Do you find takeaways gross?

Evening

Do you find takeaways gross, and avoid them at all costs?
I generally don't order takeout, only from time to time. Maybe it's just me, but sometimes I start eating them, and I honestly can just not finish it?! And feel kinda gross after or repulsed by the food tbh.

I generally try to go for lighter, healthier takeaways, so non-greasy foods, maybe Wagamama's but I was recently put off this too. Another time I had a Nando's wrap and coleslaw without chips and that was fine.

Sometimes I don't want to cook, and feel I'll want a takeout but then when I do, it just doesn't taste right. Maybe my body isn't taking to it. I really don't know how people order takeaway every few days without feeling sick.

Apart from buying alternatives for days I don't want to cook, eg oven food or dinners that can be made really quickly . Is there anything else you suggest for when I feel I may want one? It often just feels like a waste of money after and I then feel I'd have been better off cooking.

Do those here who actively avoid takeaways always have a homemade meal ready or what do you do?

@WhatScratch

I just lick a chip and I’m full.

Greedy cow.

TractorAndHeadphones · 19/12/2021 00:28

@Quirkyme

There isn't really a need for the comments taking the piss on here. Being told I'm foodshaming and all other sorts is crap. If you choose to eat a takeaway every few days and enjoy it - cool, as some here said they do without the added BS.

"I lick a chip and I'm full" "hope it's not rank" yada yada.

And the bitter angry comment with so much anger. It's ridiculous.

The vultures are circling OP. Honestly there are way more frivolous threads. If it doesn't apply don't read it, what's the point of coming on here to bash the OP? People probably insecure about their own eating habits projecting Grin
Talipesmum · 19/12/2021 00:32

@RobinPenguins

Wrong. . Chinese/Indian or a fry-up are standard options and most places have at least one of these. In many they are the only options. I thought the same as you when I used to live in central London. And then I moved to the semi-rural North West.

I’ve never lived in central London in my life. I’ve just opened Deliveroo, it’s after midnight and there are 35 options still available.

If OP lives somewhere the only options are an Indian and a Chinese then I’m not quite sure what they’re basing the “all takeaways are rank” assertion on when they clearly have extremely limited takeaway options available to them. A more accurate statement (if this wasn’t in fact all just a massive humblebrag about their superior, clean living palate) would be “the takeaways in my village are shit”.

35!? I’m in a pretty big town 30 mins on the train outside central London, and there are only 6 places available on my deliveroo right now, and they are a fried chicken shop, three kebab places and two pizza places. Oh, and a Late Night Booze delivery place. I think you must have a lot of options near you!
PickAChew · 19/12/2021 00:33

For £35 I'd want someone to plate up and eat a vegan burger for me. Save me the wind.

NMC2022 · 19/12/2021 00:35

I usually get a burger and sweet potato fries from my fave takeaway. Costs me about £12 with delivery and is decent ingredients (burger made from local beef etc)
Maybe 1-2 times a month

Rollmopsrule · 19/12/2021 00:35

I don't know Op. Your post does seem a bit goady and no real point to it.

BoudecaBains · 19/12/2021 00:43

Deliveroo will bring scran from just about every restaurant with in a 5/7 mile radius. Is that a take-a-way ?.

SproutsAndCheese · 19/12/2021 00:44

Think it massively depends on area, where I live now there's a chippie and an Indian both are woeful, the Indian is very oily and I never have them anymore, I'd prefer just a freezer pizza.
When I lived nearer a city I happily ate it once a week, there was an amazing Lebanese takeaway, oh how I miss that! the Indian was great, Thai options etc all quite light, not just bland and swimming in grease.

Scroll right on by then. It's not hard.

If you feel goaded that's on you. A number of people have said that they gladly enjoy takeaway, often or less often with no issues, and went about their business . I'm allowed to have my feelings about it without it being called food-shaming. What is the world coming to?

Full on bullies here. Sorry but if people have issues with how they feel about eating takeaways or "licking a chip" or other related issues, therapy exists with that.

What a bloody ridiculous bunch of people that come on here sometimes.

We don't get Deliveroo - it stops a few streets away, gah! But there are occasional local takeaway vans on a rota. Otherwise it's Dominos or something very greasy and fried.

