Neighbours dog weeing on fence

Hi all! Who is BU, me or my husband!

We moved into our new home in October.

Brick wall on right and end of the garden, shared wooden fence with concrete posts with neighbours.

The garden was newly turfed but I noticed a dead patch next to the fence. The developers came round for another issue, I mentioned the dead grass, and he showed me a stain on the fence where he said there's an animal weeing - it must be next door's dog.

I didn't like the turf right up against the fence anyway, so the developers dug in a small border for us.

I sent a picture to next door, who are a really lovely young couple in their 20s, and asked could they try to keep the dog from weeing on the fence, I said we'd had a border put in as he'd killed the grass, but that it wasn't a massive issue. They were really apologetic and said they'd try to stop him'

The dog is still peeing there, worse than ever. I won't be able to plant anything along that border!

My hubby is getting really cross about it, I don't want to fall out with my neighbours as it's a new estate and community so important! Hubby is telling me to go and speak to them or he will, and he won't be as nice about it as I am 🥺

How do I deal with this

@binkyblinky Hello. I am a dog-owner and gardener myself. I can understand that it will be difficult for your neighbours to prevent their dog seeing in a favourite spot as the fence will be very well scented by now, and they would have to supervise him every moment he's in the garden.
I think the best bet for you is to minimise the ingress into your garden. You may be able to:
Block the gap in the fence where wee is coming through
Or
Put up a water-proof barrier along the lower part of the fence, and buried a few inches into the soil - at a height that hopefully stops wee coming through, but that will become hidden by your border planting. Depending on whose fence it is, you may need to ask your neighbours first, but I don't imagine they would mind if they are aware there's an issue?

I would find a way around it, but not fall out with your neighbours or DH - it's just unfortunate.

Please don't let rude posters here upset you.

YANBU. Unless dog really has to pee, shouldn't be allowed to wee anywhere. Owners should pull them on the leash and keep them short in the neighbourhood and let them do their needs in designated areas where you can walk your dogs etc. It pisses me off, same with outdoor cats pooping in other people's gardens. My cats don't go outside, they use litter box and I don't feel like I should be OK with some sh*t in my garden.

Grin too funny OP

The dog is pissing in its own bloody garden! Christ!
Lolwhat · 02/04/2021 22:28

YABVU, you can’t ask someone to make their dog pee somewhere else in their own garden🤣

Orchidflower1 · 02/04/2021 22:31

@binkyblinky I’m sorry you’re feeling upset but you asked for opinions and you have it.

The vast majority of MN have said you are wrong to moan. Obviously there are other things going on which you probably haven’t mentioned.

Let it go- this does not need to be a big thing. These people could become life long friends or you could create neighbours from hell.

Gravel and Hardy shrubs along the border- jobs a good un. Or have a series of stones laid.

TedMullins · 02/04/2021 22:31

Judging by the OP’s latest updates I think the real problem here is the bullying husband, not the weeing dog. Being reduced to tears over this issue is disproportionate - OP, I hope you have some support IRL, you don’t have to accept your husband’s behaviour.

Don’t be obtuse- dogs weeing in their OWN garden is totally different to a cat pooing in someone else’s.
TaraR2020 · 02/04/2021 22:37

@binkyblinky just seen your later posts and you absolutely did not deserve such nastiness. 'Dont let the b*** grind you down' and all that, focus on the more positive posts and I really hope you're feeling better in the morning Flowers

CandyLeBonBon · 02/04/2021 22:37

Buy the neighbours some dog rocks op. Then have a nice cup of tea and take a deep breath. It's unreasonable to expect neighbours to stop a dog peeing in its own garden.

And I'd turn my attention to my husband's behaviour if he's regularly reducing you to tears because that sounds far more damaging.

Is this...sarcasm?

I don’t think AIBU has ever been a ‘safe space’ to be fair OP

mackleless · 02/04/2021 23:02

Do you have to use the word 'shit?!’

Wait, what?! 😂. Why wouldn’t she @MNWorldisCrazy?!

This thread is gloriously insane

CandyLeBonBon · 02/04/2021 23:06

@MNWorldisCrazy
Are you new to MN??? 😂

FireflyRainbow · 02/04/2021 23:37

YABU the dog is weeing in it's own garden

PanamaPattie · 02/04/2021 23:43

MN is full of vipers and haters. It's not safe anywhere on this site.

Maves · 02/04/2021 23:54

I'd be pissed off too, get some of that anti piss stuff and put it under the gap. Your fence will stink come summer as well.

I'm certainly not! I'm not against swearing (at all!!!!) but "shit" is repulsive

Do you not find the word "shit" a bit repulsive to be used repeatedly & casually in a paragraph? Swearing I can cope with and do it myself but not repeatedly. I despise this growing trend of using shit as a normal word. Would you allow your young child to say it?
vodkaredbullgirl · 03/04/2021 00:10

I put new plants in and my dog keeps peeing on them, so far they are all okay. Even my grass is fine and I have 2 dogs.

Mittens030869 · 03/04/2021 01:02

I can understand why this would annoy you and your DH, but your neighbours aren’t doing anything wrong. Dogs will wee in their garden, and there really isn’t anything they can stop him from doing it wherever they do it.

It would be different if the dog was doing it on your garden or drive.

eaglejulesk · 03/04/2021 01:22

It’s just unacceptable, antisocial behaviour. Your choice of animal shouldn’t inconvenience anyone else, and in this case, that mutt is a problem for you. They should sort it out.

Oh for goodness sake!!!!!

There are some nutty people on MN at the moment, even more than usual. I think some of you need to find a hobby - other than spouting rubbish on online forums.

Sjdmcfeet · 03/04/2021 01:40

Awful that bet it stinks can you not put something down like strong smelling viniger or a household cleaning product that smells really strong and Will put the dog off would drive me mad this

Or tell the neighbours you have seen a rat and will be putting rat poison down , they won't let the dog anywhere near then

Sjdmcfeet · 03/04/2021 01:42

@Maves agree re the smell the smell of dog pics is revolting I wouldn't put up with it it's vile
