Can’t shake the feeling that something is weird/wrong?

Since the pandemic started really..it’s all seemed strange, some points I’ve convinced myself things are normal, but it’s there deep down bugging me. I just find it all so odd, the pushing of vaccines on young people for incentives, no real discussion being allowed apart from what is presented to us. Is this normal?! Or is it me that’s not 🤷🏻‍♀️Does anyone else feel like this?

@DameSlapsSlap

It's just a shitty virus trying to kill us all

But most people survive it.

I'm not most people. I'd like to see my kids grow up, if that's ok with you.
x2boys · 02/08/2021 17:13

Well of course it feels odd, we have all spent the best part of two years in a, pandemic in and out of lockdown, strange times etc, but thats to be expected 🤷‍♀️
My son currently has covid, he had a couple of days of feeling rough and now hes pretty much back to normal, my dh and myself are both fully vaccinated and so far have tested negative im hoping this is because of yhe vaccine
But im not arrogant enough to think just because we havent (so far) been badly affected by covid, others havent been so lucky.

3luckystars · 02/08/2021 17:16

It does all feel weird and there are a lot of questions that we don’t have the answer to. The vaccine seems to be the only way out and that’s why most people are taking it.

ToykotoLosAngeles · 02/08/2021 17:17

I have a friend who is a year into long Covid and I really don't want that, thanks. She's unable to work. But she survived and it's in the 99% so guess she doesn't count. Hmm

Earthling2000 · 02/08/2021 17:19

I’m over 60 and this is the weirdest time I’ve lived through. There has had to be so much trial and error, learning through experience, changing rules and restrictions as things were learned.

Covid especially the Delta variant is hugely infectious, while it thankfully doesn’t kill many younger people it still carries a very big risk of debilitating chronic illness in the form of long covid. This doesn’t appear to be dependent on how mildly or severely people have had covid. It’s something you really don’t want to risk if there’s a choice. Younger people often feel invincible, there’s been many conspiracy theories putting them off getting the vaccine hence the incentives/bribes to get more people through the doors.

The health system can’t handle loads of covid admissions. It screws everything up - diagnosis, treatment of other illnesses, routine checks, tests and surgery. There were no ICU beds in the North East last week and my friend was back to intubating people sent up from A&E. They were in the main mid 40s and under and unvaccinated (or partially vaccinated) for various reasons. We need people to get this vaccine.

MadeOfStarStuff · 02/08/2021 17:19

Of course it’s odd, it’s a global pandemic, we haven’t seen anything like it for many decades

But YABVVU for believing conspiracy theory bullshit

Pedalpushers · 02/08/2021 17:21

I hate the 99% statistic. That means 1 in every 100 people DIE. That's fine though? Trying to stop that is disproportionate?

icedcoffees · 02/08/2021 17:25

Of course it's weird.

It's a totally new experience for everyone. Very, very few people alive today have ever experienced a global pandemic before - it would be weird if it didn't feel weird.

mathanxiety · 02/08/2021 17:26

Applauding @GetTaeFuck.

Nail on the head.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 02/08/2021 17:26

It’s a pandemic. Yes it’s strange.

It’s laughable to think that anything else is going on. Like we’re being controlled by 5g or something. Get real!

onelittlefrog · 02/08/2021 17:26

I'm not sure quite what you mean, OP. What do you think is weird/ wrong? Are you talking about conspiracies?

Of coursethings are not quite right - we're in a global pandemic so it's very strange times for everyone. It doesn't mean there is something sinister going on. It's a global crisis.

What do you mean when you say "no real discussion allowed"? That doesn't seem quite accurate - I feel like there has been little but discussion around Covid for the past 18 months and I don't think people are being censored.

If you are feeling confused or unsettled I recommend talking to a counsellor about your anxiety. It's a weird old time. Good luck OP.

TheTallOakTrees · 02/08/2021 17:27

@Hueylewisandtheviews

Why is it that any conspiracy type possibilities 'something is weird/odd' and your "the pushing of vaccines on young people" and the poster is completely new or name changed then I assume there is an agenda - so are you anti-vaxx brigade or one of the conspiracy theorists one that float around changing their name and then spread rubbish or try to make the ones that are very anxious anyway join your way of thinking?

Hmm they keep on coming out of the woodwork

rc22 · 02/08/2021 17:27

It's a global pandemic. Of course it feels weird. I don't think things will ever seem the same again. We'll have been changed by this experience in the same way that society is changed by big events - pandemics, wars etc. It's just the way history happens and can be very unsettling even if it's not necessarily sinister as such.

TheTallOakTrees · 02/08/2021 17:28

Conspiracy theorists and anti vax - the dopey little soundbites give it away together with the name changing or brand new poster Grin

'no real discussion' I mean is the OP mad since covid has dominated discussions since it started

WhatsNext2021 · 02/08/2021 17:29

We'd have done exactly the same thing with the 1918 flu pandemic had we had the technology to make a vaccine as quick as we have with covid.

Humdrumdumdumdum · 02/08/2021 17:30

So when the first lockdown happened the were very few cars on the road.

I live quite near a hospital and heard many sirens which gave a sense of fear about what was happening.

Found out recently that ambulance drivers were told to put their sirens on when normally they would just have blue light flashing and sirens only when stuck in traffic but there was no traffic so completely unnecessary to have the sirens on.

I didn’t question it at the time and feel a right mug now!

Is that the kind of thing you mean? The manipulation?

UK is the most fearful population in the world towards the virus

The sage committee has more behavioural scientists than virologists

SmilingFrog · 02/08/2021 17:31

I've had these weird feelings too over the last year or so. Not usually one for conspiracies or the like. What got me thinking is how deaths are often reported as 'died within 30 days of a positive test', or along those lines. I'm not disputing that many, many people have died - and their families and friends have been devastated as a result. However, I am increasingly wary of the statistics and how they are measured/gathered.

GetTaeFuck · 02/08/2021 17:32

@mathanxiety ~bows~

Lovemusic33 · 02/08/2021 17:33

Didn’t they once talk about a incentive to get pregnant women to stop smoking during their pregnancy? Not sure if anything ever came of it, so I’m not shocked that they are talking about offering one to get people to take up the vaccine.

GetTaeFuck · 02/08/2021 17:34

And yet, most virologists welcome a stricter approach.

But you don’t want to hear about that..

Jaxhog · 02/08/2021 17:35

@Zeev

You mean something is wrong BESIDES about 5 million dead from a global pandemic? Confused
My thought too. Most of us haven't lived through a Pandemic before so have no idea how it should feel. Make no mistake, the world has changed.
TheTallOakTrees · 02/08/2021 17:35

@whistlers

Bill Gates wants to chip everyone so he can stalk their weekly shop at Lidl
I'm a bit disappointed with the chip in me my reception for 4G isn't that great - when do I get the 5G upgrade? Can i get a refund?
FullMoonInsomnia · 02/08/2021 17:36

I feel the same.

TheTallOakTrees · 02/08/2021 17:38

@changingstages

fecking hell what a load of tin-hatted eejits are rocking around MN at the moment. And the world. Yeah, there's definitely something weird, it's called a pandemic, you absolute loons.
I like this response the best, it's straight to the point. Accurate too.
GetTaeFuck · 02/08/2021 17:38

I’d wager most virologists and epidemiologists are banging their fucking heads against their desks wondering what the fucking point of their entire lives have been when they see threads like this.