Bullies is a bit harsh. People are just taking the piss, no need to take it so seriously.

Possibly.

However, comments such as "food shaming" isn't. Just a cop out for people that may eat shit to continue eating it. Cant say anything without it "shaming" when really it's not shaming anyone at all.

That term is one the most ridiculous things I've seen on here. But yet when people make fun of 'eating salads' , that's not food shaming is it? Seems it only goes one way right?

hereswhatIthink · 19/12/2021 01:06

The only takeaway which works for me is traditional fish and chips.

userxx · 19/12/2021 01:12

@Quirkyme You sound quite judgemental, so what if people eat "shit" and enjoy it, you don't so stick with a salad or whatever you like. I don't think anyone actually gives a fuck either way. Sometimes i eat less healthy foods, others times I crave salad 🤷‍♂️

Yep judgemental I am then, just like all the others on here making snarky comments were too. I am more convinced from some of the comments from some people that that is just what they do - at this point I don't care. I don't mean this towards you but seriously some comments haven't been "just taking the piss". Goodnight.

We live in a village now with only a typical British style Cantonese and British style Bangladeshi/Indian type takeaway and a pizza place and I know what you mean OP. I always feel a bit disappointed and sometimes ill. But when we lived in a city and could get Lebanese, Japanese, Keralan etc I loved a takeaway!

Emerald5hamrock · 19/12/2021 01:25

But yet when people make fun of 'eating salads' , that's not food shaming is it? Seems it only goes one way right? Yep, double standard mumsnet when it comes to food.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 19/12/2021 08:00

I live all the suggestions of nice Vietnamese or Japanese or African jalof Grin

So, where I live, it’s literally just Curry (the type with 1 inch of oil listing on the top of even the veg dishes), fish and chips (not good fish and chips but the kind where it’s mainly soggy batter) and Chinese (ok-ish but still very greasy, any “veg” you order is from a tin), and Dominos

I’m sure it’s similar for many others

But yes, in London or bigger cities/smart towns you obviously could just get a sashimi and salad…. Now that would be nice!

onedayoranother · 19/12/2021 08:31

It's generally not as good as eating out but I love a takeaway. Once you find a good one that is. I tried a new pizza place and it arrived late and stone cold, so not only were we kept waiting, we then had to wait again to heat it all up.

Festivemoose · 19/12/2021 08:36

“However, comments such as "food shaming" isn't. Just a cop out for people that may eat shit to continue eating it”

So the previous poster was right, you are food shaming.

icedcoffees · 19/12/2021 08:44

It seems to me like you're happy to dish (ha) it out but you're not happy to take it.

You were quite happy to come on here and tell people who like takeaways that they "eat shit" and that you can't believe they can eat food like that without feeling sick, but for some reason it's not okay when it goes the other way and people pick at what you prefer. Hmm

Toastmost · 19/12/2021 08:48

I suppose people don't see the point of the thread beyond declaring how greasy and gross food you are under no obligation to eat is. The question what do you eat if you don't want to cook but don't want a takeaway is surely an easy one. You make something very quick, or batch cook and freeze stuff, or have some ready meals in. You could have asked that I suppose without making sure to outline how superior you are (I don't have takeaways as there's no nice vegan options here, so I'm not feeling triggered or whatever).

justasking111 · 19/12/2021 08:51

DS at university has a fantastic array of takeaway food there's an amazing Sushi bar in his road, uber delivery very fast. In rural Wales we don't bother with delivery 45 minutes upwards here for a delivery, jealous of son sometimes 😅

WhatScratch · 19/12/2021 08:54

I’m sorry if I upset you or made you feel ‘got at.’

If takeaway makes you feel ‘gross after’ or you’re ‘repulsed by the food’ then find something that you do enjoy and buy that instead. M&S microwaveable ready meals or a pack of their ready to eat flavoured chicken breast pieces with one of their boxed salads and fresh bread or a ready to cook stir fry veg pack, noodles, protein and a sauce that can be cooked in minutes in one pan.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 19/12/2021 08:54

There’s only one decent takeaway here, a fabulous new Indian. I ordered Pizza Hut Friday night after I got in pissed and ravenous …. it was rank.

We’ve started buying Charlie Bigham meals for the nights we fancy a takeaway. Quick and easy and tastier.
