Do you find takeaways gross?

Evening

Do you find takeaways gross, and avoid them at all costs?
I generally don't order takeout, only from time to time. Maybe it's just me, but sometimes I start eating them, and I honestly can just not finish it?! And feel kinda gross after or repulsed by the food tbh.

I generally try to go for lighter, healthier takeaways, so non-greasy foods, maybe Wagamama's but I was recently put off this too. Another time I had a Nando's wrap and coleslaw without chips and that was fine.

Sometimes I don't want to cook, and feel I'll want a takeout but then when I do, it just doesn't taste right. Maybe my body isn't taking to it. I really don't know how people order takeaway every few days without feeling sick.

Apart from buying alternatives for days I don't want to cook, eg oven food or dinners that can be made really quickly . Is there anything else you suggest for when I feel I may want one? It often just feels like a waste of money after and I then feel I'd have been better off cooking.

Do those here who actively avoid takeaways always have a homemade meal ready or what do you do?

Could you get some ready meals in?

Is it the food is too greasy etc or food guilt from ordering it?

curlii103 · 18/12/2021 21:37

I dont like take away either. I just eat easy things if i dont want to cook....or a tub of ben and jerrys

CouldIhaveaword · 18/12/2021 21:38

I agree. I sometimes feel like one when I'm starving and tired, but always regret ordering it after a few bites. Even food that tastes quite good in the restaurant is horrible as a home delivery.

Changechangychange · 18/12/2021 21:39

Surely it depends on what you order? A sushi platter is going to be very different from a munchie box Grin

I do agree the portions are usually too big, we normally order three mains for two of us for two meals.

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 18/12/2021 21:40

No not at all lol
But feel bloated afterwards sometimes depending on the place

JustLyra · 18/12/2021 21:40

No, I don't have that.

One of my friends does and she has batch cooked a few things - curries, sweet and sour and her favourites - so that she can just heat them when she's in a non cooking mood.

I don't actively avoid takeaways because there none around here so no need. Yes, meals are home made. Mostly by my husband.

Emerald5hamrock · 18/12/2021 21:40

Yes they're always a disappointment I don't like foods with grease or meat or quashed in a tray.

I'm not a vegetarian I like eating out in a restaurant or cafe.

Holidaytan · 18/12/2021 21:42

I only have them a few times a year (4/5) and they’re rarely very nice. They are often tasteless, claggy, stodgy……… If I’m hungry abd don’t want to cook I’ll have cheese and apple, hummus and crackers, big bag of crisps, bowl of cereal………

TinySaltLick · 18/12/2021 21:42

I think it depends on where you live as to whether you have a wide array of amazing, healthy, fresh, restaurant quality options to choose from - or if you are limited to basic options e.g. The local Chinese which sells the same dishes which were on offer 30 years ago and keeps the business afloat with pork balls and sweet chilli sauce

Quirkyme · 18/12/2021 21:42

Agree, they really arent all that. I love some takeaway flavours but its all so greasy or rich i always feel sick afterwards.

If i cant be bothered i have beans on toast or ceral or sandwich or ready meal/leftovers. Jacket potato if i have time but just cant be arsed. Something thats less effort than thinking or odering food.

nosyupnorth · 18/12/2021 21:45

oooooh look at you, so special and superior to us greasy gross takeaway eaters

eat your damn salad, they don't take any cooking so I don't know why you think anyone would believe you playing dumb so you can humblebrag to the internet

Merrymerry2 · 18/12/2021 21:46

Quality of takeaway is always disappointing and I'd include nandos in that. We freeze servings of dishes we've cooked so there's always a few one person options. Nothing glamour but always tasty and best of all we know the ingredients!

Oh wow. Really bitter people here. You seem really angry.

I was 🙄 at your title but I know what you mean. Take aways are not light and rely on oil and salt, more oil and salt than you probably use at home.
I make a quick daal, lentils, squeeze of lemon spoon of peanut butter, spoon of sugar + cumin, chilli, asafoetida. It takes 20 mins and it’s delicious.
Even quicker if you have a cooked potato in the fridge or leave it out is chaat

LaurieFairyCake · 18/12/2021 21:48

We eat take away at least twice a week

Most of the time it's good - very occasionally I'm miffed as it's not nice

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 18/12/2021 21:49

You can't group all takeaways together. Some are bad, some are amazing, and some are inbetween. Stick with the good ones only

Mum2jenny · 18/12/2021 21:49

I can get really good takeaways here, and I can order a different one every night for several weeks. But I try really hard not to order them.
However I guess it does depend where you live. I can walk to at least 3 takeaways in less than 5 minutes and they are all different and ok, not excellent, but reasonable food and price is ok.

WinterOfOurDiscoTent · 18/12/2021 21:49

We had a Chinese tonight as a treat, DH enjoyed his but I found mine very stodgy and was disappointed. Wish I hadn't bothered tbh.

Usually, I like a grilled chicken or chicken and lamb kebab with chilli sauce and salad, kinda healthy but lazy!

User00000000 · 18/12/2021 21:50

I do eat them occasionally and like the idea, but always feel disappointed and a bit sick afterwards. I think they are often a bit too fatty?

My go to is pizza, and I make sure not to eat too much as portion sizes are usually ridiculous.

WhoKnowsProbsNotMe · 18/12/2021 21:51

Don’t feel gross as such but do feel the food coma …I don’t order takeaway that often, however, I do envy your dislike of them. It’s like people who don’t like chocolate why did none of the dislikes ever hit me. The only thing I can’t stomach is mushrooms (but I can still happily pick them out a meal)….😂

ParkheadParadise · 18/12/2021 21:53

No
I get Christmas Cards from several local takeaways.
We love a takeaway in our house
Indian, Chinese, Pizza, Chippy, local pub.
Best of all a drive-through McDonald's 😄😄😄😄
We also eat out regularly.

Slabadabbadooby · 18/12/2021 21:55

Depends on the takeaway. I don't really understand the idea that takeaway = unhealthy. It depends on what you order/what ingredients have been used.

nosyupnorth · 18/12/2021 21:57

Oh wow. Really bitter people here. You seem really angry.

Says the person who is writing off the entire concept of cooked food deliveries as univerally repulsive and says that other people eating them makes you feel sick.

If you want to post food shaming and bragging about your diet, then just do it, but the ditzy "ooooh somebody tell me what other foods exist without takeaways since i'm too delicate to eat them" act is just embarrasing to read
