is not a woman, legal or otherwise.
Linguini · 23/12/2021 18:12

Careful now, it's "they is not a woman"

Waitwhat23 · 23/12/2021 18:15

Second - there is no such thing as "true trans gender individuals". People are trans if they say they are. End of story. And don't complain to me - complain to Stonewall.

@alfonsotheunrepentant thank you Alfonso, this is what I was trying (badly) to say. Stonewall have a huge umbrella of what constitutes trans individuals and because of 'no debate' we can't challenge this without accusations of transphobia.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 23/12/2021 18:16

You're welcome, @Waitwhat23!

Blossom987 · 23/12/2021 18:22

Imagine being a woman sent to prison for not paying your tv licence but then this individual gets a suspended sentence - on two separate occasions - for possessing child sexual abuse images. And people say women get lighter sentences than men.

Lacedwithgrace · 23/12/2021 18:37

The alternative is she endangers men. Criminals don't get to choose who they feel safest with.

Strangeways19 · 23/12/2021 18:39

No the crime has nothing to do with gender preference, women are anyway capable of horrendous crimes, I don't get the whole wishing she does the time in a male prison.

Without medical & proper professional direction the trans status in the eyes of the law doesn't stand anyway.
Christ though, a dog, what state of mind would you have to be in for that to happen.
Is there a full story somewhere?

The perpetrator is a he, not a she, and therefore belongs in a male prison.

And what is "medical and proper professional direction"? Your post shows a staggering ignorance of the issue.

Have you read the thread? And you still don't understand why it's important that men are not imprisoned alongside vulnerable women? Or why it's completely disingenuous to pretend that women commit these offences just the same as men do?

Linguini · 23/12/2021 18:56

Women can't use their penis to commit crimes

Guavaf1sh · 23/12/2021 18:58

The world is insane now

RobotValkyrie · 23/12/2021 19:03

@Lacedwithgrace

The alternative is she endangers men. Criminals don't get to choose who they feel safest with.
But if they happen to be male sex offenders, then they do get to chose who they will endanger, and get to pick the more physically vulnerable demographic? Makes sense. Sounds fair and all that.
Yummychocs19 · 23/12/2021 19:11

Yanbu. People get slated all the time for cultural appropriation yet somehow if you’re born as a biological woman or man it’s okay to appropriate the characteristics of the opposite sex? I don’t get the society we are living in today….I’d have thought statistically more men commit sex offences than women? Why does ‘identifying’ as a woman when you have / had a penis suddenly enable you to be blindly accepted as a woman in society and use our changing facilities and toilets and prisons without any regard for potential risks to biological women?

Yummychocs19 · 23/12/2021 19:14

Also I’m not even sure if I’m allowed to express my opinion on this anymore?!

Yummychocs19 · 23/12/2021 19:18

Just one other thing in relation to appropriation…men have traditionally dominated women, we had to fight hard for our rights and still aren’t treated equally in all areas of society. That’s why I find this all really unreasonable ….a man decides to do this and we are told to just accept it or if we don’t we are being hateful etc.

Nowayoutonlydown · 23/12/2021 19:21

I was disgusted when I read the article about this.
This vile human being will be put into a male prison I read about an hour ago. They do not deserve to be around other human beings, they are a vile predator through and through.

gailforce1 · 23/12/2021 19:30

20 months - wonder how soon he will be on the streets again?

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 23/12/2021 19:53

Not only transgender, but also transage. How cute.

Linguini · 23/12/2021 20:12

www.lifesitenews.com/news/mexican-supreme-court-affirms-right-to-change-birth-certificates-to-reflect-age-identity/

If the UK follow recent identity laws introduced in Mexico, this man would have the right to identify as too young to go to prison.

rockinghorsebadge · 23/12/2021 21:08

@Lockheart

As an adult, I don't need MN deleting threads in case they offend though? Or do they delete because advertisers would be cross?

MNs talk guidelines say they will delete (among other things) personal attacks, racism, homophobia, transphobia etc.

If that does not suit I suggest that you find a different forum.

Urgh, patronising.
AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 23/12/2021 21:17

I agree with you, @rockinghorsebadge. That post was patronising.

Supersimkin2 · 23/12/2021 21:25

Why can't HMP house John Claire with another transwoman who's been convicted of rape?

They'd get on due to numerous proven shared interests - surely the caring, sensitive way forward.

John Claire couldn't object.
