Can’t shake the feeling that something is weird/wrong?

Since the pandemic started really..it’s all seemed strange, some points I’ve convinced myself things are normal, but it’s there deep down bugging me. I just find it all so odd, the pushing of vaccines on young people for incentives, no real discussion being allowed apart from what is presented to us. Is this normal?! Or is it me that’s not 🤷🏻‍♀️Does anyone else feel like this?

Kate Shemirani is scum and so is anyone who promotes her.

Geamhradh · 05/08/2021 10:28

@Milkandhoney888

I absolutely agree somethings a bit off about it all. Unless you dig deeper you'll only find one media censored view. Anyone who has tried to speak out has been shut down or struck off. The pushing of vaccinations onto the younger generation who through the whole pandemic have not had to wear mask, and get very mild symptoms i find very strange. Oh and I'm in the "vulnerable" catogary and am exempt from mask wearing. Work with young children with no social distancing and seem to be doing ok.
You're going to have to give us some names of people who have been struck off. And who has been gagged/censured? And if they've been gagged/censured, how do you know?
foxandbee · 05/08/2021 10:47

I don't understand the rhetoric around opposing views being "shut down". There are many dissenting voices with a high profile. Twitter is awash with them. There is a news channel where they freely air their views. There is are radio stations which give them platform. There have been demos aplenty where people have strutted around on stage giving us the benefit of their wisdom.

EmmaOvary · 05/08/2021 13:17

The whole 'whistleblowers being gagged' narrative just consolidates the conspiracy theory narrative. Never mind that it's not true. If people are being struck off, there is a good reason for that. See: Shemirani.

How do you know there’s a good reason?
EmmaOvary · 05/08/2021 13:22

@FullMoonInsomnia because I have heard of nobody in this category who is credible.

EmmaOvary · 05/08/2021 13:41

@Mummyford quite.

EmmaOvary · 05/08/2021 13:43

Deafening silence here, no?

Hekatestorch · 05/08/2021 13:44

For me it's because, not one of these people, ever have a clear record up until they were struck off. There's usually a long trail of things they have done. All of which are ridiculous or dangerous or both.

I can't help wonder if some poster (not all) just come on these threads to say something outrageous to see if they can cause an issue. Because in my head, I can't imagine posting something with such confidence, that I hadn't even done basic research on. Especially when I know that thing could spread fear or cause someone with anxiety to start feeling worse.

I have admitted on many threads, that I don't always understand alot of the science. My friends husband is a virologist and he, very kindly with no condescension will explain things to me if I ask. More than once sometimes, he even explained why the vaccine came about so quick and put my kind at rest.

People on MN have done the same for me or pointed me in the direction of some decent information.

No one has ever been rude because I have questioned something. But then I don't post a load of rubbish and pretend it's fact.

Like the poster talking about the church of Satan and their connections to the process church and organised crime. Non of its true, even though they claimed it was fact and not debatable, and then they disappear.

Do people really just assume that something true, because they saw one video or one article saying it is.

On this thread a few of the wold claims have even been covid related. So not sure, you can blame the pandemic, directly.

@FullMoonInsomnia have a look at this article which links to a 49 page document detailing why she was struck off.

www.nursingtimes.net/news/professional-regulation/covid-denier-and-anti-vaxxer-nurse-struck-off-register-by-nmc-04-06-2021/

Hekatestorch · 05/08/2021 15:44

Actually, browsing MN I am coming across quite a few 'I am not usually into conspiracy theories but' followed, by incorrect information with bits of truth peppered in from some body they know, unnamed, who is senior in whatever they are taking about.

So are people just making this up, or do people in senior jobs often not know what they are talking about and can't keep their traps shut. Or is it just a line people say, to make it sound like they are special and have secret inside information.

I remember at the beginning of the first lock down, thousands of peoples cousins/aunt/brother had a mate who was in the Army. And they told them the army was moving out onto the streets, within the next few minutes to implement martial law. Oddly never happened either.

I don't know if I am noticing more or that covid has brought more people into the relm of conspiracy theories. Maybe its completely unconnected.

Maybe you know they've been at work?
Or they get so fed up of being shouted down as stupid/thick/gullible that there is just no point in any two way discussion on here? Same thing happened with discussions about Brexit.

Hmm so no can say anything when people post absolute nonsense and call it facts?

EmmaOvary · 05/08/2021 19:08

Unless I've missed something, nobody has been shouted down, and nobody has been called thick or gullible. People have simply challenged what has been offered up as 'proof', which unless I'm mistaken, is the nature of a discussion.

Staffy1 · 05/08/2021 19:44

I think someone did actually call those of us who don’t think there is some sort of conspiracy going on behind the scenes naive.

Recessed · 05/08/2021 20:04

I know what you mean, feels like the response is disproportionate to the threat… or something.

I definitely think this is true. I'm not a conspiracy theorist and I'm vaccinated/follow the guidelines for the most part, but the extreme lengths governments have gone too seems utterly bizarre to me and I can't fathom what they're thinking. It doesn't make any sense.

The death rates for the last quarter of 2019 are actually higher than the last quarter of 2020 where I live. The crazy never ending lockdowns were such a disproportionate response and caused so much collateral damage it hardly seemed worth it on a population level. Obviously if you're concerned about a family member with an underlying health condition your view will be different but I'm speaking from a societal point of view. I imagine we will look back in years to come and think what on earth was the over reaction for.

Gullible and naive are 2 slightly different things.

And to be honest, so far no one has been able to give any credible reason, evidence or even a plausible theory.

I have asked through out the thread for people to show me their sources and people either don't, or their sources are sketchy at best.

What else would you call it if people are stating 'facts' that they have heard, that turn out to have no factual basis? And yet they still believe them.

As it stand, it appears people feel they should be able to post whatever information they want claim its absolutely true and no one is allowed to challenge them.

If I say, that as of tomorrow the UK will be plunged into darkness for 6 months tomorrow because I know who a woman who believe she is a reincarnation of the one of Oracales of Delphi. And David is Icke says its true. What would you think?

And I do actually know some one who does believe that she an oracle of delphi, and she isn't the only person I have met who believes they are.

Questioning or asking for evidence is not shouting down.

Staffy1 · 06/08/2021 00:25

@Hekatestorch, yes I agree there haven’t been any plausible theories, which is why I take exception to being called naive to not believe any of the conspiracy theories.

LaraDecouvrie · 06/08/2021 00:30

Every time I scan in or give my details in a cafe / restaurant etc I think how quick we are to give the government every detail of our whereabouts.

Then I remember that my phone already gives that information away...

Do you think Governments have to tell their populations every single fact? I don't believe they have, but it hasn't been nefarious on their part - but more to avoid mass panic. In this sense, then, the response would be more than proportionate and makes more sense.

And "where I live" there have been 11 deaths from Covid since March 2020. But I'd have to pretty dumb to think that makes Covid a conspiracy theory or not as serious as I'm being told Especially looking at the figures from the ONS showing 2020 as a whole, and taking all factors into account, registered the highest number of deaths in England and Wales for over a hundred years.
